Steven Earnst

LAWRENCEVILLE — Steven Samuel Ray Earnst, 30, of rural Lawrenceville, died Monday, May 8, 2000, in an automobile accident in Gibson County near the power plant lake.

He worked for Lewis Bakery in Vincennes, Ind.

He was a Navy veteran, serving during Desert Storm.

Surviving are his wife, Tammy Sue (Wilkes); two sons, R.J. and Jordan, both at home; his parents, William and Barbara Earnst of Bridgeport; three brothers, William Jr. of Lawrenceville, Tim of San Diego and Larry of Sumner; and his grandmother, Goldie Chitwood.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport, with burial in Bridgeport City cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Ralph Barrick

PALESTINE — Ralph Eugene Barrick, 81, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

He was a construction worker. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Germany, and a member of Flat Rock American Legion Post 132.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Jane (Goff); two daughters, Donna Tidwell of Palestine and Mary Woods of Newton; a son, Wayne of Palestine; a sister, Rosemary Skaggs Ransford of Robinson; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Goodwine Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund or the Pilgrim Holiness Church.

Mack Pargin

SUMNER— Mack E. Pargin, 68, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home.

He was the water superintendent for Bridgeport and Sumner. He had been a truck driver.

He was a Korean War Army veteran and member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a member of the Bee Branch Community Church.

Surviving are his wife, Reba (Wells); a daughter, Christina Jane Pargin of Lawrenceville; two stepsons, Stephen Wells of Holmen, Wis., and Russ Wells of Linden, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles D. and Ronald L., both of Lawrenceville; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The body was cremated and a memorial service is pending.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice or the Bee Branch Community Church.

Pauline Vinsel

LAWRENCEVILLE — Pauline Mae Vinsel, 86, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ill.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Grothoff and Carla Hanger, both of Mount Vernon; a sister, Mary Eisner of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Emmon-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial in Lawrenceville City cemetery.

Clarence Gay

CARMI — Clarence E. Gay, 56, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at White County Hospital of heart failure.

He was a Vietnam War Air Force Veteran and member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Bonnie; three sons, Ron Elliott of Grand Prairie, Texas, Derek Ready of Grayville and Scott Ready of Las Vegas; two sisters, Carolyn Gay and Judy ODell, both of Maryville, Tenn.; three brothers, Charles of Morristown, Tenn., and Eugene and Wilburn, both of Maryville, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Judith Martin

CARRIER MILLS — Judith Ann Martin, 60, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at her home of an apparent heart attack.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Johnson and Suzie Nolen, both of Stonefort; a son, Thomas Wittle of Arlington, Texas; four sisters, Louise McMinn of Downers Grove, Patty Duke of Cape Coral, Fla., Delores Lauderdale of Marion and Evelyn Harris of Double Springs, Ala.; a brother, Thomas Jr. of Follette, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Delbert, died in 1995.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Felty Funeral Home, with burial in Maplewood cemetery in Marion.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marie McDermott

SHAWNEETOWN — Marie McDermott, 89, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in Immaculate Conception cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Vickery Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Lilia Cummins

HARRISBURG — Lilia M. Cummins, 82, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

She was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sister, Hazel Rector of Harrisburg; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Al, died in 1975.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Gaskins Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Harley Crane

MOUNT CARMEL — Harley Ray Crane, 52, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Wabash General Hospital from complications of diabetes.

Surviving are a daughter, Rachel Ellia Monts of Allendale; a stepdaughter, Michelle Fortner of Grayville; four sons, Mark Douglas, Gary Wayne and Harley Ray Jr., all of Indianapolis, and Jeremey Dewayne of Mount Carmel; his mother, Violet Crane of Mount Carmel; four sisters, Anita Jones of Odessa, Texas, Fayetta Williams and Frances Louise Hutton, both of Mount Carmel; seven grandchildren; and his companion, Starla Jean Risley of Lancaster.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Memorial cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to service time at Short Funeral Home.

Rosie Mitchell

BRIDGEPORT — Rosie M. Mitchell, 94, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Lawrence Community Health Care Center.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Mae Robling of Mooresville, Ind., and Bea Gosnell of Bridgeport; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Her husband, James W., died in 1971.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Bridgeport City cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Cunningham Funeral Home Bridgeport Chapel.

Leonard Sloan

LAWRENCEVILLE — Leonard E. Sloan, 92, formerly of West Salem, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Lawrenceville Methodist Village Nursing Home.

He was a retired wholesale grocery salesman.

Surviving are two daughters, Sherry Sloan of Lawrenceville and Phyllis Dilts of Anderson, Ind.; two sisters, Leoma McGivern of Bloomington, Ind., and Louise Speer of Goshen, Ohio; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores (Doty), and by a daughter, Annette Murphy.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ingram Funeral Home West Salem Chapel, with burial in Macedonia cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Audrey Baird

ELDORADO — Audrey Baird, 87, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus in Evansville.

Surviving are four sons, Bennie, Keith and Kent, all of Eldorado, and Max of Plymouth, Wis.; a sister, Marcella Halbert of Kincaid; seven grandchildren, Jodi Damrau, Juli, Brian and Bart Baird, Lisa Cusic, Mindy Loudy and Cheryl Tuttle; and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband, John, died in 1992.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in Dodd cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
