Frank F. Pearce

MARSHALL, Ill. - Frank F. Pearce, 87, of Marshall died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Paris Community Hospital. He was a retired insurance agent. He was born in Darwin Township, Clark County, to Randolph Pearce and Jessie Hanley Pearce. Survivors include his wife, Fern L. Veach Pearce, whom he married Feb. 18, 1940, in Toledo; one son, F. Edward Pearce and his wife, Beverly Pearce of Marshall; three sisters, Martha Staub and Stella Pernau, both of Marshall, and Thelma Ohm of Vincennes, Ind.; four grandchildren, Tammy Fitzpatrick and her husband John Fitzpatrick of West Terre Haute, Ind., Kevin Pearce of Marshall, Jeff Pearce and his wife, Laura Pearce of Marshall and Sara Pearce of Edwardsville; and three great-grandchildren, Blake Fitzpatrick, Bailey Fitzpatrick and Braylon Fitzpatrick, all of West Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by one son, Gene R. Pearce and his wife, Sandy Pearce; three brothers, Lloyd "Doc" Pearce, Wilfred Pearce and Milo Pearce; and one sister, Edna Pearce. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marshall, Marshall Lodge 133 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois; and the Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Ill. He had served as the city treasurer of Marshall for four years, the city clerk of Marshall for eight years and the mayor of Marshall for four years. He had served on the Marshall cemetery Board and the Advisory Council of the Clark County Department of Public Aid. He served on the board of directors of the Pana-Hillsboro Insurance Co. and Rockford Mutual Insurance. He had served on the board of directors and as state president of Mutual Fire Insurance Cos. He was associated with Marshall Mutual Fire Insurance Co. for 45 years and with Frank F. Pearce and Son Insurance for several years. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. CST Thursday in First United Methodist Church of Marshall, with the Rev. John Davis and the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial is in Marshall cemetery. Pall bearers are Jim Coale, Jim Davidson, Lewis Goekler, Dale Husinga, Jack Logan and Larry Woodard; honorary pall bearers are Richard Newlin, Bob Boyer and David Belt Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. CST today with Masonic memorial service at 7:45 p.m., 7 to 8 a.m. CST Thursday in Pearce Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Training Education Fund of the Marshall Ambulance Service or the building fund of First United Methodist Church.

Paul Renfrow

PARIS, Ill. - Paul Renfrow, 86, of Paris died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. He was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Morgantown, Ky., to James Curtis Renfrow and Lutie Embry Renfrow. His wife, Gertie Rose Jane Embry Renfrow, died Nov. 20, 1983. Survivors include seven daughters, Corene Vice, Pauline Miller, Josie B. Renfrow, Rose Baroni, Linda Sue Richey, Brenda Jane Cusick and Wanda Jean Sweet; two sons, Charles Renfrow and Paul Lee Renfrow; two brothers, Starlin Renfrow and Gerald Lee; two sisters, Thurlow Lee and Kathleen Shacklett; 31 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. CST Thursday in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home in Paris. Burial is in Edgar cemetery at Paris. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. CST today.

Robert W. Beltz

CASEY, Ill. - Robert W. Beltz, 87, of Casey, Ill., formerly of Marshall, Ill., and Crown Point, Ind., died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Birchwood Nursing Home in Casey. He was a retired service technician for Sears. He formerly farmed in Clark County, Ill., and worked in steel mills in Gary. He was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Marshall to John Beltz and Ruth Wesnitzer Beltz. He married Mona Vaughn Waldon on March 17, 1943, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall. She preceded him in death in November 1948. Survivors include five sisters, Agnes Staub, Maxine Sweitzer, Norma Macke, Pat Bruner, all of Marshall, and Florence Beltz of Peoria, Ill.; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Rosetta and Robert Gallington of Dennison, Ill., Christina and Richard Glick of Marshall and Geneva and Paul Penman of Biloxi, Miss.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Pauline Beltz, Edna Lowe, Clarene Whitaker, Anne Turner and Betty Morrow; and one brother, Joe Beltz. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Crown Point. He served in the military police in the Army from 1942 to 1946 and was a member of the American Legion in Terre Haute. He was a member of the Sears Retirement Club. He had served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. An avid golfer, he had the accomplishment of making two holes-in-one. A lover of flowers, he was an avid gardener. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall with the Rev. Jeff Grant officiating a Mass of Christian burial. Burial is in Dunlap cemetery, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975 and American Legion Clark County Post 90. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and 7 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in Pearce Funeral Home.

