James McGuire
MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — James E. McGuire, 67, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He retired from Snap-On Tools in 1996, after 40 years.
He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of the First Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma (Abney); a daughter, Melissa Henze of Shelbyville; three sons, Terry and Bradley, both of Mount Carmel, and Brian of Carbondale; a sister, Olive L. Wallace of Mount Carmel; two brothers, Bob of Pine Haven, Wyo., and Dick of Oxnard, Calif.; and five grandsons, Travis, Daniel and Nathan McGuire and Bryce and Preston Henze.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of God, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery.

HARRISBURG, Ill. — Bernice L. Kerszis, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She was a legal secretary with the Twenty & Jelliffe Law Firm in Harrisburg.
She was a member of First Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Alexander; two sisters, Gertrude McDowell of Harrisburg and Beatrice Brashear of Lake Charles, La.; a brother, Bernard Froman of Gilbertsville, Ky.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reed Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Lawn cemetery.

GALATIA, Ill. — Lucille Bonelli, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Union Hospital.
She had worked for the Railroad Retirement Board for 30 years.
She attended Brushy Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Albert; a daughter, Dona Montgomery of Coweta, Okla.; two sons, David Whelan of Morton Grove and Albert P. Jr. of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sloan Funeral Home, with burial in Somers cemetery.

Harold Baker
HARRISBURG, Ill. — Harold Baker, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home.
He had been a coal miner.
He was a member of Equality Gospel Church.
Surviving are his wife, Alltha (Hancock); four daughters, Rosa Privet of Bicknell, Donna Hust of Robards, Ky., Sheila Papperoth of Percy and Mary Bean of Harco; three stepdaughters, Nell Rose Cummings of Lakeland, Fla., Shirley Parish of Clarksville, Tenn., and Kay Vautrin of Shepherd, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Irene (Wilson) and Elizabeth (Patterson) and two daughters, Betty Wilson and Carolyn S. Alder.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with burial in Salem cemetery in Carrier Mills.

OBLONG, Ill. — Norma Jean Masters, 61, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Crawford County Convalescent Center in Robinson.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.

David Helderman
BRIDGEPORT, Ill. — David Wayne Helderman, 19, died Thursday, February, 24, 2000 in Jacksonville, Ill. The death is being investigated by the Morgan County coroner.
He was a laborer and member of the Church of God Prophecy.
Surviving are his parents, Thomas and Joyce (Scott) Helderman of rural Bridgeport; a sister, Julie Helderman of rural Bridgeport; and grandparents, Donald Helderman and Velda and Raymond Scott of Lawrenceville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial in May Chapel cemetery.
John Karch
CARMI, Ill. — John W. Karch, 70, died Monday Feb. 28, 2000, at his home in Benton of heart failure.
He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in Mount Vernon.
He was a Korean War Army veteran and member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Aleta Heern of Carmi; a son, Mike of Evansville; two brothers, Fred of Arlington, Va., and Allen of Pinehurst, N.C.; and three grandsons, Damon and Andrew Karch and Jonathon Heern.
His wife, Wilma Faye, died in 1993.
Arrangements are pending at Campbell Funeral Home.
Harold Schrieber
ELDORADO, Ill. — Harold V. Schrieber, 74, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Ferrell Hospital of cancer.
He retired after 37 years with the Indiana Farm Bureau Oil Co.
He was a World War II Marine veteran and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3479, American Legion and past master of the Eldorado Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie; a daughter, Sherry Fisher of Denver; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Eric Fisher.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in Gholson cemetery.

Alva Suits
ELDORADO, Ill. — Alva Frankin Suits, 70, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home of cancer.
He retired as a truck driver and he was an Army veteran.
Surviving are two daughters, Anita Tolbert of Herod and Valinda Hennel of East Moline; two sons, Dwayne of Eldorado and James of Cave In Rock; a sister, Shirley Davis of Chicago; two brothers, Everett “Pete” of Cave In Rock and Dale Littrell of Moline; 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
His wife, Juanita (Lockler) and a son, James Russell Robinson, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Potter Church in Cave In Rock, with burial in Levell Hill cemetery in Equality, with military rites.

Mable Staup
McLEANSBORO, Ill. — Mable Marie Staup, 96, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
During World War II, she worked at the Shingledecker Powder Plant.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Presbyterian Church in New Carlisle, Ohio.
Surviving is a son, Edward Raymond of Hudson, Mich.; a sister, Ellenora Brower of Lake City, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brenda Hasty and Dayle Davis; and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Edward Raymond, died in 1975 and a daughter, Mariam Viola Longyear, died in 1990.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the New Carlisle cemetery in Ohio.

Robert Judy
NOBLE, Ill. — Robert O. Judy, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Burgin Manor in Olney. He suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
He retired from Ashland Oil Co. after 42 years as a truck driver.
He was a member of the Glenwood Church, Noble Volunteer Fire Department, school board, Lion’s Club and had been a Boy Scout Master.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ann Ulm and Julia Hall, both of Noble and Sarah Zwilling of Olney; two sons, Robert Ray of Dale, Ind., and David of Noble; two sisters, Virginia Turner and Eloise Akers, both of Lawrenceville; three brothers, Ed of Gretna, La., Jack of Newton and Larry of Sumner; and 11 grandchildren.
His wife, Sarah Glendora (Ravelette), died in 1998.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, with burial in Noble cemetery.
