Patricia Phelps

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Patricia S. Phelps, 55, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis after suffering from kidney problems.

She worked as a technician in the obstetrics department of Wabash General Hospital for 15 years.

Surviving are her husband, John; a daughter, Jill Phelps of St. Louis; a son, John of Mount Carmel; her mother, Tressie Pearl (Finch) Wilson of Robinson; two sisters, Sharon Crow of Mount Carmel and Betty Liffick of Villa Grove; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bethel cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Short Funeral Home.

Dolores Medlin

ROBINSON, Ill. — Dolores Jeanetta Medlin, 66, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Crawford Memorial Hospital of respiratory failure.

She worked at Robinson IGA grocery as a checker.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith Waunett Nichols of Robinson and Diana Lynn Edwards of Paris; two sons, Steven Ray of Evansville and David Andrew of Robinson; two sisters, Anna Mae Newman of Robinson and Shirley Sneed of Mount Vernon, Ind.; a brother, Norman G. Long of Archer, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Ray, in 1963, and by a son, James Frederick.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Goodwine Funeral Home Robinson Chapel, with burial in West Haven cemetery in rural Olney.

Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Genelle Thibodeau

MOUNT ERIE, Ill. — Genelle J. Thibodeau, 78, formerly of the Mount Erie area, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis.

She retired from the state of Missouri and had taught elementary school in Wayne County.

She was a member of New Cathedral Catholic Church in St. Louis and the Arsenal Senior Choir in St. Louis.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Acosta of St. Louis and Denise Thibodeau of O’Fallon, Mo.; a son, Dean of Metaline Falls, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Brown cemetery in Mount Erie.

There will be no visitation at Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne.

LaVeryle Cawthon

ELDORADO, Ill. — LaVeryle Cawthon, 77, formerly of Eldorado, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in Valpraiso, Ind.

She worked as a nurse at Ferrell Hospital.

She was a member of Eldorado First United Methodist Church and the Eldorado Eastern Star.

Surviving are four sons, Ronald Gollihur of Phoenix, Robert Gollihur of Valpraiso, Carl Gollihur of Shorewood and John Cawthon of Farmersville; 13 grandchildren, Carl, William, Randell, Richard, Edward, Tony, Monica and John Paul Gollihur, Jim Hargraves, Sara Cawthon, Bobby Owens and Janet and John Belcher; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, with burial in Wolf Creek cemetery in Saline.

William Clifford

JUNCTION, Ill. — William D. “Bill” Clifford, 67, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center of a stroke.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia (Baldwin); five daughters, Sue Spdonemore and Viola Kisner, both of New Haven, Dessie Clifford of Harco, Montana Isom of Carrier Mills and Brenda Craig of Harrisburg; two sons, Johnny Ray of New Haven and James of Junction; six sisters, Louise Johnson, Edith Littrell and Rose Goforth, all of New Haven, Joan Emery of Eldorado, Kay Mason of Maunie and Jennie Smith of Norris City; two brothers, James and Clarence, both of New Haven; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cox & Son Funeral Home New Haven Chapel, with burial at a later date in Union Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Hanks

CARMI, Ill. — Mary Lou Hanks, 72, died Tuesday, March, 21, 2000, at her home. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.

She was a self-employed music teacher.

She was a member of the Crossville Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Ray M. “Len”; a son, Paul of Anderson, Ind.; and a sister, Ellen Stills of Carmi.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Stokes cemetery near Crossville.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cook Funeral Chapel.

Eileen Rankin

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Eileen Hilda Rankin, 78, of Vincennes, Ind., died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Select Specialty Hospital.

She had been a saleswoman at May D&F.;

She was a member of Lovington United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a sister, Ellen Piper of Lawrenceville; and a brother, Robert L. Seward of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Her husband, John F., and a son, Bill, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at May Chapel cemetery. There will be no visitation at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Leroy Connelly

ROBINSON, Ill. — Leroy Dewayne “Shorty” Connelly, 72, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at his home of cancer.

He worked for Kenneth Freed for 28 years as an oil pumper.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann White of rural Annapolis and Peggy Hill of rural Robinson; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

His wife, Kathryn L. (Davis), died in 1998.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Goodwine Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Annapolis.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Land Hospice.

George Sheridan

CAVE IN ROCK, Ill. — George Willard Sheridan, 80, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in Marion, Ill.

He was a Mason and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Leona; a son, John E. of Cave In Rock; three sisters, Harlene Schoenberg of Sikeston, Mo., Kathy Benincasa of Boca Raton, Fla., and Mariella Rash of Elizabethtown; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Cave Hill cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Delpha Brunkow

BROUGHTON, Ill. — Delpha O. Brunkow, 84, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at White County Skilled Care in Carmi.

She was Protestant.

Surviving are a son, James Michael of Broughton; and three grandchildren, Samuel, Zefram and Aerin Brunkow.

Her husband, James, died in 1990.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home, with burial in Digby Hill cemetery in Dale, Ill.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Roy Schurr

CISNE, Ill. — Roy L. Schurr, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

He had owned Schurr’s Machine Shop at Enterprise and was a member of the First Christian Church in Flora.

Surviving are a daughter, Joan Barnes of Cisne; a brother, Jack of Whiting, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Lee Ann and Vincent Samford.

Services will be at 3 p.m., Saturday at Hosselton Funeral Home, with burial in Cisne cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
