Robert J. Hurt of Geneva
A funeral Mass for Robert J. Hurt, 81, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva.
Born May 1, 1918, in Chicago, to Joseph and Emily(nee Pankrac) Hurt, he died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.
Robert had worked for many years as a draftsman for Dunbar-Kapple in Geneva, andalso for Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva and a member of the Anvil Club in East Dundee.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Jayne Kehoe of Kasson, Minn.; brother-inlaw, John F. Holm of Batavia; nephews, David M. (Sandra) Holm of Batavia and John V. (Linda) Holm of St. Charles; and nieces, Nancy J. (Todd) Rowley of Tucson, Ariz., Marcie Bordelon and Mary Ann (Keith) Schultz of Kasson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannette; and infant son, Gary.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, at Yurs-Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva.

R. Donald Jenkins of Crystal Lake
Services for R. Donald Jenkins, 77, will begin at 11 a.m. today, at Skaja Bachmann Funeral Home, 7715 W. Route 14, Crystal Lake, and continue with a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Rev. Aaron Brodeski will officiate.
Born Dec. 29, 1921, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Raymond J. and Ethel (nee Lauius) Jenkins, he died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Hines V. A. Hospital in Maywood. Interment will be in Windridge Cemetery, Cary.
He met, courted and eventually married Dorothy Mersinger on Oct. 11, 1952, at St. Edward Church in Baltimore.
Mr. Jenkins served in World War II as a tech/sergeant in the Army attached to the entertainment batallion. While serving with this group, he toured many of the South Pacific Islands playing his trombone with such celebrities as Jack Paar and on temporary service with the Navy Bandaccompanied Jackie Cooper, who played the drums. After the war, he played with such band leaders as Stan Kenton and Glenn Miller. He later formed his own band quartet and specialized in New Orleans Jazz. More recently his trombone could be heard with the Crystal Lake Band and the Vito Buffalo Band. He was a member and president of the American Federation of Musicians, Local Chapter #48 in Elgin. While music was his love, he paid the bills by being one of the top Sales Reps for The James B. Day Paint Company. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Survivors include his wife, M. Dorothy Jenkins of Crystal Lake; sons, D. Brad (Bonnie D. )Jenkins of Arlington Heights and Geoffrey (Laura) Jenkins of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Katy and John Jenkins, and Sean and Colin Delaney, all of Arlington Heights, and Mellisa, Jennifer, Sarah and Amanda Jenkins of Crystal Lake; brothers-in-law, Retired Army Major Eugene (Joan L. )Mersinger of Glyndon, Md. and Joseph (Joan M. ) Mersinger of Ocean Pines, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William; and sister, Virginia.
Memorials may be made to the St. Thomas the Apostle Building Fund.

Leslie C. Kijak of Palatine
Services for Leslie C. Kijak, 72, were held at 8 p.m. Monday, at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
Born Sept. 13, 1926, in St. Joseph, Mich., he died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kijak (nee Behrens); son, Michael (Janet) Kijak; grandchildren, Jamie and Shaun Kijak and Lynnette Harvey; son-in-law, Walt Harvey; and sister, Eloris Schulte.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanine Harvey.
Memorials would be appreciated to the charity of donor's choice.

Frances Maita, 84, of Bloomingdale, died Sunday, May 16. Arrangements were made by Cypress Funeral Home, Glendale Heights, (630) 653-7666.

Steven George Markowski of Naperville
A memorial service for Steven George Markowski, 39, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Calvary Church, 9S200 State Route 59, Naperville. Rev. Lou Diaz, Rev. Ron Markese and Wanda Burgund will officiate.
Born Nov. 4, 1959, in New Brunswick, N. J., he died Friday, May 14, 1999, at home. Interment will be private.
Mr. Markowski was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Trenton State College in Trenton, N. J. with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. Mr. Markowski worked in the sales field for several companies such as Union Carbide Corporation in Oak Brook, Fina Oil and Chemical Company in Chicago and AT Polymers and Films, Inc. in Naperville, as an account manager. While at Union Carbide, Mr. Markowski was granted a U. S. Patent. He most recently worked as a self-employed handy man and volunteered at Calvary Church Food and Clothing Pantry in Naperville. A devoted volunteer, he went on nine missions construction trips for Calvary Church and Habitat for Humanity over the last five years. He attended Calvary Church and Wheaton Evangelical Free Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Kay McGraff Markowski of Naperville; father, John S. Markowski of South River, N. J.; mother, Beverly Markowski of Austin, Texas; sister, Jean Markowski of Austin; brothers, John G. Markowski of Tucson, Ariz. and Paul Markowski of Costa Mesa, Calif.; in-laws, Robert and Carolyn DeGraff of Naperville; brothers-in-law, Karl (Naomi) DeGraff of Broken Arrow, Okla., Steven (Heather)DeGraff of Naperville and Thomas DeGraff of Naperville; nieces, Nancy and Christina DeGraff of Broken Arrow, and Abigail and Julia DeGraff of Naperville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Markowski's name may be made to Calvary Church Food and Clothing Pantry or Calvary Church Missions, c/o 9S200 State Route 59, Naperville, IL 60464.
Arrangements were made by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville.

