Mina Rogers

ROBINSON, Ill. — Mina J. Rogers, 76, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Crawford Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Oblong.

Surviving are a son, Jerry of Gainsville, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry William, in 1982, and by a son, John Clinton Rogers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pulliam Funeral Home Oblong Chapel, with burial in Oblong cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Ena Smith

GRAYVILLE, Ill. — Ena E. Smith, 94, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She was a retired seamstress, having worked at Johnnye Manufacturing in Albion and Kaufman Manufacturing in Mount Carmel.

She was a member of Grayville Senior Citizens, Royal Neighbors, the United Garment Workers, Senior Citizens Board and the Cowling Ruritan Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Buck of Fort Branch, Ind., and Dauna Hamilton of Albion; three grandchildren, Stephen Hortin, Cindy Graef and Krista Harms; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home Grayville Chapel, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ronald Davis

DAHLGREN, Ill.— Ronald L. Davis, 62, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at his home of respiratory failure.

He was self-employed. He had been a fireman, mayor and board member of the village of Dahlgren and a chef for Burnt Hill Bar B-Q.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a woodworker.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (Karcher); two daughters, Ann Metzger of Dahlgren and Janet Birkner of McLeansboro; two sons, Gary of McLeansboro and Dan of Christopher; a brother, Joe of Springfield, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Tyler Davies, Travis Avery, Whitney and Ryan Metzger and Nathan, Aimee and Kristin Birkner.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John Catholic Church, with burial in St. John’s cemetery.

Harre Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ella Nettleton

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Ella Mae Nettleton, 87, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Oakview Heights Rehabilitation Center.

She retired as a nurse’s aide.

She was Baptist.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kay Root of Taylorville and five grandchildren.

Her husband, Robert, died in 1966.

Private graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Memorial cemetery.

Short Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Bradley Volkman

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Bradley L. Volkman, 31, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, in an automobile accident near Cadiz, Ky.

He had been a Lawrenceville City Police Officer for three years.

He was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church and the Moose.

Surviving are his wife, Marcie (Simmons); three sons, Tanner, Dylan and Noah, all at home; his mother, Sheila Eaton of Mount Vernon; his father and stepmother, Victor L. and Patty K. Volkman of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Jennifer Hopkins of Mount Vernon; a stepsister, Nancy Sherman of St. Francisville; and grandparents, Victor V. and Patty Volkman.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eddie Meyers

WAYNE CITY, Ill. — Eddie Meyers, 54, formerly of Wayne City, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at his home in Stafford, Mo., of an apparent heart attack.

He was a heavy equipment operator.

He was Protestant.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Dickey of Wayne City and Julie Meyers of Mount Vernon; two sons, Brandon and Bradley, both of Neodesha, Kan.; and a sister, Treva Barnett of Wayne City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City, with burial in Thomason cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to service time at the chapel. Richardson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Donald Lanter

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Donald N. Lanter, 84, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He retired from Sheehan Pipeline as an accountant and he was a member of the Canaan Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Margaret Leach of Ferndale, Wash., and Helen Elizabeth Williams of Joplin, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

His wife, Helen (McCarter), died in 1994.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral, with burial in Lawrencville City cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James Martin

NEW HAVEN, Ill. — James G. Martin, 47, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ill., from complications of Crohn’s disease.

He was a mechanic and an Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Kay of Albion; a daughter, Jerri Anita Martin; a son, William of Chester, Ill.; his mother, Betty Martin of Geff; a sister, Susan Durham of Evansville; two stepsisters; four brothers, Rick of Bone Gap, David of Lawrenceville, Allen of Camden, Ind., and John of Logansport, Ind.; four stepbrothers; and nieces and nephews.

A son, J.J., preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nales Funeral Home in Albion, with burial in Union Ridge cemetery in New Haven.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arthur Young

MCLEANSBORO, Ill. — Arthur E. Young, 69, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital of heart failure.

He owned the Young Trucking Service in McLeansboro.

He was a Korean War Army veteran and member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was Protestant.

Surviving are two sons, John of Opdyke and Eric of California; his mother, Ruth Hutchraft of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Andrea Adams, Idena Browning and Jolene and Jay Young; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Myrtle Hetzel

MILL SHOALS — Myrtle M. Hetzel, 88, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Way-Fair Nursing Home in Fairfield.

She was a cook at the Mill Shoals school for many years. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Mill Shoals.

Surviving are three daughters, Flora Randolph of Springerton, Dorothy Randolph of Clearfield, Utah, and Edna Velie of Macon, Ga.; two sons, James Bailey of Mill Shoals and Franklin Bailey of Fairfield; five stepchildren; four sisters, Frances Venters and Julie Mayhue, both of Mill Shoals, Martha Hearing of Indianapolis and Earlene Silverheels of Elizabethtown; 19 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, Frank Bailey, died in 1966 and her second husband, Wilson Hetzel, died in 1994.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gospel Assembly Church, with burial in Shrewsbury cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elledge Funeral Home.

Ruth Adams

MCLEANSBORO — Ruth Adams, 75, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital of respiratory failure.

She was a registered nurse in Hamilton County schools for 22 years and past director of nurses at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.

She was Illinois School Nurse of the Year in 1988. She was a nurse in the Army Cadet Corps during World War II.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and Illinois School Nurses Association.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, James W.; two daughters, Wendelin Ann Adams of Tulsa, Okla., and Jan Ellyn Belva of Mount Vernon; two sons, Kendall Reid of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Stan Allan of New Freedom, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Kristin Frost, Kerri Sallusti, Kelly Owens, April Belva, Nicole Wilburn, Reid, Keeling and Kasey Adams, and Brandi Ray and Lyndi Tennyson; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harre Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hamilton County Historical Society or the McCoy Memorial Library.
