Shirley Alexander formerly of St. Charles
Graveside services for Shirley Alexander (nee Todd), 70, most recently of Dunnigan, Calif., will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at North Cemetery in St. Charles, with the Rev. Frank J. Timar, MSC, officiating. A celebration of her life will be held immediately following the graveside services at the Campbell House at the Kane County Events Center, 33W848 Cherry Lane (the street that the Kane County Cougars stadium is located on), Geneva. Family and friends are invited.
Born in Wheaton, Mrs. Alexander passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1999, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A graduate of St. Charles High School, Mrs. Alexander was employed by Smurfit Company (Diamond International) and DuKane Corporation for many years.
Upon retiring, she and her husband enjoyed commercial nut farming on their almond orchard in California.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harry `Gene' Alexander of Dunnigan, formerly of DeKalb; sons, Steven Hughes of Stockton, Calif., Jon (Janet) Meredith of Sycamore and David Meredith of Chicago Heights; stepdaughters, Roxanne (Tom) Burrs of Aurora, Cynthia (Tony) Aguilina of Katy, Texas and Christine (Dan) Viesca of Escondido, Calif.; stepson, Bradley (Gwen) Alexander of Aurora; grandson, Alexander Meredith of Sycamore; and several nephews, nieces, and other cherished family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alger Todd; mother, Neva Todd; sister, Lucille Heinz; and brother, Robert Todd.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.

William M. Avery of Glen Ellyn
Services for William M. Avery, 87, a resident of Glen Ellyn since 1943, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Leonard Memorial Home, Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn.
Born July 26, 1911, in Chicago, he died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn.
Mr. Avery worked his entire career as a journalist and publisher in the concrete construction industry. He established his own publishing firm in 1956 and retired in 1986. He had earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, graduating with honors in 1933 from the University of Illinois.
Survivors include his daughter, Midge (Daniel) Anderson of Glen Ellyn; grandchildren, Christine (Brad) Stott of Wheaton and Win Anderson of San Diego, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Katie and Tom.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Isabel Avery; and son, William M. Avery Jr.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

Lillian Barich formerly of Batavia
Prayers for Lillian Barich, 87, of Westmont, also formerly of Chicago, will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. Services will follow at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Batavia.
Rev. Mark Campabello will officiate.
Born Sept. 27, 1911, in Angels Camp, Calif., the daughter of Bob and Sophie Lepetich, she passed away Thursday, March 11, 1999, at the Burgess Square Health Center in Westmont. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton.
Mrs. Barich was employed many years at the Harris Bank in Chicago, until her retirement in 1989. She devoted her life to her family and treasured her special times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Andreena (Richard) Droeske of Batavia; sons, Jerome (Martha) Barich of Newport Beach, Calif. and Christopher (Diane) Barich of Woodridge; brother, Thomas Dabovich of Wheaton; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition toher parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Barich, whom she married on July 16, 1934, in Chicago; daughter, Corinne Whynott; and sister, Diana Loos.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the donor's choice.

John J. Blair of Naperville
Services for John J. Blair, 94, formerly of Wheaton and Bellwood, will be held at 10 a.m. today, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Born Sept. 22, 1904, in central Missouri, he died Monday, March 8, 1999, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Family and friends are asked to meet at 2 p.m. today, at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, for graveside services.
Mr. Blair was born and raised in central Missouri where he competed public school and two years of business college.
He was employed for many years as a food broker in the Midwest. He resided in Wheaton and Bellwood before coming to Naperville 30 years ago. While in Naperville, Mr. Blair attended Calvary Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Edna W. `Billie' (Wayne) Van Hussof East Lansing, Mich.; five granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary Armbrust of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude E. (nee Jaspers); three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services today, at the funeral home.

Paddie J. Bruner of Algonquin
A memorial service for Paddie J. Bruner, 60, of Algonquin, will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, at First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake.
Born June 26, 1938, in Wyandotte, Mich., to Alan and Dora (nee Graham) Morgan, she passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at home.
Mrs. Bruner had married her husband, Barry, on Aug. 29, 1959 in Piqua, Ohio.
She was a 1960 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Throughout her adult life she had lived in 13 different places, relocating with her husband when he was transferred. In each community she had a strong commitment to community work. She was a past president of HOPE in Denton, Texas, an organization devoted to helping homeless mothers and their children. She was also a 21-year member of PEO, a philanthropic educational organization devoted to women's education. Locally she was an active member of the First Congregational Church FCC Women's Fellowship, the Dole Mansion Preservation Society, the Algonquin Friends and Neighbors Club, the Forty-Something Group, Chapter JH PEO Sisterhood, F & N Investment Club and FISH, a food pantry and Christmas toy social service program.
Mrs. Bruner fought a very courageous, 2 1/2-year battle against ovarian cancer with the help of God, family, doctors and friends.
She was the cherished mother of Kimberly (Dave) Juelg of Cincinnati and Scott (Laura) Bruner of Naperville; loving grandmother of Ashley, Austin and Andrew; and dear sister of Irene (Bud) Helms of Fort Myers, Fla., and Catherine Dally of Columbus, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, to the church, or to donor's favorite charity.
Arrangements were made by Querhammer-Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

