Frances I. Nye, 79, of East Moline, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Aspen Rehab & Health Care, Silvis, IL.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association
The former Frances I. Fleagle was born May 30, 1930, in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of James & Mary Orr Fleagle.
She married Russell L. Nye, June 27, 1957, in Davenport, IA.
Frances had been employed in sales and as a buyer at the former New York Store, Petersens and Glamour Isle.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was an active and competing member of the former Turners club, in Moline.
Survivors include her husband, Russell, daughters and sons in law, Ann & Lynn Hunter-Broughton, Bettendorf, IA, Gayle Derrick, Davenport, IA and Lisa & Mike Miller, Bettendorf, and a son and daughter in law, Jim & Pam Nye, Moline. There are 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.

Clara L. Gatz
January 3, 1920 - December 22, 2009

Clara L. Gatz, 89, of Moline, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where the Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society will recite a Rosary at 2:00 p.m. the. Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made Sacred Heart Church Preserving Our Treasures.
Clara L. was born January 3, 1920 in Moline, IL the daughter of Benjamin & Emma Heimrieck Peel. She married Nelson Gatz February 12, 1942, in Moline, IL. He preceded her in death August 2, 2008.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, the Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society, the Moline Activity Center, and was a former member of the Friends Circle Club, Moline.
Clara loved her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and her 35 years vacationing with her husband and family at their cabin in Battle Lake, MN.
Clara is survived by a daughter and son in law, Kathleen “Kathy” & Gary Hoegner, Moline, sons and daughters in law, Steven & Diane Gatz, St. Charles, IL, and John & Linda Gatz, Ankeny, IA. There are 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Christine, and 12 sisters and brothers.

Leonard W. Ross
July 7, 1936 - December 21, 2009

Leonard W. Ross, 94, of Rock Island, died Monday December 21, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center West, Rock Island.
Per Leonard’s wishes cremation rites are to be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, is assisting the family.
Leonard was born July 5, 1915, in Marathon, IA the son of Robert and Julia (Johnson) Ross. He married Sarah D. Romine July 7, 1936, in Knoxville, IA. She preceded him in death, July 23, 2008.
Leonard was a graduate of Marathon High School and went on to be in one of the first graduating classes from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He owned his own practice in Rock Island retiring in 1998 after 50 years of serving the Quad Cities.
He was a member of the Illinois State House of Representatives from 1960-1962, Illinois State Merit Commission, Illinois State Civil Service Commission, the Rock Island Police and Fire Commission, Rock Island City Council and lifetime member of Illinois State Prairie Chiropractic Association. Leonard also loved taking care of his family and gardening at their home.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Pagel, Oregon, granddaughters, Dawn Ross, Moline, Amy Haff, Moline, and Karla Gallagher, Alaska, grandson, James (Kimberly) Ross, Rock Island, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and sister, Ruth House. He was preceded in death by a son, Creel Ross, his parents and brothers Oscar and Bud Ross.

Michael McGinnis
April 23, 1955 - December 06, 2005
Rock Island, Illinois

Michael was born April 23, 1955 in Rock Island, a son of Richard M. and Eleanor Jean Verschoore McGinnis. He graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College and Eastern Illinois University. He married Linda Biscontine, October 5, 1985 in Davenport. Mike worked for 23 years as a letter carrier for the Rock Island Post Office. He enjoyed sports, especially wrestling and S.E.C. football. Survivors include a son, Kellen McGinnis and a daughter, Ally McGinnis, both of Moline; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan McGinnis, Phoenix, AZ, Lisa and William Berry, Rock Island, Linda and Gary McShane, Higley, AZ, Mary and Doug O’Neill, Milan; brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathleen McGinnis, Moline; and his step-father, Thomas Maloney, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel R. McGinnis.
Memorials may be made to an education fund for his children.
Interment: December 10, 2005 at Calvary cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois

