Ernest Overstreet

ALBION — Ernest Overstreet, 79, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at his home.

He had been a coal miner and minister.

He was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church.

Surviving is a daughter, Patty Steinsultz of Albion; and a granddaughter, Christy St. Ledger.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with burial in Providence cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence cemetery Fund.

Charles Winter

ALLENDALE — Charles Edwin Winter, 67, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton, Ind., of heart failure.

He was a farmer and had worked in the oil fields.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Gibson County Tractor Club and Boonville Steam and Gas Engine Club.

Surviving are four sisters, Emily Jane Brooks of Olney, E. Lucille Etzkorn of Allendale, Ruth Ann Castle of St. Joseph and Beulah Z. Rigg of Vincennes, Ind.; a brother, C. Junior Winter of Dillsburg, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in the Allendale cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Doris Smith

CARMI — Doris Aileen (Chastain) Smith, 84, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Glendale, Ariz.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan Isbell and Jeanne O’Dell; a grandson, Tim O’Dell; three great-granddaughters; and two great-great-grandsons.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Stokes Chapel cemetery in Crossville. Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Daisy Partee

MOUNT CARMEL — Daisy Partee, 85, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Oakview Heights Nursing Home.

Surviving are three sons, David and Stephen, both of Mount Carmel, and Michael of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Kathryn DeFord of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Charlie C., died in 1991.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Short Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Myrtle Anglin

HARRISBURG — Myrtle Anglin, 96, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Good Shephard Nursing Home in Galatia.

She was a member of Land Street Church of God.

Surviving are three sons, James Jr. and David, both of Harrisburg, and Bobbie G. of Evansville; a sister, Pauline Donelson of Hammond; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Raymond, and a son, Charles H., preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sloan Funeral Home, with burial in Good Hope cemetery in Karbers Ridge.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Patsy Hill

ROBINSON — Patsy Ann (Trimble) Hill, 71, died Tuesdday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the special care unit of Crawford Memorial Hospital of cancer.

She was secretary and box office manager for the theatre department at Lincoln Trail College.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Ellen Dix of Robinson; nieces and nephews, and her caregiver and former husband, Don Bogard.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Russell Eugene Hill and Frank Blank.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pulliam Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Trail Theatre Arts Department or the American Cancer Society.

Thomas Bates

NEW HAVEN — Thomas Lee Bates, 65, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at his home in Evansville, of an apparent heart attack.

He had worked at the Salvation Army stores in Evansville and retired as a truck driver.

He was an Air Force veteran.

There are no immediate survivors.

Graveside service at 11 a.m. today at the Union Ridge cemetery near New Haven. Cox & Son Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Bryce Owens

RIDGWAY — Bryce Owens, 63, of Chatham formerly of Gallatin County, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield of heart failure.

He had worked at Fiat Allis for 28 years.

He was an Army and a Illinois National Guard veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce; three sons, Russell J. of Springfield and Randy B. and Chris T., both of Chatham; a sister, Bertie Siebert of Springfield; two brothers, Donald Owens of Decatur and Ross Owens of Rochester; and three grandchildren, Samantha Smith and Joey and Jessica Owens.

Graveside services at 3 p.m. today in Leamington cemetery. Cox & Son Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

James Sanders

CARMI — James C. Sanders, 94, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his home in Fort Myers, Fla., where he had lived since 1956.

He had owned and operated Sanders Flying Service in Immokalee, Fla.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby (Erkman); a daughter, Margaret Starling of Fort Myers; two sisters, Wanda Lee of Effingham and Roberta Johnston of Terre Haute, Ind.; a brother, Howard Saunders of Carmi; and two grandchildren, Melanie and Andrew Reingardt.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cook Funeral Chapel, with burial in Maple Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lorenz Gholson

ELDORADO — Lorenz E. “Buck” Gholson, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at his home of heart failure.

He retired from managing the Illinois Mental Health Department and from the Odgen-Phipps Farms as manager.

He was a world War II veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star.

He was Protestant.

Surviving are a son, Fred of Broughton; three daughters, Janice Arflack of Eldorado, Susan Gholson of Mount Vernon and Carol Hoffman of Bourbonnais; a brother, John T. of Carmi; four grandchildren, Sommer Murphy, Darcy Ayers, James and Mike Gholson; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home

in McLeansboro, with burial in Hickory Hill cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Harold Hill

BRIDGPORT — Harold Elmer “Shorty” Hill, 75, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Lawrence Community Health Care.

He was a laborer.

He was a member of Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife, Donna; four daughters, Madonna Rae Hill, Mary Thomas and Debbie Higgins, all of Bridgeport and Ladonna Kay Toy of Wichita, Texas; three sons, Harold W. of Gulfport, Miss., and David and Billy, both of Lawrenceville; 13 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services 11 a.m. Friday in the Bridgeport cemetery, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time.
