CASEY, ILL. - Rupert E. Gernigin, 88, of Casey, died at 2:58 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in Heartland Manor Nursing Home in Casey. He was born May 20, 1916, in Kane, to Jessy and Tessie Bartley Gernigin. His wife, Eleanor Edwards Gernigin, whom he married on June 6, 1943, preceded him in death in 1984. Survivors include two sons, Fred Gernigin of Casey and Lynn Gernigin of St. Louis; two daughters, Sandy Gansz of Casey and Carrie Ridenbark of Jerseyville; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by one sister; and four grandsons. Services are 3 p.m. Sunday in Greenwell Funeral home in Martinsville. Burial and graveside service is 2 p.m. Monday in Providence cemetery in Carrollton. Visitation is is 2 p.m. to services Sunday in the funeral home.

Ruth F. Kelly

PARIS, Ill. - Ruth F. Kelly, 76, of Brocton, Ill., and formerly of Paris, died at 5:23 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in her son's residence in Brocton. She was a homemaker and also was employed at Zenith Corp. She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Paris to Clyde Thomason and Bertha Roberts Thomason. Her husband, Blan Kelly, whom she married June 22, 1946, in Paris, preceded her in death Feb. 5, 2002. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Sue Hoke of Clinton, Ind., and Sara Ellen Kelly of Terre Haute, Ind.; one son, David Way Kelly of Brocton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Thomason of Shreveport, La.; and one sister, Betty Catherine Thomason of Paris. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Services are 10 a.m. Friday in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Blue and Pastor Cade Clarke officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to services Friday in the funeral home.

Mary Ida Riedell

PARIS, Ill. - Mary Ida Riedell, 89, of Paris, died at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, in Paris Community Hospital. She was born April 22, 1915, in Paris, to Dominic "Don J." Steidl and Viola Rose Waller Steidl. Her husband, John Conrad Riedell, preceded her in death March 14, 1950. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy E. Conner and her husband Gerald of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters, Sister Martha A. Steidl, S.P, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. and Rose E. Steidl of Ithaca, N.Y.; two brothers, Frank D. Steidl of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Walter R. Steidl of Cookeville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Curtis M. Conner of St. Paul and Corinne E. Conner of Seattle; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father William Overmann officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.

Ann Kannmacher Maxwell

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. - Ann Kannmacher Maxwell, 83, of Martinsville died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Burnside Nursing Home in Marshall. She was a homemaker. She was born April 9, 1920, in Allright in Clark County, to John Ferry and Edna English Kannmacher. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Lester Maxwell, whom she married Nov. 16, 1940; one daughter, Linda Fahy of Martinsville; one sister, Evelyn Secrest of Casey; one grandson, Darrin Fahy of Chicago; two granddaughters, Jill Fahy-Himick and her husband Michael of Martinsville, and Sara Fahy and her fianc/ Keith Murphy of St. Charles; and one great-granddaughter, Kate Himick. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Fahy; three brothers, Carroll, James and Deon Kannmacher; and one sister, Virginia Kannmacher. She was a member of Island Grove Baptist Church. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Greenwell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Cunningham officiating. Burial is in Ridgelawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Island Grove Baptist Church Youth Group. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

Paul E. McDaniel

CASEY, Ill. - Paul E. McDaniel, 83, of Casey died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Heartland Manor Nursing Center. He was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Urbana to William McDaniel and Susan Campscharder McDaniel. Survivors include his wife, Vivian; one son, John McDaniel; three daughters, Jill Billington, Elizabeth Gregerson and Pauletta Sanders; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. CST Saturday in Markwell & Son Funeral Home, with Mark Kaley officiating. Burial is in Mount Olive cemetery in Mayview. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Saturday.

Williard Monroe Pritts Jr.

ROBINSON, Ill. - Williard Monroe Pritts Jr., 60, of Robinson died at 4:03 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Decatur, to Williard Monroe Pritts and Margaret Alyce Ray Pritts. Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn Cook Pritts; three stepsons, Bobby Canupp, David Canupp and Dan Canupp; three stepdaughters, Betty Keown, Laverne Kenney and Linda Davis; three brothers, Richard Pritts, Paul Pritts and James Pritts; three sisters, Judy Smith, Georgia Ellen Gray and Elizabeth Greenwell; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 10:30 a.m. CST Saturday in Pulliam Funeral Home, with Sister Elaine Lewis officiating. Burial is in Aten cemetery in Hidalgo, with graveside military rites by Robinson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4549, AmVets Post 33 and Robinson American Legion Post 69.

Lois Blunk

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. -- Lois Blunk, 90, of Martinsville died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, in her residence. She was born March 1, 1914, in rural Martinsville to James Doran and Alice Padgett Doran. Her husband, William Lester Blunk, died March 19, 1978. Survivors include one daughter, Charlene Imus; one sister, Lola Tingley; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. CST Wednesday in Greenwell Funeral Home, with the Revs. George Nika and Dan Ledley officiating. Burial is in Westminster (Calif.) Memorial Park. Visitation is noon until services Wednesday.

Dianne E. Pollard

RIDGE FARM, Ill. -- Dianne E. Pollard, 42, of Ridge Farm, died at 8:06 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in her residence. She was born Aug. 2, 1961, in Danville, to Leroy Vandevender and Elizabeth Neild Vandevender. Survivors include her husband, Rick Pollard; three daughters, Kayla Joy Pollard, Kristina Faith Pollard and Chianne Hope Pollard; her parents; one brother, John Vandevender; two sisters, Connie Storckman and Kay Smith; four nieces; three nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Celebration of Life is 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown, with the Rev. Larry Hopkins officiating. Burial is in Crown Hill cemetery. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home.

