Bertha Swaner

ROBINSON — Bertha Rose Swaner, 79, died of complications of emphysema Friday, April 6, 2001, at Crawford Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Robinson American Legion Auxiliary Post 69 and Chaplin Street Church of Christ.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hargis and Laquita Hasty, both of Robinson; a son, Ron of Dunedin, Fla.; a sister, Lucille Rhoades of Odessa, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Goodwine Funeral Home, with burial in Palestine cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Stella Crider

EAST MOLINE — Stella M. (Carr) Crider, 82, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center.

She was a member of Cavalry Baptist Church and enjoyed making quilts.

Surviving are five sons, Ernest of Rock Island, Ezra of Cottage Hill, Charles of Dunlap, Thomas of St. Louis, Mich., and James of Everett, Wash.; a brother, Bill Carr of East Moline; a sister-in-law, Madeline of Lake Villa; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Peters Creek Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, with burial in Peters Creek cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.

Noble Price

MOUNT CARMEL — Noble E. Price, 75, died of congestive heart failure Friday, April 6, 2001, at his home.

He retired from Snap-On Tools after 31 years and owned and operated a farm.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks 715 and Free Methodist Church, all of Mount Carmel.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia L. (Smith); three daughters, Dixie Lunkenheimer of Evansville, Barbara English of Newburgh, Ind., and Jennifer Hering of Mount Carmel; a brother, Warren Liddle of Allendale; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allendale cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Mount Carmel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wabash General Hospital Foundation.

Jerry McCann

CISNE — Jerry L. McCann, 67, died of pneumonia Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill.

He retired as an electrician from Local 34 in Peoria and also worked for Elm River Township as a road commissioner.

He was an Army Korean War veteran and recipient of two purple hearts.

Surviving are his wife, Elnora; three sons, Dale Baker of Louisa, Ky., Jerry Jr. of Fairfield and Clarence of Cisne; a step-mother, Lucille Earhart of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Donna Chapman of Bradenton, Fla.; a half sister, Sylvia Forward of Mesa, Ariz.; two half brothers, Merild of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David of Gilbert, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were three sons, David, Mark and Buddy.

There will be no services. Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Warren G. Murray Children’s Home in Centralia or United Methodist Church in Enterprise.

Jewell King

ROSICLARE — Jewell A. King, 81, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

He was a 58-year Mason and member of the First Apostolic Church. He was on the board at Rosiclare Memorial Public Library.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Dianna Sue Palmer of Rosiclare; a son Corwin of Metropolis; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Evelyn (Irby) in 1983, and Marie (Livers) in 2001, and an infant son, Leon, in 1942.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home, with burial in Fluorine cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Catherine Spahr

RIDGWAY — Catherine Spahr, 97, died of heart failure Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Abell of Evansville, Ill.; a son, James of Equality; a sister, Estella Siebman of Fairbury; and a brother, Cletus Schmitt of Ridgway; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, and a son, John William.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery in Eldorado.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Hazel Phillips

SHAWNEETOWN — Hazel Phillips, 93, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Way-Fair Restorium in Fairfield.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Rudy; two daughters, Vonnie McGuire and Libby Farley, both of Fairfield; a sister, Mary Franks of New Haven; two stepsons, Rudy Mac of Harrisburg and Bruce of Benton, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Lonny, Donny and Jackie Armstrong, Mick, Marty and Tony McGuire, Sherri Lowe and Terri Rice; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her son, Harold, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, with burial in Union Ridge cemetery in New Haven.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time. Cox & Son Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Sophia Herman

ELIZABETHTOWN — Sophia Adalene Herman, 82, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Harrisburg.

She was a member of the Homemakers of Elizabethtown.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Herman of Elizabethtown; and a brother, James Williams of Oregon. Her husband, Lawrence, died in 1992.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Delsie Goodson

MOUNT CARMEL — Delsie I. Goodson, 93, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are her husband, Eldo E.; a daughter, Mary Smith of Mount Carmel; two sons, Daniel and Ted, both of Mount Carmel; three sisters, Nina Joyce of Cadiz, Ky., Mary Ingle and Goldie Deisher, both of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A son, Charles, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Short Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church missionary fund.

Juanita Healy

HARRISBURG — Juanita Healy, 84, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Ferrell Hospital in Edorado.

She worked as a sales clerk at Kmart and she was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Wanda Oglesby of Galatia; a sister, Freda Rector of Harrisburg; a brother, Sherman Rector of Harrisburg; three grandsons, Kyle, Keith and Kevin Oglesby; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Olen, and a son, James E.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home, with burial in Lindale cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cleo Richardson

ELDORADO — Cleo Richardson, 85, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Eldorado Care Center.

She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jack; a brother, Wayne Owen of Eldorado; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in Wolf Creek cemetery.

Carl Miller

MACEDONIA — Carl Wayne Miller, 69, died of a heart attack Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

He was a farmer and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Greta Dean (Price); two sons, Mark of Macedonia and David of Springfield, Va.; two sisters, Mary Lou Scott of Montecello, Ind., and Emma Martha Herring of Mounds, Ill.; a brother, Norman Ray of Macedonia; four grandchildren, Michelle Ann Page and Gina Lynn, Matthew Carl and Elain Suzanne Miller; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
