The Rev. James J. Rowley of Palatine
Mass for James J. Rowley, 86, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, at Williams and Anderson streets, Palatine.
Born Feb. 21, 1913, in Chicago, he died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The Rev. James J. Rowley was a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago and Pastor Emeritus of St. Thomas of Villanova Parish in Palatine, and where he was pastor from 1967 - 1984. He also served as priest at St. Rose of Lima, St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Our Lady of the Wayside and Queen of Apostles parishes. He was ordained a priest April 3, 1937, and had served his country as an Army chaplain during World War II, attaining the rank of captain.
He was the son of the late Edward and Celia Rowley; brother of the late Thomas (Annette), John (Mercedes) and Cecelia (Robert) McCann; uncle of Sr. Joan McCann O. P., Nancy (John) Tegtmeyer, James (Rita) McCann, Marjorie (John) Kayser, Alice (Robert) McCann-Stettner, John (Shirley) Rowley, Jean (Robert) Kutschke, Rita (Robert) McGowan and Mary (Patrick) Flynn; and great-uncle and great-great-uncle of many.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Thomas of Villanova Parish, 1152 E. Anderson St., Palatine, IL 60067.

Martha A. Schiesher formerly of Hampshire
Mass of Christian burial for Martha A. Schiesher, 94, most recently of Chicago Heights, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire with the Rev. Thomas Brantman officiating.
Born April 7, 1905, in Hampshire, the daughter of Karl and Mary (nee Schneider) Schiesher, she died Friday evening, April 16, 1999, in Chicago Heights. Burial will be in the churchcemetery.
Martha attended Hampshire schools and received her bachelor's degree in education from Northwestern University.
Her teaching career spanned 41 years with Lisle School District #70, where Miss Schiesher was teacher, assistant principal and superintendent for four elementary schools and a junior high school.
In 1967, she was honored by the school district in having Lisle Elementary renamed in her honor.
Martha was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Hampshire, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. She served as Eucharistic minister and representative of the first parish council board.
Survivors include her sister, Anna Meyer of Plato Center, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank, George and Ralph; and six sisters, Rose Lehman, Lorena Dumoulin, Henrietta Drendel, Margaret Grollemond, Regina Herman and Marie Carlson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire.

Margaret A. Schwarzer formerly of Des Plaines
Services for Margaret A. Schwarzer (nee Nordquist), 77, of Algonquin, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/ Schaumburg.
Born June 12, 1921, in Chicago, she died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
Mrs. Schwarzer was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #2992 in Des Plaines and a member of First Congregational Church of Des Plaines.
She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Schwarzer; loving mother of Leanne (Michael) Busko of Streamwood and Judanne (William Jr.) Pelinski of Lake in the Hills; dear sister-in-law of Bill (Kathy) Jensen; and cherished grandmother of `Punkin the Cat. ' Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Carl Irwin Swichtenberg of Rolling Meadows
A memorial service for Carl Irwin Swichtenberg, 59, will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows.
Born Dec. 8, 1939, in Chicago, he died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights. Interment will be private.
A veteran of the Army, he had worked as an inspector for a plastic company.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne (nee Papke); children, Jon C. (Julie), Randy T. (Karen) and Laura D. (fiance Chuck); grandchildren, Taylor and Katelyn Swichtenberg, and David and Eric Behnen; and siblings, Marvin, Glenn, Joseph, Fred, Roger, Keith andLynn Swichtenberg, Cheryl Glissendorf, Helen Suits and Gail Banasch.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Willis Swichtenberg.
A memorial visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the services Tuesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Children's Hospital.

Stanley H. Vosburgh of Des Plaines
Funeral services for Stanley H. Vosburgh, 83, will be held at 8 p.m. today, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Born Feb. 10, 1916, in New York, he diedFriday, April 16, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Vosburgh was a retired insurance agent with State Farm with 30 years of service.
He was the husband of the late Agnes (nee Ahrensdorf); father of Craig (Betsy), Keith (Linda) and Bruce (Gloria) Vosburgh; and grandfather of Kevin, Heather and Scott Vosburgh.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Memorials would be appreciated to either the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes. Association.

James R. Walsh, 71, of Rolling Meadows, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999. Arrangements were made by Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows, (847) 253-0224.