Richard K. LeBow
September 28, 1941 - December 14, 2010
of Rock Island, Illinois

Richard K. LeBow, 69, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday December 14, 2010, at Trinity, Rock Island. In accordance with his wishes, he was an organ donor. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Inurnment will be at a later date in Highland, Kansas. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the South Park Presbyterian Church Food Pantry program. Richard was born September 28, 1941, in Ottumwa, IA, a son of Bernard LeBow and Mildred Elder LeBow. With the passing of his mother at an early age, he was raised in the home of his aunt and uncle, Lawrence and Gussie Utz. He married Emma June Lucas on September 8, 1962, in Highland, KS. His life-long career was working in the financial field. He retired from Family Credit Union, Davenport, in 2003. Richard was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island Moose Lodge No. 190, Quad-city Computer Club, and the Rock Island County Historical Society. He also was a volunteer with Alternatives for Older Adults in the Quad-cities. He enjoyed collecting John Deere toys, coins, attending auctions and flea markets, and feeding the birds. He is fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He especially enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities. Surviving are his wife, Emma June, of Rock Island; daughters (and son-in-law), Susan LeBow, Stevens Point, WI, and Miranda (David) Wells, Rock Island; grandchildren, Emily and Turner Young, Stevens Point, and Meghan and Nathan Wells, Rock Island; sister, Dianne LeBow, San Mateo, CA; and his half brother, Rober t LeBow, Sedalia, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard C. Darland
June 23, 1927 - July 12, 2009
Rock Island, Illinois

Richard C. Darland, 82, of Rock Island IL, formerly of Ottumwa IA, died Sunday July 12, 2009 at Trinity West Hospital in Rock Island. Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave. Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Agency cemetery in Agency, IA. Memorials may be made out to the 15th Avenue Christian Church. Richard Darland was born June 23, 1927 in Ottumwa, IA, a son of Ernest C. and Ruth Adeline (Hart) Darland. He married Dorothy Bailey on August 2, 1947 in Rock Island. In subsequent years, Richard was assistant manager at Singer Sewing Machine Company, in Ottumwa IA, and later went on to own and operate Darland Cleaning Service, Rock Island. He was a member of 15th Avenue Christian Church and an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Shirley (Kevin) Wiklund, Rockford, IL, Kenneth Darland, Rock Island, IL, Dennis Darland, Rock Island, IL; grandchildren Kevin and Andrew Wiklund; step-brother Jim Widger; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by an infant son, Curtis, his parents, a brother, John Canterbury, and sister, Dorothy Sterling.
Interment: 1:00p.m., Wednesday July 15, 2009 at Agency cemetery, Agency, Iowa

Jason Woods

Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Conservation Club. Jason was born July 2, 1976 in Morganton, NC, the son of Bobby Woods and Rhonda Johnston-Wise. He had worked for the Dexton Enterprise in Rock Island for 5 years. He was a member of the Catawba Valley Baptist Church in Morganton, NC Survivors and spouses include mother and step-father, Rhonda and Del Wise, Moline, father and step-mother, Bobby and Kristina Woods, Morganton, NC; sisters, Kimberly Wise, Moline, Kisha and Brandon Spence, Ft. Rucker, AL, Tisha Annis and Jocelyn Woods both of Morganton, NC; grandmother, Goldie Johnston, Piave, MS; step grandfather, Frank Minton, Hickory, NC, step great grandmother, Lavelle Minton, Hickory, NC; uncles, Robert and Shirley Johnston, Marion, NC, Pastor Donald and Sandra Johnston, Piave, MS, Michael and Patricia Woods, Morganton, NC, Walter and Christy Minton, Lincolnton, NC and Wesley Dial, Hickory, NC; aunts, Rebecca Dial, Kellie Dial both of Hickory, NC, Aline and Steve Stares, Ashville, NC; several cousins, nieces and nephews; girl friend Ashley Wheaton, Moline. Jason was preceded by, sister, Amanda Dawn Woods, brother, Steven Ray Woods, grandparents, James and Irene Woods, grandfather, Robert Johnston.

