Donnie Lewis

SHAWNEETOWN — Donnie W. Lewis, 50, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his home in Coulterville of cancer.

He was a coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the Elite Anglers of Coulterville.

Surviving are his wife, Julie Anne; a daughter, Nikki Wenzel of Coulterville; a son, Eric Wenzel of Coulterville; two sisters, Joyce Dozier of Shawneetown and Sheila Nall of Ridgway; and a brother, Gary of Shawneetown.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Cox & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Elmwood cemetery in Equality, with military rites.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Leann Russell

DALE, Ill. — Leann Russell, 27, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in an automobile accident near McLeansboro.

She was a teacher’s aide at the Dale Grade School. She was attending the Rend Lake College in Ina. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Beloit, Wis.

Surviving is her husband, David C.; a daughter, Sarah Hahn of Dale; her parents, Rex and Marsha Sharp of Beloit; a sister, Christine Diaz of Beloit; and grandparents, Wendell and Luella Steele and Lyle and Donna Sharp.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Daley-Murphy-Wisch Funeral Home in Beloit.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home.

Opal Henderson

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ill. — Opal Dean Henderson, 70, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at her home.

She was a licensed practical nurse.

She was a member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, William W. “Pete”; two sons, Teddy of Paducah, Ky., and Herbert of Golconda; a brother, Lowell Hamp of Rosiclare; four grandchildren, Andy, Amy, Mike and Nathan Henderson.

She was preceded in death by a son.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Elizabethtown Odd Fellows cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Jeanie Welsh

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Jeanie Winifred Welsh, 83, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She retired from Hills Department Store in Vincennes, Ind., where she worked as a bookkeeper.

She was a member of the Lawrenceville Church of Christ.

Surviving are two sisters, Hazel Harper of Bar Harbor, Maine, and Norma Anderson of Mount Carmel; two brothers, Melvin and Charles Walters, both of Linton, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Short Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Zimmer

HARRISBURG, Ill. — Elizabeth Jane Zimmer, 65, of Converse, La., formerly of Harrisburg, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Christus Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, La.

She was a member of Henrietta Congregation Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Edward Dale; a daughter, Cynthia Estelle McClintock of Converse; two sons, Edward Dale Jr. and David Allen, both of Converse; five sisters, Margaret Wilkes, Mildred Parker, Betty Darringer, Wanda Robinson and Eloise Harmon; a brother, Herbert Ross; four grandchildren, Misty Nadina, Clark Kent and Sean Quentin McClintock, and Michele Elizabeth Hatch; and a great-grandson.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Hill cemetery, with burial of cremains to follow in Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg.

Delores Dickey

FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Delores S. Dickey, 83, formerly of Fairfield, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Franklin United Methodist Home in Franklin, Ind.

She was a retired school teacher, having taught at Fairfield and Wayne City schools.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Fairfield.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Kay Cox of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Larry D. of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Joyce D. Haynes of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, H. Dale Stark of Hawaii and William E. Stark of Mattoon; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Henry M., died in 1963.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nale’s Funeral Home Fairfield Chapel, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mabel Clarida

CARRIER MILLS, Ill. — Mabel Clarida, 88, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Dale of Washington; and a granddaughter, Debbie Kuhne.

Her husband, Jesse Earl, died in 1978.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with burial in Salem cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ervin Johnson

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Ervin L. Johnson, 88, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at United Methodist Village.

He worked at United 20 School District as a custodian.

He was a member of the Moose, Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are a niece and a nephew.

His wife, Margaret (Griffith), died in 1986.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial in Lawrenceville City cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Helen Brookbank

HARRISBURG, Ill. — Helen Marie Brookbank, 87, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Saline Care Center.

She was a member of Harrisburg First Baptist Church and a former member of Rebekah Lodge and the Home Extension.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Johnson of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Lynn and Tim Gulley, Nikki Johnson Simmerly and Tige Johnson; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Her husband, Harry, died in 1969.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Sunset Gardens cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Gaskins Funeral Home.

Leon Walker

ELDORADO, Ill. — Leon F. “Poppa” Walker, 85, formerly of Eldorado, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, Mich.

He retired in 1974 from Consumer Power.

He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific and at a submarine base in New London, Conn.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda; a son, John of Richland, Mich.; a sister, Thelma Wiley of Harrisburg; a brother, Ernest of Mount Vernon, Ind.; two grandchildren, Heather Widner and Kristian Walker; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, with burial in Lindale cemetery in Eldorado.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Alfred Carter

CROSSVILLE, Ill. — Alfred E. Carter, 86, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He was a retired Haliburton mechanic and a retired farmer.

He was a member of Crossville Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Bernice (Rochell); three daughters, Mary Handel of Grayville, Glenda Mitchel of Noble and Barbara Cain of Trufant, Mich.; three sons, Edmund of Lovington, N.M., Herman of Greenville, Mich., and Charles of Burlington, Ky.; a sister, Ilena Gardner of Waurika, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home Crossville Chapel, with burial in Stokes Chapel cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crossville Missionary Baptist Church.
