Edna B. Evans of Gurnee
A memorial service for Edna B. Evans, 92, was held Tuesday, at The Living Well United Methodist Church in Gurnee.
Born Jan. 8, 1907, in Meeteesee, Wyo., she died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Survivors include her daughters, Joan Reese of Mundelein and Dorothy (Ercell) Londrie of Hamilton, Ill. ; grandchildren, Larry Londrie of Hamilton, Patty Taylor of New Mexico, Chris Binde of Denton, Texas and David Reese of Lake Villa; and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Kristan Funeral Home, Mundelein.

Jerome H. `Jerry' Finis of Palatine
Services for Jerome H. `Jerry' Finis, 74, will begin with prayersat 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, Ltd., 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Born July 20, 1924, in Chicago, he died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Friendship Village. Burial will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Mr. Finis had been a real estate agent in the community for more than 25 years and most recently had been employed at Starck & Company. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed by all who came to know him.
Surviving are his wife, Millie Finis of Palatine; children, Jerry E. (Nanne) Finis, Susan Finis, Nancy (Ed) Pecora, Marty (Beth Ann) Finis and P. J. (Mindy) Finis; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Katherine Studt Floyd formerly of Elgin
Visitation for Katherine Studt Floyd, 80, of Port Huron, Mich., also formerly of West Palm Beach, Fla., will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee.
Services and interment will be in West Palm Beach Memorial Park in Lantana, Fla.
Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Benton, Ill., the daughter of Earl and Hanna (nee Pederson) Huffine, she died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Marwood Manor Care Center, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Mrs. Floyd was a resident of Port Huron since 1990. She was a former longtime employee of Chicago Rawhide where she was a chief union steward for many years. She was very prominent in the labor movement.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan (Robert) McManaman of Port Huron; sons, Robert (Debra) Studt of Broadhead, Wis. and Ronald (Victoria) Studt of Carpentersville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harold Studt, in 1965, they married in 1938; and second husband, Howard Floyd (former president of Teamsters Union Local #330 of Elgin), in 1990, they married in 1975.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Dundee or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Fund.

Henrietta L. `Rita' Freudenberg of Schaumburg
Services for Henrietta L. `Rita' Freudenberg (nee Jones), 86, formerly of Bellwood, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Rd. (three blocks south of Biesterfield Rd.), Elk Grove Village.
Born in Baltimore, Md., she died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Friendship Village.
Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park.
Mrs. Freudenberg was a retired bookkeeper and a five year resident of Friendship Village. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1433, in Bellwood.
She was the wife of the late Charles F. (1979); aunt of Barbara Crase and Carol Wirth; and great-aunt of many.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Friday, at the funeral home.

Fred A. Gaardbo of Lisle
A memorial service for Fred A. Gaardbo, 61, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows.
Born March 14, 1938, in Chicago, he died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
A purchasing agent for many years, he was the father of Gregory F. (Doreen) and Paul J. Gaardbo; and brother of Anita (Daniel) Quaid and the late Rita (late Ralph) Evans.

Fidel Ghini of Highwood
Funeral services for Fidel Ghini, 85, the former mayor of Highwood, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, (just south of Old Elm Road across from Fort Sheridan), Highwood, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. James Church, 134 North Ave., Highwood.
Born July 17, 1913, in Carne, Iowa, to Alfred and Adele Ghini, he passed away Sunday, May 30, 1999, at home. Graveside services will follow Mass, in Ascension Cemetery, 1950 Buckley Road, Libertyville.
Mr. Ghini had moved to Highwood with his family at the age of 11. As a boy, he was a caddy at local golf courses and at the age of 17 he became the chauffeur, gardener and handyman for Mrs. Hetler of the Hetler Lumber Company. He graduated from the Deerfield/Shields Township school system in 1931 and later opened a restaurant-bar as well as going into the concrete business with Guido Serafini. In the 1950s he owned an excavating company and started the Hiland gas chain which grew to five stations.
Mr. Ghini's political career began in 1940 when he served as an elected alderman under Mayor Charles Portilia. In 1969 he won the mayor's seat, a position he held for six terms (24 years). Mayor Ghini never received a salary and was noted for his family approach to municiple matters and his method of cash-and-carry city financing. When he became mayor, the city had a large deficit; when he left office, the city had a surplus of 1. 7 million dollars. He also accomplished many projects and improvements, including a new city garage, a swimming pool, the remodeling of the recreation center, a new city hall and police station, a new water plant, and the purchase of property for a new city park and the Highwood Library. In 1970 he received the Highwood Man of the Year award.
In 1988, Mr. Ghini purchased a 130-acre farm in Mundelein which he began to develop in 1993, now housing the Motorola TrainingFacility, an Amoco Station and a strip mall. One of his favorite charities was Save-A-Pet, from whom he rescued his beloved dog, Rusty.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Ghini (nee Shapero) -- together they were an inseparableteam for 40 years; sister, Caroline (the late George) Moe of St. Paul, Minn. ; stepdaughter, Abbie Laursen, M. D., of Winona, Minn. ; stepson, Charles Fiterman of Deerfield; nephews, Dale `Buzz' Snavely of Mundelein; Donald Snavely of Missoula, Mont., and Dennis Snavely of Mundelein; and niece, Adelea Moe of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vincent Ghini; and sister, Eleanor Snavely.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Catherine M. Giovenco of Roselle
Services for Catherine M. Giovenco (nee Barber) will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Friday, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Road), Roselle, and continue with Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Inverness. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
She was the beloved wife of the late James Giovenco Jr. ; devoted mother of David H. Altfeld, James Giovenco III, and the late Kenneth S. Altfeld; and dear sister of Winifred Adams and Robert Barber.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral chapel.