Dr. William J. Ball Jr.

PARIS, Ill. - Dr. William J. Ball Jr., 76, of Paris, Ill., died at 11:28 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, in his home. He was an optometrist who retired in 1994 after 33 years with Chittick Optical. He was born June 4, 1927, in Hudson County, N.J., to William J. Bell and Marie Brennan Bell. Survivors include his wife, June Rose Lee Ball, whom he married April 28, 1951; two sons, Terry Ball and Maury Ball, both of Atlanta; two daughters, Rebecca Ball of Newark, Ohio, and Sarah Shaw of Herrin, Ill, ; one sister, Olive Kavanah of Tampa, Fla.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He attended Manhattan College until service with the Army's 1541st Engineer Base Survey Company during the occupation of Okinawa. He graduated in 1951 from Chicago College of Optometry. He was a member of Phi Theta Epsilon, American Optometric Association, Illinois Optometric Association, Kiwanis and Lions clubs, Illinois and Indiana high school athletic associations, and a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 860. He also served two terms on the District 95 School Board. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris with the Rev. William Overmann officiating a Mass of Christian burial. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, Hospice of Dynamic Homecare or to a charity of choice.

Howard Kenneth Allen

OBLONG, Ill. - Howard Kenneth Allen, 82, of Oblong died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center in Robinson He was born March 12, 1921, in Annapolis, Mo., to Perry P. Allen and Eva Brewer Allen. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Sandiford Allen, whom he married Oct. 24, 1942; two sons, Larry Allen and wife, Carol, and Mark Allen and wife, Peg; one daughter, Linda Stinebaker and husband, Jim; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Allen and two sisters, Eula Strange and Viola Bramble. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Edgar Allen, Otis Allen and Everett Allen. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Oblong. Burial is in Oblong cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the church. Crain Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Richard J. 'Dick' Beck

MARSHALL, Ill. - Richard J. "Dick" Beck, 64, of Marshall and formerly of West Terre Haute, Ind., died at 11:29 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Union Hospital. He retired from the Teamsters Union after 30 years of service. He was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Paris to Millard F. Beck and Clara J. Norris Beck. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Wanda Robinson Beck, whom he married Oct. 18, 1957; two daughters, Cheryl A. Beck and companion, Bob Long, and Cindy J. Beck-Kieft and husband, Dan, all of Terre Haute; two brothers, William F. Beck and wife, Phyllis, of St. Cloud, Fla. and Dale A. Beck and wife, Charlotte, of West Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Stacy McCalister and husband, Johnny, Richard E. Rogers and wife, Cherrie, Nicole J. Kelley, Jay E. Rogers, Coty L. Smith and Travis E. Long; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Beck; and one grandson, Wesley R. Smith. He had served with the Army National Guard. He was a member of River of Life Church in West Terre Haute for 12 years, American Legion Krietenstein Post 104 and an associate member of the Marine Corps League in Terre Haute. Services are 7 p.m. Wednesday in River of Life Church with the Rev. Bob Maskell officiating. Cremation is scheduled. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services Wednesday in the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to River of Life Church, 215 Paris Ave., West Terre Haute, IN 47885. Envelopes also will be available in the church. Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Robert L. Schwartz