Faith Hope Lawson
April 17, 2009 - April 17, 2009

Faith Hope Lawson was born into the hands of the Lord at 11:00p.m., on Friday, April 17, 2009. She weighed 7 pounds and 10 ounces and had a beautiful little nose and mouth. She looked perfect in every way. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family. Faith will be missed by her parents, Malika (Malone) Lawson and Steve Lawson; brothers, Joshua, Mitchell, Shaun; sister, Destiny; grandparents, Pamela Knight-Baker and Steve Baker, Sharon Brandon and Marty Hayden Lawson Sr.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Faith has joined her brother, Jonathan and cousin, Karly in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Cory J. Van Wolvelaere
September 29, 1955 - December 08, 2008

Cory J. Van Wolvelaere, 53, of Midleton, County of Cork, Ireland, formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Mary Mount Hospice in Cork, Ireland, after a two year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 11, 2008 at John the Baptist Church, Midleton. A Wake will be held at the home of Helen Van Wolvelaere on Wednesday in Midleton. At Cory’s request, he will be cremated and his cremated remaines returned home to the Quad Cities. A local memorial service will be held at a later date. Cory was born on September 29, 1955 in Moline, a son of Donald J. and Barbara Helling Van Wolvelaere. He married Helen Dillion on April 16, 1983 in Adair, Ireland. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1973 and from Northern Illinois University in 1977. Cory was a partner in Accenture, formerly known as Andersen Consulting in the Chicago area, and later relocated to Nice, France to oversee the Western European office. He retired in January 2001, and moved to Midleton, County of Cork, Ireland. Survivors include his wife, Helen; daughters, Aoife and Deirdre Van Wolvelaere, both of Midleton; his mother, Barbara McAtee, Coal Valley; brother and sister-in-law, Tod and Kim Van Wolvelaere, Moline; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Dan Kyle, Coal Valley and special friends, Elizabeth Olive Jeffery, Midleton and Les Corkill, Chesterton, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald in 1980 and his grandparents, John and Agnes Van Wolvelaere and Fredrick and Helen Helling.

Earnestine Hall, 72, of Davenport, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services for Ms. Hall will be 12:00 pm Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pine Hill cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Hospice House. Earnestine was born January 1, 1938 in Harrisburg, IL, the daughter of Joseph Miller and Enner West Miller. She worked at the Red Jacket Pump Company, Davenport as an inspector, retiring in March of 2000 after 32 years of service. Earnestine also worked as a model for the Rose McQueen Modeling Agency. She was a 20 year member of the Rock Island Police Auxiliary. Ms. Hall enjoyed traveling and gardening. Survivors include her daughters, Angela Daily, Phoenix, IL, May Hall, Milan; sisters and brothers, Ann Stitt, Opelika, AL, Leonia Miller, Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Miller, Rock Island, Thornlee Miller, Rock Island, Danny Miller, Rock Island and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Hall was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo Miller, Harlee Miller, Elester Miller, Earl Miller and Milton Miller. Elsie D. Kain, 90, a resident of Bickford Cottage, Moline, formerly of Taylor Ridge, died Tuesday, June 03, 2008 at the cottage. There will be no public services or visitation. Private family inurnment services will be held at Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church. Elsie was born on November 29, 1917 in Silvis, the daughter of Conrad H. and Elsie M. Steckman Schadt. She married Clifford R. Kain on December 20, 1939 in Silvis. Mrs. Kain worked for Mr. Al Klass as a book keeper for many years, retiring in 1984. Elsie memberships include the Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church, the quilting club at the church and the Reynolds American Legion Post No. 1166 Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Clifford; children and their spouse’s, Patti Braden, Rock Island, Gene and Kaye Kain, Milan, Robert and Liz Kain, Herndon, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, plus one great grandchild still on the way; sisters in law, Marge Peters, Helen Gould, Dorothy Schadt and Mary Stewart; along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kain was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and one sister; and a son in law, Richard Braden.

John D. Grindle
November 21, 1928 - March 25, 2007
Riverdale, IA formerly of Rock Island and Geneseo, IL

John was born November 21, 1928 in Centerville, IA, a son of John A. Grindle and Rita Faye Silksnitter Grindle. He married Catherine J. Ziegler on September 11, 1948 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2001. Prior to his retirement, he worked at the Farmall Works of International Harvester for over 37 years. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 1309, the Davenport Moose Club, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. His interests included woodworking and gardening. John is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Karen Grindle, LeMont, IL, David and Denise Grindle, Moline, and Jeffrey and Bonita Grindle, Riverdale; grandchildren, Amy, Lori, Debbie, Violet, Rose and John; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Marie Stevens, Centerville, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson- Lance Lee Grindle, and a sister, Blanche Elaine Thomas.
Memorials may be made to either Riverdale Fire Department or to Genesis Hospice.
Interment: March 28, 2007 at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island, Illinois