Sam J. Marzullo of Wood Dale
A funeral Mass for Sam J. Marzullo, 85, formerly of Bensenville, will becelebrated on Wednesday, at St. Alexis Church.
Born Oct. 2, 1913, in Chicago, he died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at his home. Burial will be local.
Mr. Marzullo was a retired dispatcher for Jewel.
He was the beloved husband of Rose Marzullo (nee Bianco); loving father of Sam (Candyce) Marzullo and Sandra Leider; proud grandfather of Jack (Kathleen) Leider, Aaron (Kimberly) Leider, Cary (fiancee, Becky) Leider, and Sara, Kathrine, Emily and Samantha Marzullo; great-grandfather of Justin, Jack Jr., Julia and Tiffany; and dear sister of Josephine Chiaramonte.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E. Irving Park Road, Itasca.

Jeffrey J. Matter formerly of Palatine
A memorial Mass for Jeffrey J. Matter, 31, of Delavan, Wis., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Menomonie, Wis. Rev. Lyle Schulte will officiate.
Born Feb. 29, 1968, in Cudahy, Wis., the son of Donald and Mary-Lee (nee Alexander) Matter, he died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Delavan. Burial of cremains will be in the church cemetery.
Jeff grew up mostly in Palatine, graduating from Palatine High School in 1987.
He was recently employed as a chef in Delavan.
Jeff is survived by his daughters, Jessica Matter and Laura Juhnke, both of Delavan; his parents of Palatine; brother, Joseph Matter of Mountain View, Calif.; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Matter of Menomonie; and several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Alice Lorene Murrie of Elgin
Services for Alice Lorene Murrie, 78, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at Aly Funeral Home, Eddyville, Ill. The Rev. John Bailey will officiate.
Born Sept. 29, 1920, in Eddyville, to Claude and Dorcie (nee Jacobs) Barger, she passed away Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
Burial will be in Gilead Cemetery, Simpson, Ill.
Mrs. Murrie had worked as a seamstress at Elgin Mental Health Center for many years prior to her retirement. She spent many happy hours sewing and quilting and is now `busy, stitching in Heaven. ' Having fought a hard battle, `Grannie' was ready to go to God so that she might rest in peace.
Surviving are her children, Norma Faye (Kenneth) Taylor of South Elgin and Lenis (Joan) Murrie Jr. of Elgin; grandchildren, David, Dennis (Peggy) and Douglas Taylor, Sharie (Bill) Kulevich, Terrie (Paul) Bracke and Tonya Murrie; great-grandchildren, Amy and Katrina Taylor, Phillip and Kyle Bracke, and Robert and Katie Kulevich; sisters, Georgia (Ewing) Jackson, Francis (Mike) Cappalletti, Mary (Ralph) Aly, Lillian (Ben) Geisler and Linda (Bill) Killingsworth; brothers, Gaylon and Wade (Dixie) Barger; and very dear friend, Juanita Hart of South Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lenis Murrie Sr., in 1983; and sister, Claudetta Barger.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Ruth M. Novotny of Des Plaines
A funeral Mass for Ruth M. Novotny (nee Mooney) will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Stephen Protomartyr Church in Des Plaines.
Born Aug. 14, 1924, in Chicago, she died Friday, May 14, 1999, at Rush North Shore Hospital. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
A homemaker, she was the beloved wife of Robert Novotny; loving mother of Nancy R. Novotny, M. D., of Des Plaines, Barbara (Ed) Murphy of Eagan, Minn., and the late Mark Novotny; cherished grandmother of Matthew and Meghan; dear sister of Robert Mooney of Woodstock, Carol (Donald) Andrews of Barrington, and the late Marvin, Thomas and William Mooney; and dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555Lee St., Des Plaines.
Masses in her memory or contributions to donor's favorite charity would be appreciated.

Joanne L. O'Connor of St. Charles
Services for Joanne L. O'Connor, 62, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Born Dec. 29, 1936, in Elgin, she died Sunday, May16, 1999, at home. Burial will be in North Plato Cemetery, Plato Center.
Survivors include her husband, Roderick; daughter, Katheryn (Eric Trimble) O'Connor of Lolo, Mont.; son, Steve (Patty) O'Connor of Rochelle, Ill.; grandchild, Micheal O'Connor; and brother, Charles Blanchard of Aurora.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Lloyd Michael Pekelsma of Lake Villa
A memorial visitation for Lloyd Michael Pekelsma, 88, willbe held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake.
Born Sept. 11, 1910, in Chicago, he passed away Friday, May 14, 1999. Interment will be private.
Mr. Pekelsma was a 1927 graduate of Lindblom High School, and received his bachelor of science degree in 1934 and his masters degree in physical education in 1940, both from Purdue University, where he lettered in football. He served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War and in the Naval reserves. He coached the Great Lakes Blue Jackets football team in 1952. He taught and coached football at Allentown Preparatory School from 1934 to 1935, taught and coached at Bowen High School, taught and coached baseball at Chicago Vocational High School in 1973, and played professional football in Wilkes Barre, Pa. from 1934 to 1935.
Survivors include his sister, Margie Spegon; sons, Mike (Linda), Glenn and Nick (Carmen) Pekelsma; daughters, Judy (James) Pawlak and Jean (Allan) Reckamp; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Pekelsma; and daughters, Ruth and Gloria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden City Drive, Landover, MD 20785-2267.

Allen H. Peterson, 53, of Elgin, died Monday, May 17, 1999. Arrangements were made by Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, (847) 741-8800.
