Deloris Helvie
ROBINSON - Deloris L. 'Dee' Helvie, 81, of Marshall, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Va., while on vacation, of pulmonary failure.
She was a member of the first United Church in Marshall and the Clark County Republican Women.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie Maus of Indianapolis and Sara Alexander of Newman; a sister, Norma Wait of Robinson; five grandchildren, Troy and Shan Maus, Steve and Jodi Alexander and Jill Alier; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Woodrow 'Woodie, - died in 1974.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pulliam Funeral Home, with burial in Kirk cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Eva Rider
ELDORADO - Eva L. Rider, 77, formerly of Ridgway, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the White County Medical Center in Carmi of complications from a stroke.
She retired from the Hillcrest Grade School, where she had been a cook. She was one of the founders and working assistants in the Saline County Headstart Program and was well known as a seamstress.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Eldorado and the Alter Society.
Surviving are a son, Norbert 'Butch' of Equality; two sisters, Marjorie Fals of Equality; and Mary Oldham of Shawneetown; four grandchildren, Shawn, Michael and Nicholas Rider and Kim Childers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, in 1967 and two daughters, Janet and Carolyn Rider, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in Ridgway.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Cox & Son Funeral Homes Ridgway Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Altar Society.
Alice Mitchell
WEST SALEM - Alice E. (Stremme) Mitchell, 91, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
She worked in the accounting office of Spiegel's in Chicago and was a volunteer at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was a member of West Salem Moravian Church.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Earl F., died in 1982.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in the Moravian cemetery.

Robert Gravitt II
LAWRENCEVILLE - Robert Deneen Gravitt II, 55, of Fairfield, Ohio, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at his home of cancer.
He was an aeronautical engineer for 32 years at General Electric Aircraft Engines in Evendale, Ohio.
He was a 1964 graduate of Lawrenceville High School. He graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 1968 and received his master's in aerospace engineering from the University of Arizona in 1969 .
Surviving are his wife, Janet (Kull); a daughter, Alison L. of Cincinnati; two sons, Brian of Westfield, N.J., and Robert of Mason, Ohio; a sister, Gerrie Sue Piper of Sumner; a brother, Randall of Vincennes, Ind.; and his granddaughter, Sarah Catherine Gravitt.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, with burial in Lawrenceville cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time.
James Gillihan
MOUNT CARMEL - James Monroe Gillihan, 86, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He retired as a truck driver for Schlumberger Well Surveying Corp. in Mount Carmel and had worked as a farmer.
He was an American Indian and member of the Western Cherokee Nation.
He was a graduate of Stewartsville (Ind.) High School.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Jean Gillihan of Mount Carmel and Annetta Jane White of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, James Edward of New Harmony, Ind., and Jack Lee of Miami, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary Elizabeth (Robinson), preceded him in death.
There will be no services. Burial will be in Highland Memorial cemetery at a later date.

Mary Taylor
MOUNT CARMEL - Mary Andrews Taylor, 60, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Wabash General Hospital of complications from an infection.
She was a member of the General Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Jackie; a daughter, Wilma Jean Wilson of Edmond, Okla.; and a granddaughter, Amelia Wilson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the General Baptist Church, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time. Short Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Ray Kniffen
DAHLGREN - Ray Kniffen, 87, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Mount Vernon Care Center.
He was a welder and iron worker in Oak Park.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the coastal artillery in the Okinawa and Saipan military campaigns.
Surviving are nieces and nephews. His infant twin brother preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Odd Fellows cemetery, with military rites.

Wanda Gustin
HARRISBURG - Wanda Gustin, 94, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Saline Care Center Nursing Home.
She taught school for 47 years, in Harrisburg and Decatur.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Retired Teachers Association.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Lawn cemetery.

Dorothy Seigle
ALBION — Dorothy F. Seigle, 87, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
Surviving are a brother, Glenn Seigle of Grayville; and nieces and a nephew.

Lenard Wallace
ROSICLARE — Lenard Wallace, 68, of rural Golconda, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at his home of lung cancer.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian; two daughters, Sharon Hobbs and Debbie Towns, both of Golconda; a son, Steve of Golconda; two sisters, Carlene Dunstan and Neigel Wallace, both of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Roger of Golconda and Dale of Union, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cox Funeral Home, with burial in Good Hope cemetery in Karber Ridge.

Melvin Fox
HARRISBURG — Melvin Dean Fox, 72, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion of cancer.
He was a groundman with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 17 in Detroit and had worked in maintenance for television station WSIL-ABC3.
He was a Korean War Air Force veteran and life member of the Ridgway Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Sky Squires of Southern Illinois.
Surviving are his wife Patricia (Cooper); three sons, Ward E. and Scott Allen, both of Harrisburg, and David Lee of Eldorado; two sisters, Josephine Mick of Crossville and Vivian Randolph of Carrier Mills; and five grandchildren, David, Melissa, Brian, David Lee II and Lavin Fox. A son, Brian, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gaskins Funeral Home, with burial in Bankston cemetery.
