Prayers for Evelyn Guzman Merced (nee DeLeon), 50, will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Rd. ), Roselle.
Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Lombard. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
She was the devoted mother of Emylyn, Raymond, Emmy Lou and Richard Guzman; and sister of five sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral chapel.

Earl R. O'Neill, 54, of Brookfield, died Thursday, March 11, 1999. Arrangements were made by Abbey Harbor Funeral Service, Itasca, (630) 773-8433.

Melva J. Pertiet lifelong resident of West Dundee
Funeral services for Melva J. Pertiet, 61, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 18N377 Galligan Road, Dundee. The Rev. Allan Buss and VicarKyle Casten will officiate.
Born Nov. 12, 1937, the daughter of Henry and Clara Brettschneider (nee Kasten), she died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee.
Mrs. Pertiet was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Dundee and a 19-year employee of the Cardunal Savings Bank of West Dundee. She was a former member of the West Dundee Fire Department.
Survivors include her husband of36 years, Walter W. Pertiet, they married Jan. 18, 1963; sons, Chris (Dawn) of Genoa City, Wis., and Andy and Ericof Huntley; granddaughters, Megan and Allison; sister, Ellen (the late Lanhart) Roesslein of East Dundee; brothers, Don (Marge) Brettschneider of Elgin and Norman (Phyllis) Brettschneider of Huntley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the church.
Please omit flowers.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Virginia Ann Richardson of McHenry
A funeral Mass for Virginia Ann Richardson, 59, formerly of Elmwood Park, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, at St. Celestine Church, 3020 N. 76th Ct., Elmwood Park.
Born April 29, 1939, in Oak Park, she died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
Burial will bein St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.
She was the wife of Ellis Richardson; mother of Eugene (Cathy) of McHenry and Martin (Jamie) of McHenry; daughter of Martin and Delores Lacey; sister of Edward (Kathy) Lacey and Patricia Lacey; and grandmother of four.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago.

Paul J. Richert of Bensenville
A funeral Mass for Paul J. Richert, 73, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Alexis Church, 400 W. Wood, Bensenville.
Born in Chicago, he died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst. Burial will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Employed as a printer for a silk screening company, he was an avid supporter of Fenton High School athletics for many years.
He is survived by his brother, Robert J. Richert of Bensenville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul W. Richert; and mother, Mary Richert (nee Mahan).
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Geils Funeral Home, 180 S. York Rd., Bensenville.

Josephine A. `Jo' Walker of Lake Bluff for 8 years
A memorial service for Josephine A. `Jo' Walker, 82, formerly a 25-year resident of Lake Forest, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, at Grace United Methodist Church, 244 E. Center Ave., Lake Bluff, , with the Rev. Jay Walkington officiating.
Born Jan. 2, 1917, in Rose Lawn, Ind., she passed away Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Lake Forest Hospital.
Mrs. Walker was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lake Bluff, the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Riverside Foundation in Lincolnshire, and a former secretary to the headmaster of Lake Forest Day School.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Walker, former senior vice president of Northern Trust Bank, now the First National Bank of Lake Forest; grandson, Roger (Belinda) Carroll of Delavan, Wis.; sisters, Marybelle (the late Loman) Klingensmith of Vernon Hills and Helena Rosenberg of Sarasota, Fla.; and son-in-law, David Carroll of Delavan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose Roush; daughter, Judith Ann Carroll, in 1998; and granddaughter, Lisa Ann Carroll, in 1996.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverside Foundation, 14588 W. Hwy. 22, Lincolnshire, IL 60069, in her memory.

