Marvin Lee Dicus

MARSHALL, Ill. - Marvin Lee Dicus, 77, of Marshall died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in Highland Manor Senior Center in Perrysville, Ind. He was retired from Farm Services in Marshall. He was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Jasonville, Ind. to Alvin Dicus and Emma Daugherty Dicus. He married Lettie Grace Sturm on June 19, 1945, in Terre Haute, Ind. Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, William Dale Dicus and his wife Laurie of Perrysville; a daughter and son-in-law, Anna Lea Brenton and her husband Charles of Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren, Steven Lee Brenton and his wife April of Citrus Springs, Fla., Candy Lynn Brenton of Santa Fe, Derrick Dicus and Derrin Lee Dicus, both of Terre Haute; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Jean Brenton and Rebecca Lynn Brenton, both of Citrus Springs; two brothers, Wayne Dicus of Terre Haute and Andrew Dicus of Jasonville; two half brothers, Merle Wilkins and Albert Wilkins, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; and two half sisters, Emma Fry of Linton, Ind., and Carolyn Fry of Jasonville. He attended the River of Life Church in West Terre Haute, Ind. He enjoyed bicycling, gardening and antiques. He will be long remembered for the antique car he often drove for pleasure and in parades. He also enjoyed playing his juice harp at church. Special thanks from the family is extended to Lincolnland Hospice and Hospice of the Wabash Valley for the wonderful care given to Marvin during his illness. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, with Robert Maskell officiating. Burial is in Zion cemetery, rural Marshall. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. until services Saturday in the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or Hospice of the Wabash Valley.

Linda D. Fleming

PARIS, Ill. - Linda D. Fleming, 41, of Paris, died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, in her home. She was born Aug. 4, 1962, in Paris, to Robert J. Truesdale and Marnita Batchelor Truesdale. Her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Fleming, survives her. Other survivors include her mother, Marnita of Paris; daughter, Darcy Renee Cusick of Paris; son, Dakota James Cusick of Paris; and a sister, Marnita Sue Truesdale of Paris. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Otterbein United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Don Shane, Maurice Midgley and James Shidler officiating. Burial is in Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.

Charles L. 'Sonny' Griffin

MARSHALL, Ill. - Charles L. "Sonny" Griffin, 64, of Marshall, died at 12:59 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Carmel, Ind. He was a truck driver for Morris Trucking. He was born in Marshall on Nov. 24, 1939, to Charles B. Griffin and Katherine Bishop Griffin. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jefri Gill of New Whiteland, Ind.; his fiancee, Marcia Jackson of Marshall; a sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Charles Kallansa of Brazil; a granddaughter, Megan Gill of New Whiteland; two nephews, Rob Kallansa and Gene Kallansa; a great-nephew, Aus Kallansa; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Chuck Griffin; stepfather, Milo Collier; and a brother, Robert Collier. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of Clark County Post 90 of the American Legion and had served in the U.S. Marines. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Zimmerman of St. Mary's Church of Paris officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery in Marshall, with graveside military rites conducted by Clark County Post 90 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Marcella Marie Baugh

ROBINSON, Ill. - Marcella Marie Baugh, 29, of Robinson died at 6:41 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in Crawford County. She was born Jan. 16, 1975, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Robert E. Baugh and Rosetta Lee Goings Baugh. She is survived by two daughters, Madison Rose Baugh and Yasmeen Yousef, both of Terre Haute; three sons, Timothy Baugh of Robinson, and Steven Baugh and Robert Watkins, both of Terre Haute; nine brothers, William Baugh and wife Jody of Elkhart, Charles Baugh of Chicago, Ricky Sanders of Indianapolis, Timothy Baugh, Daniel Raymer and William Raymer, all of Robinson, Robert Baugh and John Kozik Jr., both of Terre Haute; a sister, Ronda Mount of Terre Haute, her mother and stepfather, Rosetta and John Kozik of Terre Haute; her father and stepmother, Robert E. and Nellie Baugh of Robinson; paternal grandmother, Mabel Shadden of West Terre Haute, Ind.; stepgrandmother, Betty Welch of Robinson; grandfather and stepgrandmother, Russell and Norma Baugh of Terre Haute; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marcella. Her sister, Cassie Rose Woolley, her niece, EmmaLey Mae Woolley and her nephew, David Timothy Woolley Jr., also died in the same accident. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services Friday in the funeral home.

