Earl Lumpp formerly of Des Plaines
Services for Earl Lumpp, 91, of Bensenville, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Christ Church, 1492 Henry, Des Plaines.
Born Oct. 28, 1907, he died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at The Anchorage in Bensenville. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Mr. Lumpp had been very active at ChristChurch. He was also an avid fisherman and gardener.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Lumpp; daughters, Carol (Terry) Smith and Diane (Jerry) Boyd; grandchildren, Bret (Katrina) Smith, Gwynne (Jeff) Turk, Nicole Boyd and Michelle (Gordon) Griffith; great-grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Katheryn Turk, Connor Turk, Michael Griffith and Nathan Griffith; brother, Walter Lumpp; and sisters, Helen Raupp, Lorraine Engelhart, Gertrude Novak and Mildred Wolf.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. Friday, at Christ Church.
Arrangements were made by Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mount Prospect.

Steven George Markowski of Naperville
A memorial service for Steven George Markowski, 39, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Calvary Church, 9S200 State Route 59, Naperville. Rev. Lou Diaz, Rev. Ron Markese and Wanda Burgund will officiate.
Born Nov. 4, 1959, in New Brunswick, N. J., he died Friday, May 14, 1999, at home. Interment will be private.
Mr. Markowski was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Trenton State College in Trenton, N. J. with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. Mr. Markowski worked in the sales field for several companies such as Union Carbide Corporation in Oak Brook, Fina Oil and Chemical Company in Chicago and AT Polymers and Films, Inc. in Naperville, as an account manager. While at Union Carbide, Mr. Markowski was granted a U. S. Patent. He most recently worked as a self-employed handy man and volunteered at Calvary Church Food and Clothing Pantry in Naperville. A devoted volunteer, he went on nine missions construction trips for Calvary Church and Habitat for Humanity over the last five years. He attended Calvary Church and Wheaton Evangelical Free Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Kay DeGraff Markowski of Naperville; father, John S. Markowski of South River, N. J.; mother, Beverly Markowski of Austin, Texas; sister, Jean Markowski of Austin; brothers, John G. Markowski of Tucson, Ariz. and Paul Markowski of Costa Mesa, Calif.; in-laws, Robert and Carolyn DeGraff of Naperville; brothers-in-law, Karl (Naomi) DeGraff of Broken Arrow, Okla., Steven (Heather) DeGraff of Naperville and Thomas DeGraff of Naperville; and nieces, Nancy and Christina DeGraff of Broken Arrow, and Abigail and Julia DeGraff of Naperville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Markowski's name may be made to Calvary Church Food and Clothing Pantry or Calvary Church Missions, c/o 9S200 State Route 59, Naperville, IL 60464.

Edith McDonald of Elgin
Services for Edith McDonald will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin.
Reverend Mark Lund will officiate.
Born Oct. 15, 1913, in Elgin, she passed away Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Oak Crest Retirement Village in DeKalb. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens.
She had been employed with Toastmaster and the State of Illinois. She retired from School District U46 in 1978. She was a member of the Elgin American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, George, in 1992.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Arthur Fred Miller of St. Charles
Funeral services for Arthur Fred Miller, 87, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 950 Hart Road, Batavia, IL 60510. The Rev. Robert W. Weidler will officiate.
Born Dec. 17, 1911, in Batavia, he died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia.
Mr. Miller had been a resident of Batavia until the mid-1960s when he built a home near Elburn. For the past 28 years he had lived in St. Charles. Mr. Miller was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia. At the time of his retirement in 1976, he had been employed for 46 years as a machinist for Smith Richardson Manufacturing in Geneva.
Surviving are his stepdaughters, Joann (Jesse) Dewberry of Bromide, Okla., and Sally (Daniel) Fisk of Dix, Ill.; nine stepgrandchildren; and 20 greatstepgrandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Wilma Miller of Batavia and Judy Miller of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Miller; parents, August and Ida Miller; brothers, Frank, Harold, George and William; sisters, Ella, Mable, Mildred, Margaret and Irene; sisters-in-law, Gladys and Betty; and brothers-in-law, William Johnsen, Edgar Granskog and William Kearns.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Yurs-Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St. (Route 38), Geneva.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Russell J. Nelson of Geneva
Services for Russell J. Nelson, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St., Geneva, with the Rev. Kathy Lawes officiating.
Born Feb. 18, 1911, in Little Falls, Minn., to Carl and Anna (nee Anderson) Nelson, he passed away Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the home of his daughter in St. Charles. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Elgin, following the services.
Russell moved to Illinois as a young man and lived in the Elburn and Virgil area during the 1930s. He married the former Harriet Sturm on Oct. 18, 1941, and the couple moved to Elgin where they raised their family. Mr. Nelson was a longtime member of Carpenters Local #363 and worked until his retirement in 1975. He was also a Navy veteran, serving in World War II as a carpenters mate, and a lifetime member of Elgin VFW Post #307. He had moved to Geneva six years ago.
Surviving are his daughters, Peggy Flanagan of Maryland and Beth Nelson of St. Charles; son, John Nelson of Elgin; grandchildren, Michelle and Erin Flanagan, and Scott Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ruben, Elmer and Vern Nelson; sisters, Veda Eckerson, Augusta Henderson and Vicki Lou Nelson; and by his wife, Harriet, who passed away in 1986.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