Arthur A. Weidmann of Elgin
Services for Arthur A. `Art' Weidmann, 79, of Willow Lake Estatesin Elgin, will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Elgin. The Rev. Roger A. Elliott will officiate.
Born Aug. 6, 1919, in Chicago, to Rudolph and Emma (nee Sommerfeldt) Weidmann, he died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at his home. Burial will be private, in Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago.
Mr. Weidmann had been a resident of Willow Lake Estates for 15 years and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Elgin. Prior to his retirement, he had worked as a pressman for 42 years at the Chicago Tribune. Mr. Weidmann was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Signal Corps.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Margaret Weidmann (nee Truelsen), whom he married Aug. 17, 1940; daughters, Nancy (Gerald) Paller of Buchanan, Mich., Mary Ellen Nickol of Bensenville, Alice (Frank) Koproske of Willowbrook, Shirley Knobloch of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Laura (Michael) McInerney of Elk Grove Village; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his brothers, Erhardt (Eileen) Weidmann of Wood Dale, and Fred and Kenneth (Cheryl) Weidmann, both of California; and sister, Adeline (Alex) Goodman of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Richard Marohl.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 5 p.m. Wednesday, at the church.
Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or to the charity of one's choice.

Mary Dixon Welton of Gurnee
Services for Mary Welton (nee Dixon), 87, a lifelong resident of Gurnee, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, Washington and Cemetery Roads, Gurnee. The Rev. William Genda will officiate.
Born Jan. 25, 1912, to Ray and May Dixon, she passed away Sunday, April 18, 1999, in her sleep. Burial will be in the family plot at Warren Cemetery.
Mary was a descendant of early pioneers in Lake County. In 1931 she began teaching primary grades at Beach Road School and in 1937 she was married to Arthur D. Welton. In 1953 the couple began a career in the grocery business which, in time, included all of their children and many of their grandchildren.
Mrs. Welton was an active, lifelong member of Gurnee Community Church and the Ruth Circle. Years ago she also participated in piano-organ duets. She was a charter member of the Warren Township Historical Society, a charter member of the Gurnee Women's Club and a member of the Friends of the Warren-Newport Library. She was also an active member of the Gurnee Grade School PTA when her children were in school.
Survivors include her sons, Arthur, Mayor Richard (Debby), Harold and William (Annette) Welton; daughters, Maryann (Dr. Manooch) Sharifi, Martha (Marvin) Schmidt, Sara (Al) Hancock and Nancy (James) Hayner; grandchildren, Mithra (Gary) Ballesteros, Dr. Nader (Cathy) Sharifi, Malisa (Dr. Jeff) Hagan, Monique Sharifi, David Welton, Rebecca (Mark) Willard, Amy Welton, Natalle (Ross) Ellis, Richard (Maria) Welton, Stacy (Owen) Evans, Brett Schmidt, Kristan Welton, Hillary Welton, Bud (Charity) Schmidt, Marnie Schmidt, Nathan and Jennifer Welton, A. G. and Courtney Hancock, and Kathryn Mary and Daniel Hayner; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Walter, Henry and George Ballesteros, Graham Hagan, Erika Ellis, Liam Evans, Matthew Talarek and Audrey Schmidt. She is also survived by her sister, Ethel Quedenfeld; and brothers, Judge LaVerne (Ruth) Dixon, Thomas (Irma) Dixon and Robert (Jeanne) Dixon; sisters-in-law, Dorothea Dixon, Eloise Daydif and Dot (Ralph) Miller; and brother-in-law, Frank Welton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Arthur D. Welton, on Nov. 2, 1993; sister, Esther (Howard) Knaack; brothers, George Maurice and William M. Dixon; sister-in-law, Eva (Maurice) Dixon; and daughter-in-law, Lynn (Arthur) Welton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Gurnee Community Church Building Extension Fund would be appreciated.

Peter Wiethorn of Elgin
Services for Peter Wiethorn, 73, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.
Born Jan. 28, 1926, in Hamburg, Germany, to Dr. Jur. Wilhelm and Luise Weithorn, he died Sunday, April 18, 1999.
Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Mr. Wiethorn had been a resident of Elgin since 1954. He had been employed by General Telephone Company for 27 years beforeretiring, and afterwards continued working at Baker Road Furniture in South Elgin for 11 years. He had served in the German Navy during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Lisa Wiethorn; daughter, Eva (David) Hanrahan of CrystalLake; son, Gordon (Daphne) Wiethorn of Elgin; grandchildren, Kelsey Hanrahan and Gwendolyn and Colton Wiethorn; and sisters, Helga (Claus) Reitmann and Elke (Gunther) Dietz, both of Hamburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospice.

Charles E. Wood of Elk Grove Village
Services for Charles E. Wood, 63, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Willow Creek Church, Barrington and Algonquin Roads, Barrington.
Born in Chicago, he died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at his home. Interment will be in Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago.
Mr. Wood had been a resident of Elk Grove Village for 31 years. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for IBM, formerly Sears Technology Services, for 32 years. He was an active member of Willow Creek Church and a volunteer in several Christian ministries. He was alsoa Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Susan H. Wood (nee Harvey); son, Charles Jeffery (Marcia) Wood; daughters, Allison S. Tyler and Wendy Lynn Wood; and grandchildren, Tracy and John Tyler, and Alex Wood.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road (three blocks south of Biesterfield Road), Elk Grove Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Light Outreach Ministries or to the Foundation for His Ministry.