Kathleen M. `Kay' Werenski formerly of Gurnee
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen M. `Kay' Werenski, 78, of Bowling Green, Mo., will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Queen of Peace Church in North Chicago.
Born Sept. 19, 1921, in Libertyville, she passed away Saturday, March 6, 1999, at her home. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Werenski had served in the Army as a surgical nurse during World War II.
After the war, she continued to work as a surgical nurse as St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan. She retired from nursing to raise a family in Gurnee where she lived until moving to Bowling Green in 1989.
Surviving are her daughters, Joan Werenski, Jill Werenski, and Diane Werenski; sons, Ted (Mary Beth) Werenski, Tom (Theresa) Werenski and Jack (Renee) Werenski; grandchildren, Stephanie, Brett, Joey, Samantha, Teddy, Heather, Ryan, Jack, Travis and Kyle; brother, Harry Thomas; and sisters, Lorett Petersen and Joan Kennedy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Werenski, whom she married April 24, 1948; and her brother, Jack Thomas.
Friends and family may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. today, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake.

Hazel Wilhelmsen of Geneva
Services for Hazel Wilhelmsen, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Yurs Wittenberg Funeral Home, Geneva.
The Rev. Steve Miller will officiate.
Born June 17, 1909, in Jo Davies County, Ill., she died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Provena Mercy Center Hospital, Aurora. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Wilhelmsen had been employed as a cashier at Community Hospital inGeneva for more than 20 years.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Runge of Elburn, Erl (Dora) Runge of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Dennis (Pat) Runge of Geneva; sister, Genevieve of Washington; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; her first husband, Edward Runge; and her second husband, Henrik Wilhelmsen.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Richard W. deHaan of Libertyville
A memorial service for Richard W. deHaan, 55, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176), Libertyville. The Rev. Lynne E. Stefanowski of First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville will officiate.
Born July 26, 1943, in Hinsdale, he passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Evanston Hospital. Interment will be in Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook.
A Libertyville resident for most of his life, Mr. deHaan was a graduate of Libertyville High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. An Army veteran, Richard served in Germany and France as an aerial photographer. He later joined his father in business and was currently the owner of R. deHaan Wholesale Lumber Company in Libertyville. He was also a pilot and loved flying, photography, sailing, and raising and showing his prized Dalmatians.
Surviving are his sister, Barbara (Terry) Poland, niece, Cynthia (Paul) Ziemnisky, and great-niece, Kelsey Ziemnisky, all of Glenview.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard deHaan, April 17, 1987; and mother, Caroline deHaan, Dec. 18, 1997.
Friends of the family may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. deHaan's name to Hospice of the North Shore, 2821 Central St., Evanston, IL 60201.

Thomas W. Roche Jr.
Services for Thomas W. Roche Jr., 68, will begin at 9 a.m. today, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 5917 W. Irving Park Road, and continue with Mass at 9:30 a.m., at St. Pascal Church. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Among his special interests, Mr. Roche was a member of St. Pascal's Holy Name Society.
He was the dearly beloved son of the late Mary (nee O'Neill) and Thomas W. Roche; outstanding brother of Rosemary, Kathryn O'Neill and the late Francis J. (Luane) Roche; cherished uncle of Stephen (Allison) La Gorio, Jeanne (Donald) Cummings, Suzanne (James) Lundmark, Margaret (Adam) McCarthy, John (Christine) Roche and Michael (Joanne) Roche; and fond great-uncle of Tyler, Heather and Jackson Lundmark, Declan, Delaney and Brynn Cummings, Brendan and Sean McCarthy, Thomas and Hannah Roche, and Grace and Rosemary Roche.

William M. Avery of Glen Ellyn
Services for William M. Avery, 87, a resident of Glen Ellyn since 1943, will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Leonard Memorial Home, Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn.
Born July 26, 1911, in Chicago, he died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn.
Mr. Avery worked his entire career as a journalist and publisher in the concrete construction industry. He established his own publishing firm in 1956 and retired in 1986. He had earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, graduating with honors in 1933 from the University of Illinois.
Survivors include his daughter, Midge (Daniel) Anderson of Glen Ellyn; grandchildren, Christine (Brad) Stott of Wheaton and Win Anderson of San Diego, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Katie and Tom.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Isabel Avery; and son, William M. Avery Jr.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
