Frances Miller

PALESTINE - Frances L. (Pinkstaff) Miller, 91, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Lawrenceville Manor Nursing Home in Lawrenceville.

She worked on a production line at a munitions plant during World War II.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Miller, in 1995.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwine Funeral Home, with burial in Jones cemetery in Flat Rock.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Ruth Ann Cason

NORRIS CITY - Ruth Ann (Urban) Cason, 89, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home.

She was a beautician.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Frank Emory Cason; a son, James Michael Cason of Twin Lakes, Wis.; and a grandchild, Sconie Dae Cason of Paddock Lake, Wis.

Services are pending at Campbell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice in Eldorado.

Frances Richeson

SHAWNEETOWN - Frances (Perry) Richeson, 69, formerly of Shawneetown, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at her home in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., of cancer.

She retired from teaching in the Illinois school system.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Lawrenceburg.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Ann Matthews and Bonnie Chenoweth, both of Blair, Wis.; and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard L. 'Bubby' Richeson, in 1990.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Petus-Turnbo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Mitchell

WEST SALEM - Alice E. (Koertge) Mitchell, 91, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

She worked in the accounting office for Spiegel in Chicago for many years and volunteered at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

She was a member of West Salem Moravian Church. She enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Surviving are two nieces, Patsy Miller of West Salem and Sandra Rushing of Oklahoma; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl F. Mitchell, in 1982.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in Moravian cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Effie Questell

HARRISBURG - Effie (Armistead) Questell, 85, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her home.

She was a member of Harrisburg First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Nick Questell of DesPlains; four nieces and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, S. V. Questell.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sunset Lawn cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Gaskins Funeral Home.

Paul Horton

ELDORADO - Paul H. Horton, 77, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale of heart failure.

He was a retired hoisting engineer for Peabody Coal.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was a member of the Eldorado Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was a member, deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy (Nash) Horton; two sons, Bruce D. Horton of Eldorado and Gregory Horton of Kissimmee, Fla.; two grandchildren, Shawn G. and Brandi N. Horton; three stepgrandchildren, Melissa Vitittow and Nannette and Robert Frost; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wolf Creek cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Reed Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

Oliver Mendenhall Sr.

LAWRENCEVILLE - Oliver Earl Mendenhall Sr., 76, formerly of Phoenix, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Lawrenceville Manor of cancer.

He had worked for Purolator-Courier for 11 years, at Dexter Gardner & Son Funeral Home and had operated Triple T Enterprises.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou (Lewis) of Phoenix; two daughters, Nathalie Wanke of Greenfield, Ind., and Louanna Kay Moore of Phoenix; two sisters, Laverna McFarland of Allendale and Alberta Mason of Panacea, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Marie Mendenhall and two sons, Earl Jr. and William Royce.

Services and burial are pending, friends may call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home in Vincennes, Ind.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrenceville Manor.

Roy Banks

MOUNT CARMEL - Roy James Banks, 75, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Wabash General Hospital of congestive heart failure.

He worked for Coca Cola Co. for 22 years and for 17 years as a watchman at Snap-On Tools.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Fay (McTaggart); two daughters, Debbie McClane and Jeanette McCoy, both of Mount Carmel; three sons, Kenneth Roy of Bradenton, Fla., Dennis Hugh and Randall James, both of Mount Carmel; three sisters, Martha Higgins and Eula Banks, both of Mount Carmel, and Emma Michaels of Grayville; two brothers, Joe of Mount Carmel and Willard of Leesville, La.; 11 grandchildren, Christy Wilson, Tiffany Trauger, Mary McCoy, Uriah Keyes, and Andrew, Ryan, Tyler, Samantha, Mallory, Cassandra and Alecia Banks; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Short Funeral Home, with burial in Allendale cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Jerry Thomas

BRIDGEPORT - Jerry Lee Thomas, 42, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Bridgeport, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his home. The cause of death is being determined by the medical examiner in Greensboro.

Surviving are his parents, Lester and Norma (Earnst) Thomas of Bridgeport; a sister, Lu Ann Shoulders of Van Nuys, Calif.; a stepbrother, Leslie Thomas of Farmington, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham Funeral Home, burial in Bridgeport City cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Shirley Kennedy

HARRISBURG - Shirley A. (Johnson) Kennedy, 67, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home of cancer.

She retired as the secretary of Operating Engineers Local 318 and attended the First Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Ann Lewis of Coulterville and JoAnne Kennedy of Evansville; two sons, Robert William of Harrisburg and Joseph E. of Eldorado; two brothers, James Johnson of Phoenix and John Johnson of Metomora, Mich.; four grandchildren, Jordan and Madison Kennedy and Nikki and Eric Wenzel.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Reed Funeral Home, with burial in Lindale cemetery in Eldorado.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Elmer Henson

CARMI - Elmer M. Henson, 86, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his home.

He owned and operated The Spot Tavern.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Surviving are three daughters, Emma Lee Armstrong of Metropolis, Karen Ray of Norris City and Cindy Seymour of Ellis Grove; a sister, Clara Wood of Lutz, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Maple Ridge cemetery, with military rites. Cook Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
