Mildred J. Shadick of Lake Villa
Funeral services for Mildred J. Shadick (nee Miller), 89, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 31 Park Ave., Grayslake, IL 60030, with Father K. Kurt Behrel officiating.
Born April 2, 1909, in Chicago, she passed away Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Provena St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan. Interment will follow the services in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery
in Libertyville.
Mildred had made her home in Venetian Village since 1949. She retired in 1974 from ESO Great Lakes and had been active at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, Grayslake.
She leaves her daughters, Gail (James) Alter of Grayslake and Jackie (Richard) Homan of Ingleside; grandchildren, Lori and Julie Homan and Lisa and Dan Alter; and loving sister, Marion Axelrod of Venetian Village.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on June 16, 1976; sister, Genevieve Ernest; and brother, Robert Miller.
Friends of the family may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake.

Margaret F. Shelton of Lombard
A memorial gathering for Margaret F. Shelton, 87, a resident of Lombard for almost three years, formerly of Media, Ill., will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mrs. Shelton died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at home. Funeral services and interment were held in Media.
Surviving are her son, Vern (Joan) Shelton of Bloomington; daughter, Phyllis (Ron) Fogel of Lombard; niece, Cookie (Jim) Knapp of Rockton; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in deathby her husband, Carl Shelton.

Dorothy A. Spalla formerly of Willow Lake Estates
Funeral services for Dorothy A. Spalla, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee.
Born in Chicago, Aug. 15, 1919, the daughter of Walter T. and Anna Larsen (nee Andersen), she died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Lexington Care Center, Schaumburg. Burial will be private.
Survivors include her son, James J. (P. J.) Spalla of Palatine; daughter, Karen Hartman of Bartlett; granddaughter, Kelly Hartman; grandsons, Timothy and Daniel Spalla and Scott Hartman; great-grandsons, Andrew and Steven Spalla; and sister, Margaret (Carl) Christiansen of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Salvatore Spalla, in 1990.

Rick was born William Richard Steffen on Aug. 13, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio, and died tragically in a car accident on Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, in Douglas County, Colo., with his son, Michael Paul, the joy of his life.
Rick was a graduate of Waukegan West High School, class of 1977, and had lived in Colorado for the past eight years. He was employed as a computer programmer by K. N. Energy in Lakewood, Colo.
He is survived by his loving wife, Winter; special daughters, Melani, Elizabeth and Lisa; and granddaughter, Riley. He was a loving brother to Barbara (John) Grover of Wildwood, Diana (Bill) Neumann, Cindy Steffen and her two sons, Ryan and Stephen of Waukegan, and Steven (Becky) and their son, Billy of Beach Park.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, William, in 1984 and Mary, in 1998; sister, Susan, in 1990; and brother, Kenneth, in 1997.

Florence Belle Sund of Elgin
Memorial funeral services for Florence Belle Sund, 101, formerly of Carpentersville, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at First Congregational Church of Carpentersville. The Rev. Nancy Nyberg will officiate.
Born in Ridgefield, Ill., on Jan. 1, 1898, the daughter of Guy Peck and Stella Davis McMillan,she died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at ManorHealth Services, Elgin.
Ms. Sund was a lifelong member of First Congregational Church of Carpentersville and a former 20-year employee of David C. Cook Publishing Company in Elgin. She had lived in the Elgin Carpentersville area for most of her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Donald) Blanken of West Dundee and Marilyn Melahn of Huntley; one granddaughter; five grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bessie Adams; brother, Ernest Peck; son-in-law, Art Melahn; and grandson, Patrick Melahn.

Arthur A. Sweet of Wheaton
Services for Arthur A. Sweet, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd. (one block east of Naperville Rd.), Wheaton.
Born Oct. 6, 1914, in Spring Valley, Ill., he died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at home. Interment will be in Wheaton Cemetery.
He was raised in Spring Valley and lived in Wheaton for 55 years. He attended the University of Illinois, receiving his music degree from Sherwood Music School of Chicago and his masters degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. He continued graduate work at Wayne State University in Detroit, the American Conservatory in Chicago, Northwestern University in Evanston and Western Illinois University in Macomb.
He was one of the founding directors of the Chicago Youth Symphony and coached the woodwind section. He was the former Wheaton Municipal Band director for 17 years and choir director at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton for many years. He was the former band director at Wheaton Central High School for 29 years.
Survivors include his wife, K. Jean; daughters, Carol (Ken) Seidel of St.
Charles and Holly (Michael) Podgorny of Naperville; grandchildren, Jeff (Nancy) Sweet, Kathy (Chris) Kravas, Brian Sweet, Nancy (John) Henkel, Michelle (Todd) Bancroft, Heather (Jim) Stevenson and Debbie Seidel; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Stephen, Jacob, Matthew, Michael and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry.

Walter L. Tesluk of Park City

Born Jan. 27, 1921,in Winnipeg, Canada, he passed away Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Ill. Interment will be private.
Mr. Tesluk had been a resident of Park City since 1984, and was previously of Wildwood. He retired in 1982, having spent his entire career working as a carpenter. He was formerly a member of the Gagewood Lions Club for more than 25 years and was also past president of the Wildwood Improvement Association.
A veteran, he had served in the
Army during World War II in the European Theater.
Survivors include his wife, Alyce Tesluk (nee Manos), whom he married April 19, 1947, in Chicago; children, Kim (David) Newton of Lake Villa, Diane (Bruce) Nauer of Lindenhurst, and Nick (Barb) Tesluk of Albuquerque, N. M.; and grandchildren, Jenilyn and Jill Nauer, and Erik and Kristen Tesluk.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene, in 1997.

Marcella `Dee Dee' Topczewski of Palatine
Marcella `Dee Dee' Topczewski (nee Ortiz), 48, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at home, after a long battle with primary pulmonary hypertension.
Born Dec. 31, 1950, in Chicago, she was a Marine Corp veteran.
Survivors include her husband, Gregory Topczewski; daughter, Tracy Topczewski; parents, Richard and Viola Ortiz; and many brothers and sisters.
As per her request there will be no wake or memorial service. Those that knew her, know that she will be deeply missed.

Raymond Philip Witkowski formerly of Hanover Park
Services for Raymond Philip Witkowski, 76, of Sarasota, Fla., will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 485 S. Bartlett Road, Streamwood, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin.
Born Sept. 24, 1922, in Starke County, Ind., he died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the Arbors of Sarasota. Entombment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.
Mr. Witkowski had been employed by Ward Baking Company as a bread route salesman for 45 years, retiring in 1987.
He was an
Army veteran of World War II who served in the European Theater and received the Bronze Star. He was also a former member of Elks Lodge 2378, Moose Lodge 1933 and VFW Post 10178 in Englewood, Fla.
He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Witkowski (nee Whitsura); loving father of Raymond N. Witkowski Sr. of Sarasota, Kenneth J. Witkowski of Sycamore, Michael L. Witkowski of Kirkland, Fla., and Sharon L. Sinople of Belvidere; loving grandfather of 10; and dear brother of Violet Roeder of Mount Prospect.