MARSHALL, Ill. - Robert L. Schwartz, 81, of Marshall died at 10:42 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Union Hospital. He was a retired farmer. He was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Morgan to Frank F. Schwartz and Sarah Elizabeth Ashmore Schwartz. Survivors include his wife, Reba Hutchings Schwartz, whom he married July 4, 1942; one daughter, Diane Lackey and husband, Gary, of Marshall; one son, R. Dennis Schwartz and wife, Kathy, of Whitehouse, Ohio; one sister, Virginia Schlager of Quincy; two grandsons, Todd Lackey and wife, Amy, of Allen, Texas, and Jon Lackey of Plano, Texas; two granddaughters, Megan Schwartz of Lake Zurich and Allyson Schwartz of Whitehouse, Ohio; one great-granddaughter, Amber Grace Lackey of Allen; one sister-in-law, Norma Milton and husband, Joe, of Marshall; and four nephews. He was a member of First Christian Church in Marshall, former member and deacon of Five Points Christian Church, Greenmoss cemetery Board, American Legion Clark County Post 90 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975. He was a former board member of the Farm Service Co., Clarksville Co-operative Telephone Co. and former road commissioner of Dolson Township. He loved agriculture, animals and visiting with friends. He was an Army veteran who served in the South Pacific during World War II. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with John Cutshall officiating. Burial is in Marshall cemetery with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975 and American Legion Clark County Post 90. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 7 to 8 a.m. Thursday in Pearce Funeral Home and one hour prior to services in church. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenmoss cemetery Association.

Walter Al "Si' Perkins Jr.

CASEY, Ill. - Walter Al "Si' Perkins Jr., 82, of Casey died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Heartland Manor Nursing Center. He was born July 10, 1919, in Casey to Walter Allen Perkins Sr. and Mary Eva McCoy Perkins. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Burris Perkins; one brother, Charles Perkins; one sister, Esther McMillan; and many nieces and nephews. Services are 10:30 a.m. CST Monday in First Christian Church. Burial is in Washington Street cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Markwell & Son Funeral Home.

Ferne A. Bristow

PARIS, Ill. - Ferne A. Bristow, 97, of Huntsville, Ala., and formerly of Paris died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Parkview Village in Huntsville. She was born July 9, 1904, in Edgar County to Charles Harvey Anderson and Ida May Bonford Anderson. Her husband, Warren K. Bristow, died June 2, 1957. Survivors include five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 1:30 p.m. CST Tuesday in Edgar cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Pringle officiating. Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sutton & Son Funeral Home.ss

Mary Gail Coates

PALESTINE, Ill. - Mary Gail Coates, 61, of Palestine died at 5:42 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind., following a brief illness. She was born March 20, 1940, in Gary, Ind., to William Kenneth Gettinger and Mary Beth Houser Gettinger. Survivors include one daughter, Rachel King; three sons, Robert Coates, Zachary Coates and Damon Coates; one brother, Bill Gettinger; two sisters, Rebecca Van Cleave and Elizabeth Jane Hoff; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 10:30 a.m. CST Monday in Goodwine Funeral Home. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and before services Monday.

Helen Hubbard Miller

MARSHALL, Ill. - Helen Hubbard Miller, 78, of Marshall died at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Hospice House in Cape Coral, Fla., of cancer. She was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Princeton, Ind., to Haskell O. Wallace and Fannie Rae Sowders Wallace. Her first husband, Charles E. "Chick" Hubbard, died April 9, 1988. Survivors include her husband, William E. Miller; two daughters, Bonnie Taylor and Lucinda Wesley; one brother, Jerauld E. Wallace Sr.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. CST in Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union. Burial is in Maple Hill cemetery in Princeton. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Lloyd M. Rogers

MARSHALL, Ill. - Lloyd M. Rogers, 75, of Marshall died at 5:52 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in the emergency room of Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was born May 22, 1926, near Martinsville to Asa Rogers and Dora Callaway Rogers. Survivors include his wife, Flo Ann Carpenter Rogers; one son, Steven Rogers; one daughter, Peggy Sanders; four grandchildren; and four step grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. CST Monday in Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Wright officiating. Burial is in Livingston cemetery, with graveside military rites by Clark County Post 90 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. until services Monday.

Mary Catherine Webster

PARIS, Ill. - Mary Catherine Webster, 81, of rural Paris died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in her residence. She was born April 4, 1920, in Nevins, to Henry J. Lamb and Stella Roll Lamb. Survivors include her husband, William F. Webster; three sons, Robert L. Webster, Daniel G. Webster and Billy J. Webster; five daughters, Elizabeth Humphrey, Mary Terrell, Wilma J. Johnson, Cynthia Brown and Catharine Goodner; two brothers, Forrest Lamb and John lamb; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. CST Tuesday in Sutton & Son Funeral Home. Burial is in New Providence cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until services Tuesday.