Erlene Baker Coryell

ROBINSON, Ill. - Erlene Baker Coryell, 90, of Robinson and formerly of rural West York, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Crawford Memorial Hospital long-term care in Robinson. She was a homemaker and was a retired licensed beautician, having graduated from the Smart Appearance Beauty College in Terre Haute, Ind., and she had operated a beauty shop in West Union for several years in the late 1930s. She was born February 14, 1914, in Melrose Township, Clark County, to Milo Chester Baker and Blanche Hodges Baker. She married Russell Arden Coryell on Aug. 3, 1935, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2002. Survivors include one sister, Norma Baker Rains, of Robinson; two nieces and nephews, Jim and Jean Rains of rural West York and Richard and Lydia Baker of Irvine, Calif.; three nieces and their husbands and families, Elsa Cline of rural Marshall, Sharon Shaffner of rural West Union and Janice Duzan of Marshall; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leland Baker and Delance Baker; and a great nephew, Scott Rains. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, West Union Chapter 776, had served as worthy matron in 1980, and was a member of the Past Matrons Club. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Walter Burdick Chapter. She also was a member of the Crawford County Republican Women's Club, and had served as Republican precinct committeewoman of Hutsonville precinct 2 for more than 12 years. A celebration of life, in conjunction with an Eastern Star service, is 2 p.m. Thursday in Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union, with the Rev. Don Russell officiating. Burial is in the Medsker cemetery, west of West Union. Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday to services in the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Medsker cemetery to assist with its upkeep.

Clarence P. Staley

PARIS, Ill. - Clarence P. Staley, 94, of Paris died at 5 a.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, in Willow Manor Nursing Home in Vincennes, Ind. He was born in Elbridge Township, Edgar County, on Nov. 14, 1909, to Alden Espy Staley and Mary Judith Johnson Staley. His wife, Salena Lacey Staley, whom he married July 31, 1935, preceded him in death on May 12, 1987. Survivors include two daughters, Letha Jane Dellinger of Vincennes and Irma Jeanne Ullrich of Golden, Colo.; one son, Paul Staley of Paris; one sister, Pearl Frye of Vermilion; and eight grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in New Providence Presbyterian Church. Burial is in New Providence cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.

Cassie Rose Baugh Woolley

WESTFIELD, Ill. - Cassie Rose Baugh Woolley, 31, of Westfield, died at 6:41 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in Crawford County. She was born Nov. 29, 1972, in Chicago to Robert E. Baugh and Rosetta Lee Goings Baugh. He was born March 5, 1997, in Terre Haute, Ind. to David Woolley and Cassie Rose Baugh Woolley. He is survived by his father; two brothers, Nelson Chester of Terre Haute and Dylan Woolley of Westfield; his grandparents, Rosetta and John Kozik of Terre Haute; his grandparents, Robert E. and Nellie Baugh of Robinson; his great-grandmother, Mabel Shadden of West Terre Haute, Ind.; great-stepgrandmother, Betty Welch of Robinson; great-grandfather and great-stepgrandmother, Russell and Norma Baugh of Terre Haute; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was born Sept. 24, 2002, in Terre Haute, Ind., to David Woolley and Cassie Rose Baugh Woolley. She is survived by her father; two brothers, Nelson Chester of Terre Haute and Dylan Woolley of Westfield; her grandparents, Rosetta and John Kozik of Terre Haute; her grandparents, Robert E. and Nellie Baugh of Robinson; her great-grandmother, Mabel Shadden of West Terre Haute, Ind.; great-stepgrandmother, Betty Welch of Robinson; great-grandfather and great-stepgrandmother, Russell and Norma Baugh of Terre Haute; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Her mother, Cassie Rose Woolley, her brother, David Timothy Woolley Jr., and her aunt, Marcella Marie Baugh, also died in the same accident. Lowell G. Brown

