Anthony E. `Tony' Shilkus of Arlington Heights
Services for Anthony E. `Tony' Shilkus, 64, will beginwith prayers at 11 a.m. Monday, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, and continue with Mass at 11:30 a.m., at St. Emily Church, 1300 E. Central Road, Mount Prospect.
Born June 14, 1934, in Northbrook, he died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie A. Shilkus (nee Carlsen); children, Teri-Lynn Weseman of Palatine, Mark (Gloria) Shilkus of Hawthorn Woods, Valerie (Thomas) Rominski of Palatineand John A. (Norma) Shilkus of Arlington Heights; grandchildren, Richard, Margaret, Joseph, Benjamin, Katelyn, Matthew and Deanna; and brothers, Raymond Shilkus and Wallace (Janet) Shilkus.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Maryville Academy, 1150 N. River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.

Camille M. Tholl, 71, of Elk Grove Village, died Thursday, April 29, 1999. Arrangements were made by Grove Memorial Chapel, Elk Grove Village, (847) 640-0566.

Blair `Barney' Varnes formerly of Lisle
Services for Blair `Barney' Varnes, 94, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Lisle, will begin with prayers at 10:30 a.m. today, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, and continue with Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Pius X Church, Lombard.
He died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his daughter's home in Iowa. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Varnes was a resident of Clinton for the past year and was formerly a resident of Chicago and DuPage County all of his adult life. He was a graduate of DePaul Law School and was a circuit court judge for 54 years, working in the office of the State's Attorney in Cookand DuPage counties. Mr. Varnes was well known for his athletic achievements. As a player at DePaul, he excelled in basketball, football and baseball. Many credit him with the introduction of his patented one-hand shot. In Chicago he was named on the all-star basketball team selection.
In 1961 he became the first man inducted into the Catholic League Coaches Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the State of Illinois Hall of Fame, DePaul University's Hall of Fame, the All-Star Knights of Columbus Team and the Chicago Hall of Fame. Mr. Varnes was honored at the National Football Hall of Fame and in 1986 he received the Distinguished American Award from the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. His fame was not confined to his playing days. He also coached at North Park College, DePaul University Academy, St. Patrick's Academy, Leo High School, St. Patrick's Knights of Columbus, and Ke-Nash-A Pro Club of Kenosha, Wis.
Under his coaching, his teams at DePaul, St. Patrick's, and Leo won Catholic League championships and national championships. He was also the man who coached Ray Meyer in high school.
Mr. Varnes also had a spectacular career in the legal profession. He was an outstanding prosecutor for the State's Attorney of Cook County; Head of the Cook County Law Department; trial attorney for the State of Illinois; trial attorney for two of Chicago's prestigious law firms, Kirkland, Fleming, Martin, Green and Ellis, and Barlett, Costello and Barret; a judge forthe 18th Judicial District; and also worked for the office of the State's Attorney in Wheaton. He earned a reputation for his integrity and his all-around decency.
Mr. Varnes is survived by his sons, Robert (Elizabeth) Varnes of Sheridan, Ill., and Douglas Varnes of Chicago; daughters, Valerie Kruse of Clinton and Pamela Strock of Washington; daughterin-law, Marita Varnes of Lombard; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Varnes (nee Wardan), and son, Edward Varnes.
Memorials to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice, Clinton, Iowa, would be appreciated.

George Ollie Bobo of Elgin
Services for George Ollie Bobo, aka T. J., 42, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home, 364 Division St., Elgin. Rev. James Marks and Rev. Clements will officiate.
Born Sept. 8, 1956, in Hughes, Ark., the son of Willie and Ernestine Bobo Hill, he died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Sherman Hospital. Burial will be in River Hills Cemetery.
He acknowledged Hope in Christ and was baptized in 1980.
Survivors include his son, Dexter Bobo of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Sherleta Wrigley of St. Louis; sisters, Joann Bobo (Avery Binion), Delores Bobo, Deborah `Diann' Bobo (Vern T. Womack) and Christine Rankins of Elgin; brothers, Theodius Bobo (Kathy Burns) of Elgin and James Williams of Toledo, Ohio; stepfather, James Chico Hill of California; uncle, Sam (Ruby) Davis of Springfield, Ill.; aunts, Izoland Elbert Anderson of Milwaukee, Wis., Melinda (Finis) Cole of St.
Louis and Mattie Davis of St. Louis; many aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews; special friend, Charlene Luftin; brother-in-law, Greg Brunt; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Linda and Deborah Bobo; uncle, St. Sterling Davis; and aunt, Martha Portee.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of the services Friday, at the funeral home.

