Helen Branch

ALBION, Ill. — Helen G. Branch, 80, of Princeton, Ky., formerly of Albion and Evansville, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.

She formerly owned and operated a small business.

Surviving are two sons, Ford W. of Princeton, Ky., and Homer L. of Paris, Tenn.; a sister, Charlotte Splittorff of Albion; and three grandchildren, Ford W. Jr., Ashley L. and Lindsay Branch.

Her husband, Clarence, died in 1989.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nale’s Funeral Home Albion Chapel, with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Princeton, Ky.

Leona Millar

GRAYVILLE, Ill. — Leona M. Millar, 95, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Meadowood Nursing Home.

She was a member of Grayville First United Methodist Church and was the oldest member of the local Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law who cared for her, Charles and Clara Pritchett of Grayville; a sister, Mae Horste of Vandalia; and two grandchildren, Penny and Brady Pritchett.

Her first husband, Lace Pritchett, died in 1940 and her second husband, Ben Millar, died in 1980.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Minnie Miller

CROSSVILLE, Ill. — Minnie Lee Miller, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at the Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, La.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda L. Nix of Plain Dealing, La., and Imogene Conrad of Fontana, Calif.; a brother, Harold Clayton of Madisonville, Ky.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Charles, died in 1992.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, with burial in Stokes Chapel cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frank Fieber

ALBION, Ill. — Frank A. Fieber, 84, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

He was a farmer and retired from the Peoples National Band after 23 years as a director.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 359th Field Artillery and in the 95th Infantry Division. He was in the Battle of the Bulge under Gen. Patton.

He received his bachelor’s of science in agriculture from the University of Illinois. He did post-graduate work in soybean research at the University of Illinois.

He was a Sunday school teacher and board member at the Fortney Methodist Church and later attended the Grayville First United Methodist Church and served on the board.

He was a member of Alpha Zeta and Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Societies. He was a member of Edward County Farm Bureau, Grayville Gun Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Ag Alumni board of the University of Illinois.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Leona; two daughters, Janet Hortin of Albion and Ann Hays of Dallas; a sister, Carolyn F. Morton of Lexington, Va.; a brother, Virgil C. of Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mark, Matthew, Mitchell and Michael Hortin, Margaret Hallden, Bryan Hays and Heather Raabe; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grayville First United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Sturm Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or a favorite charity.

Raymond Frick

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Raymond E. Frick, 80, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at his home.

He was a farmer and retired from the Cairo and Danville Railroad Line after 42 years.

He was past president of the Legislative State Committee for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, member of the Farm Bureau, Big River Bend Saddle Club and past president of the Promenades Square Dance Club.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks, Scottish Rite and Ainad Temple in St. Louis. He served as secretary of the Wabash Valley Shrine Club and was a 53-year member of the Masons.

He was a member of the First Christian Disciples of Christ Church.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn E.; two daughters, Kathryn Lawson of Washington, Ind., and Patricia H. Urbanski of Middle Island, N.Y.; two sons, Daniel R. of Urbana, Ohio, and James S. of Macomb; two sisters, Evelyn Schrader of Mount Carmel and Helen Lankford of Princeton, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Short Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Trail Hospice or the church memorial fund.

Lydia Newcomb

CARMI, Ill. — Lydia Newcomb, 83, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at White County Skilled Care.

She retired as a bookkeeper for Brown’s Feed and Chemical in Carmi.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Home Culture Circle, Business and Professional Women, Coleman Tri-County Service board and Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliaries.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Ann Mitchell and Mary McCombs Cummins, both of Carmi; a son, Donald Ray of Oak Park; two sisters, Louise Kiefer of Carmi and Mae Burrows of Crossville; five brothers, Charles, Robert, Leroy, Archie and Clarence Ray Brown, all of Carmi; six grandchildren, Mark, Kevin and Kyle Mitchell, Lynn Shiever and Alex Joe and Michele McCombs; 14 great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She donated her body to science.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi.

Ruth Harvey

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Ruth Harvey, 72, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at her home.

She was a member of the Wesleyan Christian Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Tewell, Barbara Yarber and Connie Harvey, all of Lawrenceville; three sons, Dennis of Lawrenceville, Tom of Trenton, Ohio, and Jeffrey of Summersville, W.Va.; a sister, Hazel Frazier of Lawrenceville; 18 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Junior, and two sons, Lonnie and Gary.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, with burial in May Chapel cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Bessie Caron

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Bessie L. Caron, 89, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Oakview Heights Nursing Home.

Surviving is a brother, John W. Arnold of Sunrise Beach, Texas.

Her husband, Ed, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Allendale cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. at Short Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Dale Quigley

WEST SALEM, Ill. — Dale Quigley, 92, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

He retired from the Illinois Highway Department and he was a farmer.

He was a member of the Marion Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Kay Medler of West Salem; a sister, Clara Johnson of Olney; three grandchildren, Tami Nale, Tracie Shepherd and Cale Medler; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nales Funeral Home in Albion, with burial in Marion cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Henry Wallace

CROSSVILLE, Ill. — Henry J. Wallace, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at White County Hospital in Carmi.

He had been the owner and operator of the Midwest Cement Pipeline Co. and the B&W; Oilfield Testing Service. He pioneered the use of cement lining in oilfield pipes to prevent the corrosive effects of salt water.

He was a lieutenant in the Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War.

He had attended Northeastern State College in Oklahoma.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3851 and American Legion Post 224, was a life member and past president of the Wabash Valley Association, a member of White County Soil and Water Conservation District, Southern Illinois Lung Association, Route One Association, Southern Illinois Tourism, Civil War Round Table, and White County Historical Society and spoke throughout Southern Illinois about the heritage of White County. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts and was a Silver Beaver.

Surviving are a son, Henry J. Jr.; a brother, Hugh “Red” of Okmulgee, Okla.; and nieces and nephews.

Military graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Little Wabash cemetery. There will be no visitation at Campbell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, or the historical society.
