Paul was born October 12, 1941, in Moline, the son of Logan W. and Velma R. Turner Rouse. He married Jane A. Heinz, September 30, 1967, in Waterloo, IA.
He was raised in Moline and was a member of the Moline High School class of 1959. He graduated from Bradley University in 1963, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and from the University of Iowa, in 1972, with a Masters of Business Administration. He was a certified “black belt” in Six Sigma.
Paul’s working record spanned 45 years in the agricultural equipment industry. He was employed at International Harvester from 1963 until 1986 in various capacities. He served as president of Williams, White and Co. for a period. He then began his career at CNH Case from 1990 until his retirement in March of 2008. Over the years, Paul donated his time and energy to his church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the YMCA, United Way, Junior Achievement, the Quad Cities Development Group and the Moline Boosters. Paul enjoyed giving back to the community and served many other organizations.
He enjoyed his Sunday morning golf group at Short Hills Country Club, spending time with the coffee group at Happy Joe’s, visitation with many dear friends, and of course, his family, who he loved so much. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and enjoyed going to their events whenever possible. Paul loved the “Cubbies” and longed for that pennant, and so enjoyed watching the games with his Annie dog.
Even as his illness worsened, Paul loved the constant visits from friends, when they would talk and keep the humor flowing. As some of his friends have said, “he was “a good soul”, “quick wit” and “he made each of us want to do better”.
Paul was diagnosed as having ALS / Lou Gehrig’s Disease in August of 2007. Paul and his wife, Jane, established the group “Paul’s Pals” to raise funds to assist in research to find a cure. The walk will go on this fall to continue to focus on finding a cure. He faced this battle as he faced all things in his life, with compassion, resolve and with incredible dignity.
Paul and his family want to extend a special thank you to all those care workers over the past months that have been so helpful in his care, including Trinity Medical Center, Genesis Medical Center, Select Specialty Hospital, Genesis Hospice, the ALS support group and MDA.