Edmund R. Borowski, 81, of Wheeling, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999. Arrangements were made by Kolssak Funeral Home, Wheeling, (847) 537-6600.

Charles Edwin Buenzow lifelong resident of Palatine
Visitation for Charles Edwin Buenzow, 78, will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with services at 6:30 p.m., at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
Born Jan. 11, 1921, in Chicago, he died Monday, May 10, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Buenzow was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Palatine. Prior to his retirement in 1992, Mr. Buenzow had been the proprietor, along with his wife, of the Sanitary Market in Palatine. He had been involved with the market since 1948.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn W. Buenzow (nee Wente) of Palatine; sons, Bruce (Ruth) Buenzow of Folsom, Calif. and Greg (Diane) Buenzow of Homewood; and grandchildren, Lisa and Keith Buenzow, Dana and Anthony Quartana, and Brett, Trevor and Jamie Buenzow.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Buenzow and his brother, James Buenzow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul United Churchof Christ, 144 E. Palatine Road, Palatine, IL 60067.

Blanche E. Canar formerly of Des Plaines
Services for Blanche E. Canar (nee Peterson), 89, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Born Dec. 1, 1909, in Des Plaines, she died Tuesday, May 11, 1999. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Canar was an executive secretary for Des Plaines Motor Sales for 40 years.
She had been a lifelong resident of Des Plaines and member of United Methodist Church priorto moving to Black Earth.
She was the wife of the late William D. Canar; mother of George (Sally) Canar of Richmond, Va., Mary Sue (William) Lange of Madison, Wis. and the late William D. (the late Carlan) Canar Jr.; sister of the late Karl Peterson and Gladys Salman; grandmother of 11; and great-grandmother of 2.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

James E. Chartier of Palatine
Services for James E. Chartier, 67, will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Friday, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Thomas of Villanova Church.
Born Sept. 29, 1931, in Chicago, he died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Resurrection Hospital. Interment will be private.
Mr. Chartier was a retired engineer for Illinois Bell Telephone. Currently he had worked as a part-time assistant at Palatine Hills Golf Club.
He was the beloved husband of Rita Chartier (nee Clancy); loving father of James (Pam) Chartier, Kevin (Barbara) Chartier, Kathy (the late David) Molhem and Maureen (Mark) Trittschuh; dear brother of Patricia (Thomas) Foley and the late Fran (the late Frank) McGrail; and proud grandfather of nine.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be madeto St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 1152 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine, IL 60067, or to donor's favorite charity.

Michael Robert Cline formerly of Palatine
A memorial service for Michael Robert Cline, 25, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Twin Lakes Recreation Area in Palatine.
Michael died Saturday, May 1, 1999. He attended Grey M. Sanborn School, Walter Sundling Junior High School, Palatine High School and Harper College in Palatine. He was also a student at Madison Technical College in Madison, Wis.
Surviving are his parents, Bob and Marge Cline of Palatine; brothers, Jim and Joe Cline, both of Palatine; sister and niece, Kathy Cline Ullrich and Carmen Cline, both of Rockford; grandmother, Audrey Cline of Arlington Heights; and aunt, Phyllis Cline of Urbana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael Cline Memorial Fund, 1343 N. Portage, Palatine, IL 60067.
Contributions will be used to fund children's outdoor activities and their environmental education.

Alva Norma Cook of Mount Prospect
Memorial services for Alva Norma Cook (nee Hanson), 75, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at St. Raymond Church, at Elmhurst Road and Lincoln St., Mount Prospect.
Born Feb. 22, 1924, in Chicago, she died Tuesday, April 27, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Smith of Clearwater, Fla.; son, Jay W. (Karen) Cook of Mount Prospect; grandchildren, Oliver Cook, James Torres, Don (Janice) Rowley and Elizabeth (Andrew) Mallin; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 2015, Chicago, IL 60602.
Arrangements were made by Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mount Prospect.

