Susan McNees of Carol Stream
Funeral services for Susan McNees (nee Barton), 47, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 965 Kuhn Rd., Carol Stream. She will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of the services.
Born Aug. 23, 1951, in Chicago, she died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at home. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton.
Mrs. McNees was a member of the Jaycees, Optimist Club, Rotary Club and many PTA and PTO organizations at Jay Stream and Western Trail Schools. She was a member of the Friends of Carol Stream Library, founder and chairperson of School District 93 Children Authors Festival, Carol Stream Village Trustee from 1985 to 1993, and member of School District 93 Board from 1996 until the present. She was 1990 Female Citizen of the Year, 1996 Special Female Citizen of the Year and had a street named in her honor.
Survivors include her husband, Robert McNees; children, Christopher, Scott and Brian McNees; sister, Marilyn Barton; and parents, Clifford and Marianne Barton.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Brust Funeral Home, 415 N. Gary Ave., Carol Stream.
Memorials may be made to the Rotary Club of Carol Stream for School District 93 Children's Authors Festival.

Earle Middleton of Wood Dale
Services for Earle Middleton, 91, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Geils Funeral Home, 180 S. York Rd., Bensenville.
Born Oct. 13, 1907, in Lafayette, Ind., he died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Alden Valley Ridge. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst.
Mr. Middleton was employed as manager of Maywood Golf Club, Ruth Lake Country Club, Glendale Country Club and Dunham Woods Riding Club, and after retirement, the Katherine Legg Memorial Lodge for 20 years. He was a member of the Ferrari Club of America.
He is survived by his children, Curtis Lee Middleton and Gail Lee Middleton.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Ed Miller of Waukegan
Services for Ed Miller, 79, will be held at noon today, at SalataGurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.
Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Annapolis, Md., he died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan. Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
Mr. Miller had lived in Waukegan for the last 36 years. He retired in 1965 after 26 years of service to the Navy, where he was a master chief hospital corpsman at Great Lakes Naval Hospital and a veteran of many wars.
Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Regina (nee Orlowski); son, William C. Miller of Waukegan; and grandchildren, Edward and Nikki of Libertyville.
He was preceded in death by his son, Edward III in 1970; brother, Peter Hanlon Miller; and sister, Mary Jane Powell.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the services today, at the funeral home.

Wayne A. Newell of Libertyville
Services for Wayne A. Newell, 75, will be held on Thursday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville.
Friends of the family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Libertyville VFW conducting Post Honors during the visitation.
Born June 29, 1923, in Hermansville, Mich., he passed away Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Condell Medical Center.
A resident of Libertyville for most of his life, Mr. Newell was a 1941 graduate of Libertyville High School. He was a veteran of the Army, having served in the Philippine Islands during World War II, and a member of Libertyville VFW Post #8741. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Newell was employed by the International Harvester Corporation. Among his special interests, he was a former Little League Baseball coach.
Surviving are his daughter, Debbie (Warren) Krueger of Libertyville; sons, Gary (Lisa) Newell of Libertyville, Kelly Newell of St. Charles and Neal Newell of Vernon Hills; and granddaughter, Sarah Newell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anna Newell; wife, Jane Holmgren Newell, on Jan. 9, 1992; sister, Eileen Shutich; and brother, Jack Newell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside Cemetery Veterans' Memorial, PO Box 500, Libertyville, IL 60048, in his name.

Shirley L. Pazen (nee Lepisto), 57, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, March 27. Arrangements were made by BlakeLamb Funeral Home, Lisle, (630) 964-9392.

David G. Pettengill of Libertyville Services for David G. Pettengill, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176), Libertyville. Rev. James E. Scorgie will officiate.
Born Feb. 14, 1926, in Chicago, he passed away Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his home. Interment will bein Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville.
Mr. Pettengill was a Libertyville resident for most of his life. He was a graduate of the Culver military Academy and a 1951 graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a member of the United methodist Church in Libertyville and before his retirement in 1987, had been a communications director for the American Nuclear Society.
Surviving are his wife, Monika of Libertyville; sons, Paul Pettengill of Gurnee and David Pettengill of Coram, Mont.; daughters, Laura (Byron Lampher) Pettengill of Missoula, Mont. and Susan Pettengill of Seattle, Wash.; and stepson, Rainer (Connie) Nussbaumer and stepgrandsons, Oliver and Daniel, all of Austria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marion (nee Taylor) Pettengill; and sister, Nancy Degan.
Friends of the family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to either the Salvation Army or nature conservancy, in his memory.