CASEY, Ill. - Lowell G. Brown, 92, of Casey, died at 7:14 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, in the Heartland Manor Nursing Home. He was a retired pipeliner with Marathon Oil Company. He was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Oskaloosa to Newton "Nute" Brown and Elizabeth Mathis Brown. He married Margaret Bricker on April 30, 1936, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2003. Survivors include one son, Max Brown and his wife Diane of Eaton, Ind.; one brother, Oscar M. Brown of Mason City; two grandsons, Stewart A. Brown and wife Mary of Muncie, Ind. and Steven A. Brown and wife Vickie of Lebanon, Ind.; two great-grandchildren, Christian Rayon Brown and Shelby Aaron Brown, both of Lebanon. He was a member of Martinsville Bible Church, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Clark Lodge 603 and Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and, in his earlier years, traveling. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville. Burial is in Casey Washington Street cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to services Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Martinsville Bible Church building fund.

Rev. Franklin Earl Elliott

CASEY, Ill. - The Rev. Franklin Earl Elliott, 65, of Casey, Ill, died at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired minister and X-ray technician, having served in many areas of the United States. He was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Marshall, Ill., to Robert Elliott and Geneva Murphy Elliott. Survivors include his wife, Linda Park Elliott, whom he married Dec. 1, 1963; one son, Robert F. Elliott of Casey; two daughters, Lisa Grigsby and her husband, Craig and Angela Campbell, all of Casey; two sisters, Nora Elliott of Charleston and Belleanne Salyers and her husband, Gene of Henderson, Ky.; and eight grandchildren, Kenny Grigsby, Molly Elliott, Jeffrey Grigsby, Brandon Campbell, Bobby Elliott, Matthew Campbell, Zachery Campbell and Elisa Elliott. He recently served as the chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol in Charleston; and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the First Christian Church in Casey, Casey Masonic Lodge 442, Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Ainad Shrine Temple, Areta Chapter 79 Order of Eastern Star, Civil Air Patrol and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His hobbies and interests included sailing, camping, fishing, a love of history and of war movies. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church, with the Revs. Curtis Weaver and Dennis Steckley officiating. Burial is in Washington Street cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in the church, with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m., by Casey Lodge 442. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either Casey First Baptist Church or Casey FIrst Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the visitation. Greenwell Funeral Home of Martinsville, assisted with services.

Exia Mae English

PARIS, Ill. - Exia Mae English, 84, of Terre Haute died at 8:57 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, from complications following a stroke. She had worked 17 years at Lough Brothers Roofing and Siding Co., before retiring to help her husband farm. She was born Nov. 2, 1919, to Alvah Ragains and Onetia Ryan Ragains. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James Parker English; three daughters, Kay English, Sandra Sue Strahla and her husband, Larry, Patricia Strahla and her husband, Ron; two sons, Larry English and his wife, Sandy and Dr. Robert English and his wife, Marlene; grandchildren, Will Strahla, Dr. Trevor Strahla, Angie Brown and her husband, Paul, Matt Strahla and his wife, Kim, Stacy Grcich and her husband, Ken, Adam English and his wife, Emily, Exia Kathleen Strahla, Brad Strahla, Chris English and his wife, Christy and Jeremy English; three stepgrandchildren, Jessica Patrick, Brent Patrick and Keith Patrick; great-grandchildren, Brittaney Strahla, Hallie Strahla, Kylee Strahla, Jacob English, Nathan Brown, Evan Brown, Madelyn Grcich and Macy English. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one infant son, Ronald English. She was the happiest when taking care of her family and outside in her rose garden. She was a member of Briley Chapel Church, where she taught Sunday school, and more recently, attended Maryland Community Church. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with Dr. Vince McFarland officiating. Burial is in Edgar County cemetery, in Paris, Ill. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Billy Graham Ministries.