Richard Crabb longtime resident of Wheaton
Funeral services for Richard Crabb will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, with the Rev. Don Leo officiating.
Born Jan. 20, 1911, in Wabash, Ind., the son of Carle A. and Lida (nee Milne) Crabb, he died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hinsdale. Burial will be in Wheaton Cemetery.
Mr. Crabb was a writer and journalist all his life. While attending Western Illinois University in Macomb, he worked as a regional reporter for thePeoria Star and the Quincy Herald-Whig. While still in college, he helped to found a weekly newspaper, the McDonough Times, which was eventually taken over by his family and published until 1975. After graduation from Western, hebecame farm editor of the Moline Dispatch.
For more than 20 years, he worked in advertising and was affiliated with the former Funk Brothers Seed Company of Central Illinois. He later returned to journalism, working for papers in the western suburbs of Chicago, including the Arlington Day, the Press Publications of Elmhurst, and the Elgin Courier, for which he was political editor and columnist. He was a consulting editor and columnist for the Daily Journal of Wheaton until it ceased publication in 1992.
His lifelong interest in history resulted in three books publishednationally: `The Hybrid Corn-Makers,' still the authoritative first-hand account of the development of hybrid corn; `Empire on the Platte,' the story of the Olive family of cattle barons in the Platte River Valley in Nebraska, which was chosen for a special edition for the Nebraska State Centennial; and `Birth of a Giant, ' the history of the development of the automobile up to World War II. He published articles in many national magazines and also regional publications in the DuPage County area, including `Radio's Beautiful Day, ' an account of the first fifty years of broadcasting based on the experience of veteran farm broadcaster Everett Mitchell.
He was active in promoting historic preservation in DuPage County, where he lived from 1948 to 1994. He was founder of the DuPage Heritage Gallery, which honors nationally-recognized leaders from the county, and a charter member and founder of the Wheaton History Center.
Along with Jean Moore of Carol Stream, he was named official DuPage County Historian in 1989.
As part of his work with Copley publications in the Chicago suburban area, he helped to establish a VIP program for senior citizens in the west suburban area, the first such program in Illinois to offer a discount card to seniors. The Copley and VIP organizations in turn helped to establish the Illinois Department on Aging.
In his early years in Wheaton, he served on the Wheaton Park District board and established a tennis program.

Dolorita `Rita' Dineen formerly of Barrington
Funeral services for Dolorita `Rita' Dineen (nee Raatz), 71, of Cary, and a longtime resident of Barrington, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 27 Three Oaks Road, Cary, IL 60013. She will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Rev. Robert Hess, pastor, will officiate.
Born May 5, 1928, in Chicago, she passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
Mrs. Dineen had retired from Harris Bank of Barrington and, most recently, from Wal-Mart of Crystal Lake. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cary and was a longtime volunteer at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where she received awards for service and friendliness.
Survivors include her children, Tom (Chris) Dineen of Arlington Heights and Peggy Valentine of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Hannah Toben of Lake Villa and Lee (Hank) Miller of MountProspect; brother, Bud (Norine) Raatz of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Brad, Jaime and Sean Dineen, Amy Tietsortand Katie Valentine; great-grandson, Tyler Valentine; and dear friends, Elfine and George Hansen of Cary, and Kay and Ed Jenkins of Ridgefield, Conn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas N. Dineen, whom she married Sept. 6, 1947, in Chicago; and her brother, Bob (Lois) Raatz of Palos Hills.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at Stirlen-Pieper & Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake Cook Road), Barrington.
Memorials may be made to the Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W. Highway 22, Barrington, IL 60010, or to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Casimir J. Duval
Funeral services for Casimir J. Duval will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Road), Roselle, and continue to St. Isidore Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rose (nee Trojanski); devoted father of Casimir J. Jr. (Cindy) Duval; and fond grandfather of John, Michael (Deanna), Janet and Mary Duval.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
