Edwin Schrader

BRIDGEPORT — Edwin M. Schrader, 79, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

He was a farmer and member of the Lawrence County Farm Bureau for 55 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Philippines for nine months.

He was a member of Lancaster Zion United Methodist Church and a member of the Bridgeport Township school board for 10 years.

Surviving are his mother, Isabelle Judy; two daughters, Ester Nicholas of Winfield and Nancy Kin of rural Sumner; a son, Lloyd of rural Bridgeport; two sisters, Thelma Akin of Lawrenceville and Lillian Bates of Carlinville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cunningham Funeral Home, with burial in Bethel cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the cemetery fund or the church.

Mary Davis

CAVE IN ROCK — Mary Elizabeth “Sis” Davis, 82, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Betty Lamb in Metropolis.

She was a member of Hardin County Church of Christ.

Also surviving are a daughter, Reta Beavers of Paducah, Ky.; two sons, Bob and Dwight, both of Elizabethtown; a sister, Dorothy Owens of Sparks Hill; grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, and a son, Lindal.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Cave Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Hardin County Golden Circle.

Harold Watkins

LAWRENCEVILLE — Harold Watkins, 82, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was a farmer and member of Pinkstaff United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Dora (Ford); four daughters, Connie Fox and Lena Kay Brown, both of Lawrenceville, Janet Sullivan of Terre Haute, Ind., and Beverly Tewell of Indianapolis; six sisters, Mildred Devine and Delores Frisz, both of Vincennes, Ind., Minnie Allen of Plainville, Ind., Betty Smith of Decker, Ind., Joann Smith of Spencer, Ind., and Thelma Swing of Lawrenceville; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His first wife, Etta Sarah (Allen), died in 1976.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Emmons-Macey Funeral Home, with burial in Lawrenceville City cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Harold Armstrong

NEW HAVEN — Harold A. “Stinger” Armstrong, 76, died of respiratory problems Friday, March 23, 2001, at Wabash Christian Nursing Home.

He was active in his community and retired as the superintendent of the water and sewer department of New Haven.

Surviving are a daughter, Jackie Duffy Armstrong of New Haven; two sons, Lonny of Corbin, Ky., and Donny of New Haven; his mother, Hazel Phillips of Shawneetown; two sisters, Vonnie McGuire and Libby Farley, both of Fairfield; a half brother, Kenny Duffy of California; and four grandchildren, Dave, Seth and Brant Duffy and Resa Armstrong. His first wife, Delores “Tooter” (Bauger), died in 1987.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cox & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Union Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Floyd Brown

MOUNT CARMEL — Floyd B. Brown, 84, died of heart failure Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He retired as a public utility worker for Mount Carmel.

He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Surviving are his wife, Helen (Biddle); a daughter, Janet Clevenger of California; a sister, Ruth Jones of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Stephanie Moore and Uris Clevenger; a great-grandson; and a niece and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland cemetery in Mount Carmel. There will be no visitation at Cunningham Funeral Home.

Mary Orr

MOUNT CARMEL — Mary Catherine Hahn Orr, 93, formerly of Mount Carmel, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center.

She taught high school for the Wabash School District.

She was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School and the University of Illinois. She also attended Saint Mary of the Woods University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Reviewer’s Matinee.

She was a member of St. Mary Church in Jefferson, Mass., and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel.

Surviving are a son, John A. of Holden, Mass.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert H., who died in 1988, and by a son, R. William, who died in 1997.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary cemetery in Mount Carmel.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Short Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Age Center of Worcester in Worcester, Mass., or the Wabash Valley College Foundation in Mount Carmel.

Mary Richardson

BRIDGEPORT — Mary Jane Richardson, 66, died of cancer Friday, March 23, 2001, at home.

She was a retired nurse.

Surviving are her mother, Gladys (Cruse) Richardson of Sumner; and nieces and nephews.

The body was cremated. There were no services or visitation at Cunningham Funeral Home Bridgeport Chapel.

Lizzie Kirkwood

LAWRENCEVILLE — Lizzie D. Kirkwood, 98, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Lawrence Community Health Care Center in Bridgeport.

She was a Baptist.

Surviving are nieces and nephews. Her husband, Joy, died in 1967.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lawrence-ville City cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund.

Walter Atteberry

CISNE — Walter W. Atteberry, 93, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

He was a retired farmer and school bus driver for Cisne schools, a member of Enterprise United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Anthony Doherty Masonic Lodge 1111.

Surviving are a daughter, Darline Courtright of Geff; a son, Bob of Cisne; a sister, Mabel Smith of Albion; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

His wife, Lucille (Russell), died in 1993.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hosselton Funeral Home Cisne Chapel, with burial in Cisne cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Enterprise Church.

Gladys Towns

CISNE — Gladys C. Towns, 83, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet.

She was a charter member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Geff and American Legion Auxiliary in Leaf River.

Surviving are her husband, Arthur; a daughter, Peggy Ann Castle of Englewood, Colo.; a son, Mickey Dean of Princeton, Ill.; two sisters, Nellie Schneider of Cisne and Dorothy Henderson of Evansville; eight grandchildren, John, Christine, Lisa, Kayley, Nicholas, Elly, Kevin and Christa; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Danny.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Hosselton Funeral Home Cisne Chapel, with burial in Cisne cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

Clifford Edwards

ENFIELD — Clifford E. Edwards, 82, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Fort Meyers, Fla.

He was a retired rural letter carrier for the Postal Service. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, former master of Enfield Masonic Lodge, former member of Enfield United Methodist Church and former state and national president of Illinois Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Surviving are his wife, LaVere (Biggerstaff); and a son, Kelly of McLean, Va.

Arrangements are pending at Elledge Funeral Home.