Thomas Tyler Swopes

DENNISON, Ill. - Thomas Tyler Swopes, 21, of Dennison died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Southwood Health Care in Terre Haute, Ind. He was born Dec. 31, 1982, in Bloomington, Ind., to Thomas D. Swopes and Donna J. Ketterman Swopes. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Thomas D. and Karen Richardson Swopes of Dennison; his mother and stepfather, Donna J. and George Elliott of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; one sister, Jeana Swopes of Terre Haute; and a half sister, Bailey Conklin of El Dorado Springs. He was preceded in death by a sister, Holly L. Swopes; and a half sister, Whitney L. Swopes. He a 2001 graduate of Paris (Ill.) High School and was, until his illness, a student at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He was active in theater in both Paris and Terre Haute. Paris performances include "Nuncrackers," "Brigadoon" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." In Terre Haute he was active in ISU Opera Workshop, with performances in "The Fantastics," "The Magic Flute" and "Man of LaMancha." He also was active in the Community Theatre of Terre Haute. His hobbies included guitar, especially blues music, opera singing, acting, comedy, impersonations and movies. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church, 630 Ohio St., in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Donald Mullen officiating. Burial is in Mount Pleasant cemetery in El Dorado Springs. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, Terre Haute, and noon until services Wednesday in the church. Continued services will be handled by Hackelman Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs.

Andrew Kenneth Hogan

PARIS, Ill. - Andrew Kenneth Hogan, 47, of Paris died at 4:41 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Paris Community Hospital's emergency room. He was a farmer. He was born Jan. 4, 1957, in Mattoon to John Hogan and Madonna Lou Moore Hogan. He married Connie Lewsader on July 23, 2000, in Paris; she survives. Also surviving are his parents of Paris; one son, Oakley Boren of Paris; one daughter, Savannah Boren of Paris; two brothers, Mike Hogan and wife Nancy, and Mark Hogan and wife Barb, all of Paris; two sisters, Sandy Menke and husband Steve of Champaign and Tina Kennedy of Quincy; nephews, Scott, Brian and John Hogan, Todd Curl and Justin Kennedy; nieces, Amy Clark, Jessica Kennedy and Casey Hogan. He was a 1975 graduate of Paris High School and a member of Paris Sons of the American Legion and Sycamore Hills Golf Club. He was an avid sportsman. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday in Lake Ridge Christian Church, with Karl Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Edgar cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until noon Monday in Sutton & Son Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Andrew Hogan Memorial Scholarship Fund for the benefit of his children, in care of Citizens National Bank of Paris.

Robert Dean Miller

CASEY, Ill. - Robert Dean Miller, 79, of Casey died at 11:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Heartland Manor Care Center. He was a welder for M&E; Drilling Co., Ashley Oil Co. and Bolin Enterprises, all of Casey. He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Casey to Elihue Miller and Dessie Gross Miller. Survivors include his wife, Ramona Jean Perry Miller, whom he married Dec. 24, 1950, in Casey; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tami and Jerry Hacket of Westfield, Janice and Bill Blankenbaker of Casey, and Nancee and Lee Owens of Avon, Ind.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Mary Miller of Casey and Clyde and Linda Miller of Greely, Colo.; a half brother, Oscar Lee Chapman of Danville; and seven grandchildren, Amanda Hackett Kunde and husband Jeremiah, Nathan Hackett, Brandon Blankenbaker, Ryan Blankenbaker, Quinton Owens, Aaron Owens and Monaca Owens. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Dessie Gross Miller Chapman; one half brother, Larry Dale Chapman; and one half sister, Mary Jane Chapman. He served in the Army during World War II and received four overseas service bars, the European-African, Middle Eastern Campaign medal, a Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct medal, Distinguished Unit badge, Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and World War II Victory medal. He was a member of Casey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5762, Hazel Dell American Legion Post 1230 and Casey Masonic Lodge 442 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Markwell & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Hollensbe officiating. Music is by Barb Conrad and Julie Denny. Burial is in Washington Street cemetery, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 5762 and American Legion Post 1230. Pallbearers are Nathan Hackett, Brandon Blankenbaker, Ryan Blankenbaker, Quinton Owens, Aaron Owens and Jeremiah Kunde. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Masonic service at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Marguerite Kathryn Gossmann

MARSHALL, Ill. - Marguerite Kathryn Gossmann, 88, of Marshall and formerly of Marissa died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004. She was born April 9, 1916, in Marissa Township, St. Clair County, Ill. Survivors include her husband, Albert Gossmann, whom she married Jan. 25, 1942, in Marissa; one son, Allan Gossman and his wife, Nancy of Marshall; one grandson, Adam Gossmann of Marshall; one granddaughter, Celeste Gossmann of Marshall; and one nephew, Larry Hermanns and his wife, Shirley of Couterville. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Norine Hermanns. She was a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ, where she served for many years in the Women's Guild, and was a Sunday School teacher. Services are noon Saturday, in Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, with the Rev. Clara Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Marissa cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services, in the funeral Home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Friedens United Church of Christ. Pearce Funeral Home of Marshall assisted with arrangements.