George `Allen' Burns formerly of Hoffman Estates
Services for George `Allen' Burns, 68, of Chicago, will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, at Montclair Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago.
Born Oct. 21, 1930, in Chicago, he died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at home. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Scottsdale, Ariz.
A retired director and stage manager for CBS, he is survived by his wife, Marcia Frank; children, Dean (Mary) Burns, Van A. Burns and Tracy (Russell) Scurto; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the funeral home.

John L. Carlson, 69, of Lombard, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999. Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, Lombard, (630) 629-0094.

Lowell M. Corbin
Services for Lowell M. Corbin, 79, of Bartlett, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Kelly, Colo., he passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Interment will be in Mount Emblem Cemetery.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years of Betty; dear father of Roma (Matthew) Ettswold, Sharon Cascio and Denise Corbin; fond grandfather of Christopher Lowell Cascio and Eden J. Ettswold; fond brother of Dennis Corbin, Keith (Thelma) Corbin, and the late Orville Corbin and Margarite Dwiggins; and uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

John `Butch' Cunningham of Elgin
A Mass of the Resurrection for John `Butch' Cunningham, 46, will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Inverness. The Rev. Patrick Brennan will officiate.
Born May 27, 1952, in Oak Park, to John and Patricia (nee Pawlowski) Cunningham, he died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at his home. Burial will be private.
Mr. Cunningham was employed as an assistant manager for Menards in Elgin.
Survivors include his mother, Patricia, of Naperville; his father, John, of Palatine; brothers, Terrence (Debbie) Cunningham of Hoffman Estates and Timothy (Lori) Cunningham of Spring Grove; sister, Kathleen (James) Wojciechowski of Bartlett; his extended family, Lynne, Megan and Chris Mayerle of Roselle; and maternal grandmother, Mary Barnick of Clearwater, Fla.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin.

Stanley C. Giese, D. D. S. formerly of Wheaton
Services for Dr. Stanley C. Giese, 70, recently of Aurora and formerly a resident of Wheaton for 42 years, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Matthew United Church of Christ, 1400 S. Gables, Wheaton.
Born May 23, 1928, in Chicago, he died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at his home. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Dr. Giese graduated from Loyola Dental School in 1955 and practiced in Villa Park and Lombard for 42 years. He served as past president of the Far West Study Club, the Washington PTA and St. Matthew United Church of Christ. He was also a Boy Scout leader, youth choir director, church school teacher, choir member and talented artist, vocalist and musician. In retirement, he found great joy in preparing meals for the homeless as a PADS volunteer.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 47 years, Marilyn Giese; precious children, Deborah (Mark) Setterstrom, Terry Giese, Dr. Todd (Terry) Giese, Jean (John) Gorski and Pamela (Steve) Vorass; and 14 priceless grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Theodore Giese.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road (one block east of Naperville Road), Wheaton, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

Billy Norris Garrett of North Chicago
A memorial service for Billy Norris Garrett will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Salata Funeral Chapel, 729 14th St., North Chicago.
Born May 13, 1935, in Red Bay, Ala., to Gertrude (nee Peersen) and James Alfred Garrett, he died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Provena St. Therese Medical Center.
Mr. Garrett had retired in 1996 after 40 years at Abbott Laboratories.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Garrett; sons, Richard (Terri) Garrett of Antioch, Robert (Cynthia) Garrett of North Chicago and Randall (Debra) Garrett of Brooklyn, N. Y.; daughters, Roseann and Rebecca Garrett, both of North Chicago; grandchildren, Ryan (Leslie) of Bristol, Wis., Tyler, Lindsay, and Courtney of Antioch, and John and Savannah of North Chicago; brother, Everett C. (Sue) Garrett of Tuscumbia, Ala., brother-in-law, Patrick Young of Winthrop Harbor; nephews, Mark Garrett of Des Moines, Iowa, and Gary (Chris) Young of Beach Park; niece, Lisa Young of Kenosha, Wis.; and special friends, Anna, Joann, and LeRoy Fergison of North Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mavis and Eugene; and sister, Nadine Young.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center at Provena St. Therese Medical Center would be appreciated.