E. Arline Peterson of St. Charles
Private graveside services for E. Arline Peterson, 90, will be heldFriday, at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia.
Born Feb. 26, 1909, in St. Charles, she died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Carrington Care Center in South Elgin.
A lifelong St. Charles resident, she graduated from St. Charles High School in 1926 and on Oct. 11, 1928, she united in marriage to Luther E. Peterson. From 1928 until 1971, they owned and operated the Luther Peterson Construction Company.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis (Robert) DeRaedt of Elburn; sons, Donald of St. Charles, Robert of Hanover Park and Richard of Lanark, Ill.; sister, Elsie Kresser of St. Charles; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur, Ernest and Gunnar Henningson; sister, Bertha Henningson; infant sister, Lillian Henningson; and an infant granddaughter.

Andrea H. `Henry' Piraro of Schaumburg
Prayers for Andrea H. `Henry' Piraro will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/ Roselle Rd.), Roselle. Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.
He was the beloved husband of Frances (nee Bua); devoted father of Maria (Richard) Cirrincione, Joseph (Vera) and Andrew (Sharon); dear brother of Rose Curcio; fond grandfather of Donna (Steve), John (Lisa), Joe, Jessica, Tony and Michael; and great-grandfather of Michael.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral chapel.

James M. Power of Palatine
Services for James M. Power, 81, a resident of Palatine since 1956, will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Theresa Church, 465 N. Benton St., Palatine.
Born July 10, 1917, in Chicago, he died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.
Before moving to Palatine, Mr. Power had lived in Chicago where he worked for the CTA. After moving, he had worked as a salesman for Hines Lumber and most recently he had been employed by Harper College. A veteran, Mr. Power had served in the Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Palatine Post 690. He was also a member of St. Theresa Church.
A devoted family man, Mr. Power loved his children and grandchildren more than they will ever know.
Surviving are his wife, Lorine D. Power (nee Prefer) of Palatine, whom he married Feb. 15, 1941; daughters, Lorine H. (Michael) Weiser of Chicago and Judith H. (Sal) DiPaolo of Chicago; son, James J. (Jean) Power of Palatine; grandchildren, Glory, Mike, Jenny, Mary, Bridget, Dominic, Marnie, Danny, and Jim, who sends his love and respect to his grandpa from Australia; great-grandson, Max; and sisters and brothers, Fran (Dan) Nikolich of Palatine, Tom (Marge) Power of Chicago, Dick (Jean) Power of Chicago and Ellen (the late Thomas) Neubauer of Palatine.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Joseph Power; and parents, Joseph and Ella Power.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Sam Ragano of Streamwood
Prayers for Sam Ragano, 82, of Streamwood, will be said at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/Schaumburg. Mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church.
Born July 31, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., he died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at home. Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy; father of Jim (Judy) of Chicago, Sherry (Ronald) Meserole of Downers Grove, Joseph (Michele) of DesPlaines, and Matthew (Patricia) of Streamwood; grandchildren, Rocco, Dawn, Carrie, Vallerie, Joseph Jr., Danielle, Michele, Melissa, Michael, Douglas, Daniel and Michael; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Stephanie; and siblings, Rose Kudla and the late Joseph, Anthony, Marie and John Jr.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

A funeral Mass for Adeline T. Ratley, 76, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin. The Rev. Michael J. Tierney will officiate.
Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Chicago, to Joseph and Helen Swinich, she died Monday, May 24, 1999, at home. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Ratley was a homemaker and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin.
Surviving areher sons, Richard Ratley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michael Ratley of Lake in the Hills; daughters, Helen (Marcus) Kuberski of Genoa and Jackie Ratley (Russell Larsen) of Marengo; grandchildren, Randi, Wendi and Ginny Kuberski, and Kristi, Ryan and Cody Ratley; and great-grandchildren, Sean, Eric, Erin and Austin Kuberski, and Tristan Scott, Jeremiah and Katrina Picurro.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Richard Ratley, whom she married July 25, 1944, and who preceded her Dec. 23, 1994; brother, Bill Swinich; and sisters, Verna, Charlotte Cwiok and Jeannette Perkins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Wait Ross Allanson Algonquin Chapel, 201S. Main St., Algonquin.
