Jerry Carter

WEST UNION — Jerry Medford Carter, 44, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana of an apparent pulmonary thrombosis.

He was an electrician and a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Robinson.

Surviving are his wife, Candy R. (Myers); three daughters, Christina Taylor of Robinson, Samantha Windham of Flat Rock and Jennifer Lowe of Hutsonville; a son, William V. of Robinson; three sisters, Ann Goupil of Robinson, Barbara Mills of Phil Campbell, Ala., and Dolores Buchen of Gary, Ind.; three brothers, Robert Carter of Fairfax, Va., Michael Harbin of Gary Ind., and Benjamin Harbin of Robinson; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry M. Carter.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Pulliam Funeral Home, with burial at Kirk Chapel cemetery in Robinson.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Hospice of Lincolnland.

Earlene Jackson

WEST SALEM — Earlene A. Jackson, 42, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.

She was a midmarket management student at Wabash Valley College and a member of the American Legion auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Danny; two sons, William Dean Carrell of Lawrenceville and Ian Stewart of West Salem; her father, Earl Bird of Lawrenceville; and a brother, John Bird of Bedford, Ky.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Emmons-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, with burial in Lawrenceville City cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Larry ‘Shane’ Gash

ALBION — Larry “Shane” Gash, 38, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

He was a construction worker for Huff Sealing.

Surviving are a daughter, Andrea S. Gash of West Salem; a son, Ryan S. of West Salem; his parents, Deloris E. (Johnson) and Larry F. Gash of Albion; and a sister, Shawna Weems of Mount Carmel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home Albion Chapel, with burial in Moravian cemetery in West Salem.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gash Children’s Educational Fund.

Raymond Greer

HARRISBURG — Raymond Eugene Greer, 83, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

He worked as the superintendent of the Harrisburg water department.

He attended Gaskins City Baptist Church in Harrisburg.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Rita (Edwards); a son, Larry of Carrier Mills; a sister, Joyce Aten of Oakland, Ore.; five grandchildren, Billy, Larry and Jo Greer and Gina and Clark Horton; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were in Sunset Lawn cemetery. J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Roberta Campbell

HARRISBURG — Roberta (Peas) Campbell, 53, of Christopher, died of cirrhosis of the liver Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Franklin Skilled Nursing Unit in Benton.

She had worked as a secretary and was an Army veteran.

Surviving are her husband, Don; two sons, Steven Williford of Belleville and Michael Williford of Christopher; and a brother, Robert Dale Peas of Osage Beach, Mo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home, with burial in Trammell cemetery in Stonefort. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Agnes Naas

RIDGWAY — Agnes M. Naas, 83, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at her home.

She had worked in Chicago for the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.

Surviving are her husband, John Lawrence; and a brother, Alfred S. Wargel of Ridgway.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in Equality. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Vickery Funeral Chapel.

Pearl Varney

McLEANSBORO — Pearl Etta (Smith) Varney, 91, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.

She was a seamstress for 40 years at Elder Manufacturing.

She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and an active member of the McLeansboro Senior Citizens Center.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Varney of Aurora; a son, Curtis of McLeansboro; and a sister, Ella Davis of Springfield, Mo. Her husband, Leroy, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hopewell cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at Harre Funeral Home.

Edith Cullum

ROSICLARE — Edith Elizabeth Cullum, 91, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Hardin County General Hospital.

She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and attended Keeling Hill General Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Cruson of Elizabethtown; two sons, Don of Elizabethtown and John of Cave in Rock; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Cecil, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home, with burial in Stone Church cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Milton Bare

ALBION — Milton Faye Bare, 83, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

He operated a service station in Bone Gap. He was a World War II veteran and member of American Legion Post 1041. He was a Mason and member of Belmont United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Steven of Peoria and Roger of West Salem; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. His first wife, Helen (Converse) died in 1989.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in Methodist cemetery in Bone Gap, with military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. Masonic service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Edwards County Senior Citizens.

Vernita Woolard

HARRISBURG — Vernita Fern Woolard, 82, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.

She and her late husband of 55 years, William Noble, owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Eldorado for 47 years.

She was a member of Lone Oak United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Wilma Glenn; a son, Paul; four grandchildren; and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, burial pending. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Infant Destiny Bailey

McLEANSBORO — Destiny Cierra Bailey, daughter of Bryan A. and Trisha Michelle (Smith) Bailey was stillborn Friday, March 23, 2001, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Ill.

Also surviving are her half sister, Allyson Ash of Fairfield; grandparents, Homer and Sherry Bailey, Ellen Smith and Mark Smith; and great-grandparents.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gholson Funeral Home, with burial in Old Springer cemetery near Mc Leansboro.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time.

Beulah Lankford

McLEANSBORO — Beulah M. Lankford, 74, died of complications of arthritis Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Star General Baptist Church in Eldorado.

Surviving are her husband, Donald; a son, Kenny of McLeansboro; two sisters, Lou Dean Smith and Goldia Hale, both of McLeansboro; a granddaughter, Michelle Lankford; nieces and nephews; and a caregiver, Tonyja Cruse.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Harre Funeral Home, with burial in Braden Valley cemetery near Dale.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Harris

PALESTINE — Mary Louise Harris, 77, died of cancer Friday, March 23, 2001, at her home.

Surviving are three step daughters, Cheri Harris of Robinson, Twyla Harris of Palestine and Mona Gilmore of Hot Springs, Ark.; a stepson, Kevin Harris of Palestine; a sister, Ester Mae Coleman of Carlisle, Ind.; a brother, James E. Purcell of Indianapolis; 11 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Gene, died in February.

Memorial services are pending. The body will be cremated. Goodwine Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