Mary A. Herbes of Grayslake
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary A. Herbes, 89, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Gilbert Church in Grayslake.
She passed away Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at her home. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, McHenry.
Mrs. Herbes had been a resident of Grayslake since 1938. She was an election judge for more than 25 years and was also a lifelong member of St. Gilbert Church where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society.
She leaves behind her son, Ronald (Suzanne) Herbes of Libertyville; sisters, Margaret (James) Dunkelberg and Mildred Schratt; brothers, Raymond (Audrey) Eckstein, Gerald (Lee) Eckstein and John (Juanita) Eckstein; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Herbes, who passed away in 1997; parents, Charles and Clara Eckstein; and brothers, Bernard, Carroll, Norman, Francis and Robert Eckstein.
Friends and family may visit from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake.

Paul F. Hudgens of Elgin
Funeral services for Paul F. Hudgens, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.
The Revs. Michael Frantz and Robert Wisehart will officiate.
Born Oct. 18, 1908, in Union County, Ill., to William T. and Rocelia (nee Benedict) Hudgens, he died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
In 1936, Mr. Hudgens founded the Elgin Sheet Metal Company and he was a former member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union. Upon his retirement, he resided in southern Illnois for 23 years before returning to Elgin. Paul was active in community affairs, including serving on the Board of Education for Consolidated District 17. He was also a member of the Cobden Lions Club, an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Cobden, and a member of First Baptist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Ethel Hudgens; daughter, Pamela (Gerald) Koch of St. Charles, Mo. ; sons, Phillip (Patricia) Hudgens of Baja, Calif., Paul (Sarah) Hudgens of Elgin and Patrick (Deborah) Hudgens of Elgin; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne and Stanley Hudgens, both of Marion, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd, Harvey and Albert Hudgens; and sisters, Helen Hudgens, Nellie Lindsey, Maida Goddard, Minnie Popham and Orpha McAlpin.
Memorials may be given to the Mount Hebron Cemetery, 1370 Mount Hebron Road, Makanda, IL 62958.

Donald T. `Don' Kaspar formerly of Downers Grove and Lisle
Visitation for Donald T. `Don' Kaspar, 74, a resident of Plainfield since July 1997, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today, at FriedrichJones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Born Aug. 15, 1924, in Chicago, he died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at Fairview Baptist Home in Downers Grove. Interment will be private.
Mr. Kaspar grew up in Chicago and attended Faragut High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Italy, Sicily and North Africa. Married to his wife, Blossom, on Nov. 1, 1947, he and his family lived in Downers Grove from 1958 to 1977, and in Lisle from 1977 to1996. He was employed by the International Harvester Company in Broadview for more than 30 years.
Surviving are hischildren, James E. (Patty) Kaspar of Naperville and Sandra (Dwaine) Nelson of Bolingbrook; grandchildren, Donald and Andrea Nelson of Bolingbrook, and Samantha Kaspar of Naperville; sister, Lorraine (Frank) Olivarri of Burlington, Texas; and nephews, Edward Burgeson of Minnesota, Gary Vlcek of Little Rock, Ark., and Gerald (Pat) Vlcek of Hot Springs, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Blossom L. Kaspar (nee Spachman), in 1995; and parents, Edward and Rosell (nee Matous) Kaspar.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Kaspar's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, DuPage Area Office, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137; or to the Hospice of DuPage, 690 E. North Ave., Carol Stream, IL 60188-2172.

Lawrence R. Knudsen of Batavia
Funeral services for Lawrence R. Knudsen, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. The Rev. Larry Dieckman will officiate.
Born April 20, 1920, in Chicago, to Louis and Clara (nee Robley) Knudsen, he passed away Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at The Holmstad in Batavia. Burial will be in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
Mr. Knudsen graduated from Grinell College in Iowa and later earned a master's degree in musicology at Chicago Musical College and a master's degree in library science at Rosary College in River Forest. He was employed as the head librarian at the Elmhurst Library for 25 years. A veteran, Mr. Knudsen had served as a chief warrant officer in the Army during World War II.
Surviving are his brother, Wallace (Marjorie) Knudsen; sister, Audrey (Vincent) Gatch; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Doris Caron.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