Gary W. Reber of Elgin
Services for Gary W. Reber, 67, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Rev. Theodore Preuss will officiate.
Born Jan. 23, 1932, in Elgin, to Harold and Louise Reber, he passed away Friday, March 26, 1999, in Williamsburg, Va.
Burial will be in Bartlett Cemetery.
Mr. Reber was a veteran, having served in the Army in Korea. He had been employed by ITW-Shakeproof for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1987. Gary was one of the founding fathers of the NWTA-Proctors Corps of the ArtilleryRevolutionary War Reinactment Group.
Surviving are his wife, Judith L. Reber of Elgin; daughter, Elizabeth (Phillip) Stander of Island Lake; stepdaughters, Barbara (Roy) Raupp of Elgin and Debra (Frank) Kottmeier of Hampshire; and grandchildren, Mary Ann, Courtney and Tiffany Stander, Ryan and Andy Raupp, and Samantha, Abby and Emilie Kottmeier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Ann Reber (nee Ortmann), in 1987; and uncle, Clarence Reber.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes. Association.

Lucille K. Ritter of Arlington Heights Prayers for Lucille K. Ritter (nee Ott), 76, formerly of Maywood, will be said at 9 a.m. Wednesday, at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Hwy., Arlington Heights. Mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 432 W. Park, Arlington Heights.
Born April 1, 1922, in Lockport, Ill., she died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lockport.
Mrs. Ritter worked as a customer service representative at Jay N Bee and Maywood Office Supply.
She was the wife of the late Edwin G. Ritter; mother of Steven (Katy) Ritter and the late Mark Ritter; sister of Elmer (Barbara) Ott; and grandmother of Colleen and Matt Ritter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Hector Roman of Elgin
A funeral Mass for Hector Roman, 18, will be held at noon Wednesday, at St. Joseph Church. Father Michael Morrisey will officiate.
Born Sept. 8, 1980, in Hoffman Estates, the son of Hector and Rosemary Roman Ocasio, he died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital. Burial will be in Mount HopeCemetery.
Survivors include his parents; and sisters, Yvette Mendez, Michelle Roman and Sasha Mendoza, all of Elgin.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin.

Patrick M. Shrum of Carpentersville
Services and interment for Patrick M. Shrum, 26, will be private.
Born Feb. 3, 1973, in Chicago, he died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in Savanna, Ill.
He was a 14-year resident of the area and an employee of The Rec Room Furniture Store in Algonquin.
Survivors include his parents, Patrick J. and Kathy L. (nee Webster) Shrum of Carpentersville; brothers, Jason and Christopher, both of Carpentersville; maternal grandmother, Lynn Webster Giesen of Carpentersville; paternal grandfather, Willard Shrum of the Hines VA Hospital; and many aunts, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee.

Erwin A. `Swede' Sommers formerly of Elgin
Services for Erwin A. `Swede' Sommers, 85, of Williamsbay, Wis., formerly of Elgin, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.
Born Feb. 7, 1914, in Elgin, to Albert and Grace Sommers, he died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in Janesville, Wis. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin.
Mr. Sommers participated in many of the local sporting activities as a youth and was one of the first Little League managers in Elgin. He was also a member of the Elgin Turners.
Surviving are his wife, Elnora Sommers of Williamsbay; children, Lary (Nancy) Sommers of West Chicago, Sue (Denis) Creadon ofSouth Elgin and Jeffrey (Gerri) Sommers of Doyles Town, Pa.; stepdaughter, Diann (Lester) Neuman of Streamwood; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James (Roberta) Sommers; and sisters, Helen Powers, Dolores Phillips and Mary Singleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Helen Sommers; and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
