ELDORADO, Ill. — Betty Ann DeVous, 66, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center of cancer.
She was a member of the Corner Stone Worship Center in Raleigh.
Surviving are her husband, Edgar; two daughters, Phyllis S. Hawkins of Columbia, S.C., and Jo Lynn Springer of Norris City; two stepdaughters, Janet Cremeens of Equality and Brenda Ham of Eldorado; a son, Charles Glen Smalley of Chicago; three sisters, May O. Hanson of Itasca, Sadie Clark of Galatia and Helen Jones of Opelika, Ala.; three brothers, Glen Oxford of Stonefort, Duard Oxford of Rolling Meadows and Morgan Oxford of Golconda; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in Lindale cemetery.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Emmitt R. Eagle, 75, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Lawrenceville Manor.
He was a truck driver for Smith Drilling and an Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie (Harlan); a stepdaughter, Judy Vincent of Orlando, Fla.; a son, James of rural Bridgeport; a stepson, John Brewer of Bridgeport; a sister, Becca Devin of Robinson; and grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial in Lawrenceville City cemetery.

ALBION, Ill. — Steven K. Walker, 54, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Oak View Heights Nursing Home in Mount Carmel of cancer.
He was a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the American Legion and Albion Moose.
Surviving are a daughter, Kelly Holland of Princeton, Ind.; two sons, Steven Jr. of Laurel, Md., and Robert of Mount Carmel; his mother, Inez (Paul) Walker of Albion; a sister, Betty Moore of Ellery; a brother, Larry of Louisville, Ky.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in Graceland cemetery, with military rites.

CARMI, Ill. — Yvonne McElroy, 79, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She worked in Carmi as a registered nurse.
She was a member of the East Side Baptist Church and active in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, E.V.; two sons, Toney of Rombauer, Mo., and Danny of Hickman, Ky.; a sister, “Bill” Davidson of Ada, Okla.; two brothers, her twin Leon Newcomb of Ada and Toney Newcomb of Sulfur, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cook Funeral Chapel, with burial in White County Memorial Garden.

ST. FRANCISVILLE, Ill. — Connie L. Harrington, 49, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind., of cancer.
She was the manager of Checker’s Convenience Store in Lawrenceville.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; a daughter, Sarah Kocher of St. Francisville; her parents, Clifford and Gladys Murphy and Edward and Thelma Falcinnelli; four sisters, Linda Madsen of Redding, Calif., Cathy O’Conner of Las Vegas, Debbie Lynch and Chaiquita Morgan, both of Vincennes; two brothers, Joseph Murphy of Vincennes and Bob Hawkins of Terre Haute, Ind.; and two grandsons, Bryant and Andy.
Services will be at 11 a.m. CST Thursday at Cunningham-Nichols Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn cemetery.

McLEANSBORO, Ill. — Joyce Evelyn Birkner, 68, formerly of McLeansboro, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her home in Norfolk, Va., of heart failure.
She had been a cardiac special care nurse.
She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church at Norfolk Naval Base.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Pressler of Norfolk and Connie Booten of Harrisburg; a son, Jeffery of Bloomfield, Iowa; a brother, Paul Belcher of Peoria; a half brother, Eugene Tiernan of Houston; five grandchildren, Keith, Justin, and Jaden Birkner, Rachel Pressler and Julia Conner; and a great-grandchild. Her husband, Conrad, died in 1976.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement Catholic Church in McLeansboro, with burial in the church cemetery.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Gentry Wright, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Bethesda-Dilworth Nursing Home in St. Louis.
He was a retail merchant.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Masons and Elks for more than 50 years.
Surviving are his wife, Marian (Osborn); a son, Richard Gentry Wright of St. Louis; and three granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville, burial will be private.

HARRISBURG, Ill. — Linda Darlene Peeples, 49, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Fountainview Nursing Home. She had been disabled.
She was a member of the Little Chapel Church.
There are no immediate survivors. Her brother, Stephen Peeples, died Thursday.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, with burial in Adkin cemetery near Omaha.

He was a member of the Little Chapel Church.

EQUALITY, Ill. — Mark E. Wargel, 38, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in a mining accident at the White County Coal Corp.’s Pattiki Mine south of Carmi. He was a coal miner and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Karen; a daughter, Jordan Wargel of Equality; a son, Zachary of Equality; his parents, John A. and Judy Wargel of Equality; two sisters, Cindy Gross of Equality and Sherrie Watson of Harrisburg; two brothers, Jeff of Equality and Tim of Evansville; grandparents, Rachel Wargel and Evelyn and Bob Forsythe.

GALATIA, Ill. — Georgiana R. Patterson, 54, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at her home of an apparent heart attack.
She had been a billing clerk for the Rural Electric Association and a substitute rural mail carrier.
Surviving are her husband, Loy Neal Sr.; three daughters, Deborah Lynn Mings of Broughton, Lynn Anne Wilkerson of Athens, Ga., and Anne Marie Eisenhauer of Marion; a son, Loy Neal Jr. of Edwardsville; a sister, Lilly Hall of Salvisa, Ky.; two brothers, Stanley C. Couch of Louisiana, and Woodrow Jr. of Galatia; and a grandson, Matthew Robert Mings.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with burial in Lebanon cemetery.

SHAWNEETOWN, Ill. — Lena Morse, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
She was Baptist.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Rogers of Shawneetown and Rhonda Smith of Harrisburg; a son, Raymond Martin of Junction; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
