James McGuire

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — James E. McGuire, 67, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He retired from Snap-On Tools in 1996, after 40 years.

He was an Army veteran.

He was a member of the First Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma (Abney); a daughter, Melissa Henze of Shelbyville; three sons, Terry and Bradley, both of Mount Carmel, and Brian of Carbondale; a sister, Olive L. Wallace of Mount Carmel; two brothers, Bob of Pine Haven, Wyo., and Dick of Oxnard, Calif.; and five grandsons, Travis, Daniel and Nathan McGuire and Bryce and Preston Henze.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of God, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Short Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.

Pauline Wood

HUTSONVILLE — Pauline N. Wood, 90, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson.

She was a member of Hutsonville First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol Bandy of Robinson; two grandchildren, Marsha Peters and Steve Bandy; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Herbert, died in 1984.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pulliam Funeral Home Hutsonville Chapel, with burial in Hutsonville cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Effie Campsall

FAIRFIELD — Effie (Carter) Campsall, 105, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Meadowview Life Center in Lakeland, Fla.

She was a member of the Grave Park Christian Church.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Linda and Don Johnson; a great-granddaughter; a great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Roy, died in 1985.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Shrewsbury cemetery in Mill Shoals.

Friends may call from noon to service time at Nale’s Funeral Home.

Walter Shook

CARMI — Walter Charles Shook, 56, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home of cancer.

He had worked as an accountant for the Illinois Secretary of State from 1968 to 1971, as a laboratory technician for Kasha Industries and Pierson Pyle and from 1981 to 1999 for the U.S. Postal Service.

He was an Army veteran, a 1961 graduate of Carmi High School and attended Southern Illinois University for three years.

He was a member of the World Harvest Christian Center.

Surviving are his wife, Donna (Aldrich); a sister, Linda Boyer of Indianapolis; a brother, James Shook of Carmi; and nieces and a nephew.

Services will be at 2 pm. Sunday at the World Harvest Christian Center, with burial in the North Maple Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church missionary fund.

Donald Parks

FLAT ROCK, Ill. — Donald Rex Parks, 69, formerly of Crawford County, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville of cancer.

He retired from Victor-Reinz Gasket Co. in Robinson and he was a Navy veteran.

Surviving are two sons, Jeff and Joe, both of Newton; four sisters, Melba J. Gillespie of Altamont, Grace Parks of Orman Beach, Fla., Bonnie Hout of Effingham and Geneva Austin of Mason; three brothers, Ray of Cleveland, Earl of DesPlaines and Harry of Livingston, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Goodwine Funeral Home, with burial in Jones cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Bernard Austin

NORRIS CITY — Bernard Lee Austin, 73, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at New Harmonie Health Care in New Harmony, Ind., of complications of a stroke.

He was an instructor at Frontier Community College in Fairfield and at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg and had operated Austin’s Business Service, a bookkeeping and tax service, before retiring in 1996.

He was the first director of the Norris City Community Ambulance Service, served on the Town Board and two terms as a White County board member.

He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and the University of Illinois.

He was a member of the Church of God.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Millie Doris (Mobley); two daughters, Anita Gail Barton of Norris City and Rita Diane Carpenter of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two sons, Eric L. of Mount Vernon and Phillip Scott of Oldsmar, Fla.; two sisters, Lena Fern Lee of Carmi and Margaret Alice Gerdes of Norris City; two brothers, Cyril

Kenneth of West Franklin and Edward N. of Enfield; six grandchildren, Jason and Jerrod Barton, Andrew Carpenter, Rebecca Reynolds and Kyle and Nathan Austin; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home, with burial in Powell cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg.

Beulah King

CARMI — Beulah E. King, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center. She was a member of Emanuel United Brethren Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Schauberger of Carmi; two sons, Donald of Tinley Park and Larry of Decatur; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Her husband, Claude, died in 1992

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cook Funeral Chapel, with burial in North Maple Ridge cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dewey Barlow

SUMNER — Dewey J. Barlow, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

Surviving is a sister, Betty Inyart of Sumner. Her husband, Leonard, died in 1961. She had been a factory worker.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial in Cresthaven Memorial cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Virginia Swartz

ROBINSON — Virginia “Scottie” Swartz, 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center.

She retired as a licensed practical nurse in 1989 after 32 years with the Schmidt Clinic in Robinson.

She was a member of the Crawford County Home Extension Club and the Happy Homemakers, charter member of the Susanna Wesley Circle, and the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Leora Wallender of Downers Grove; a son, Mark of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A son, Phillip, died in 1990.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Goodwine Funeral Home, with burial in Robinson New cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Lorene Rector

ALBION — Lorene Rector, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Rest Haven Manor Nursing Home.

Surviving are her husband, Bert; a son, Robert of Eldorado; two daughters, Gilberta Gillard and Mary Leigh, both of Albion; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nale’s Funeral Home, with burial in Samaria cemetery.

Friends may call rom 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rosalea Tedford

ELDORADO — Rosalea Tedford, 65, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Ferrell Hospital.

She was past member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; a daughter, Rhonda Gould of Eldorado; two stepdaugthers, Peggy Tedford and Pam Beccue, both of Altamont; three sons, Roger Brown and Bobby and Allan Tedford, all of Eldorado; his mother, Beulah Reynolds of Stonefort; two sisters, Mabel Crank and Betty Reynolds, both of Stonefort; a brother, Willie of Stonefort; 10 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Scotty, in 1964 and by a stepdaughter, Donna Kaufman, in 1992.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in Gholson cemetery.

Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
