Earl Wilbur Guptail formerly of Elgin
Services for Earl Wilbur Guptail, 85, of San Mateo, Calif., will be held at noon today, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, Elgin.
Born July 12, 1913, in South Elgin, he died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in San Mateo. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Bartlett.
Employed by Roto Color in St. Charles for more than 20 years and the Elgin Courier, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin.
He was the husband of Priscilla; father of Donald, Robert and David Guptail, Judith Warns, Carol Ann Guptail and Priscilla (Ronald) Addy; grandfather of Eric, Kevin, Lisa, Robert and Michelle; great-grandfather of Chelcey; son of the late William and Minnie Guptail; and brother of the late Harold and Ellsworth Guptail.
Visitation will be from 10 a. m. until the time of services today, at the funeral home.

Ronald Guthrie formerly of Des Plaines
Memorial services for Ronald Guthrie, 65, most recently of Ringgold, Ga., will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Christ Church, 1492 Henry, Des Plaines.
Born April 17, 1933, in Chicago, he passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at his home.
A veteran, Mr. Guthrie had served in the Navy from 1951 to 1959. In 1967, he became a firefighter for the City of Des Plaines and retired at the rank of lieutenant in 1987. Upon retirement, he moved to Ringgold.
He was the loving husband of Penelope Guthrie; dearest father of Kyle (Betty) Guthrie, Trevor (Jamie) Guthrie, and Heather (Glenn) Chappell; and fond grandfather of Kimberly, K. Austin, Michael, Madelynne and Benjamin.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr.
Guthrie's memory may be made to the Des Plaines Paramedic Fund, c/o the Des Plaines Fire Department, 405 S. River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.

Ada Hanney of Palatine, formerly of Chicago
Ada Hanney (nee Henrietta Walter), 85, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Plum Grove Nursing Home in Palatine.
She was born March 20, 1913, in Chicago. After her father's death in 1926, she moved with her family to Mischendorf, Austria. She later returned to Chicago and worked in the stockyards. In 1933, she married George Hanney. After his death in 1956, she became a nurse and worked at several hospitals, including Veterans Administration Lakeside in Chicago. She moved to Onarga, Ill., in 1978, then to Plum Grove in 1993.
Surviving are her daughter, Virginia Loerzel of Palatine; grandsons, Robert Loerzel of Palatine and Richard Loerzel of Chicago; sister, Anna Varga of Austria; and nieces, Christina Marko and Anna Marie Varga, both of Austria.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, George Hanney; brother, Joseph Walter; and sister, Mary Horwath.
Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 4709 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie, IL 60076.
Arrangements were made by the Cremation Society of Illinois, Mount Prospect.

Roy G. Herhold of Arlington Heights
Services for Roy G. Herhold, 90, will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5106 N. LaCrosse, Chicago. He will lie in state from 9 a. m. until the time of services at 10 a. m.
Born Feb. 23, 1908, in Chicago, he died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999. Interment will be in St. Luke Cemetery, Chicago.
Mr. Herhold worked for Miller National Insurance for 40 years.
He was the husband of 67 years of Anne Herhold (nee Polacek); father of Jeffrey R. (Carol) Herold of Columbus, Ohio and Brent C. (Suzanne) Herhold of Palo Alto, Calif.; and grandfather of Kristin and Timothy Herold and Britt Herhold.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p. m. Friday, at Forest Glen Chapels, Zidek and Son, 5265 N. Elston, Chicago.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Alice Herod formerly of Mount Prospect
Alice Herod, 76, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in Medford, Ore., from complications due to emphysema.
Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Worcester, N. Y., she graduated from the Northwestern University School of Nursing and worked for many years as a registered nurse, primarily in private in-home health care. She had lived in Mount Prospect for 44 years before moving to Rogue River, Ore.
She is survived by her husband, Buren Herod of Medford; sister, Nancy Hinderliter of Watseka, Ill.; sons, Buren F. Herod of Barrington, Thomas Herod of Eagle Point, Ore., James Herod of Selma, Ore., and Michael Herod of Mystic, Conn.; and grandchildren, Molly Alice Herod of Eagle Point, and David and Alison Herod of Mystic.
No local services are planned. The family would appreciate a quiet moment spent in her memory.

Myrtle Iversen of Mount Prospect
Prayers for Myrtle Iversen (nee Breyer), 93, will be said at 9:30 a. m. Friday, at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Road, followed by a 10 a. m. Mass at St. Thomas Becket Church, 1321 Burning Bush Lane, Mount Prospect.
Born Oct. 17, 1905, in Chicago, she died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in Norwood Park Township.
A homemaker, she was the wife of the late Alfred Iversen and Al Finkler; mother of Marilyn (Chester) Marzec and JoAnn (Lloyd) Keplinger; grandmother of Alfred, Thomas, Nels, James, Alison and Richard; great-grandmother of Christopher, Elizabeth and Jason; and sister-in-law of Juliet Breyer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p. m. today, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred.

Clayton R. Jacobson of Ingleside
Memorial services for Clayton R. Jacobson, 73, will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake.
Rev. Lisle J. Kauffman of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Round Lake will officiate.
Born June 11, 1925, in Goodman, Wis., he passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. Inurnment will be privately held.
He had made his home in Ingleside for the past six years, and was formerly of Chicago. A veteran of the Navy serving during World War II, he retired in 1987 from Amtrak, where he was employed for more than 35 years as a Carman.
He leaves his wife, Anita (nee Mutchler); children, Katherine (Gerald) Wadzinski of Ingleside, Cindy Jacobson of Spring Grove, Ruth Deckman of Ingleside, Ann Marie (fiance Tony Keaton) Jacobson of Elmwood Park and Daniel (Angela) Jacobson of Ingleside; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Vergil (George) Hoffman of Goodman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hattie Jacobson; and 10 sisters and brothers.
Friends of the family may visit from 10:30 a. m. until the time of services Friday, at the funeral chapel.
Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association, in his memory.

Joseph `Joe' Jania formerly of Countryside
Services for Joseph `Joe' Jania, 89, will begin at 9 a. m. Saturday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a. m., at St. Irene's Catholic Church, 28W531 Warrenville Road, Warrenville, IL 60555.
Born July 2, 1909, in Chicago, he died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at home. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Justice.
Mr. Jania was born on the West Side of Chicago and grew up in Cicero. He was employed as a tool and die maker for more than 20 years with General Motors Fisher Body Division in Willow Springs and was a member of the United Auto Workers (UAW). He and his family lived in Countryside from 1959 until his retirement in 1978, and then moved to PortCharlotte, Fla. He moved back to Aurora in 1989 and was a member of St. Irene's Church in Warrenville.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Irene E. Jania (nee Wilk) of Aurora, whom he married Sept. 10, 1938; children, Joseph M. (Catherine) Jania of Lawrenceville, Ga., Diana Pierce of Naperville, Ronald Jania of Woodstock and John M. (Denise) Jania of Naperville; 12 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Fay Becvarik of Arizona; brother, Henry `Hank' Jania of Oak Brook; sonin-law, Harry Inda of Westmont; and many nieces andnephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Inda; parents, John and Mary (nee Walencik) Jania; sister, Helen Postillion; and brother, Frank Jania.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p. m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Helen D. Koelper formerly of Des Plaines
Funeral services for Helen D. Koelper, 73, of Delavan, Ill., were held Monday, Dec. 21, 1998.
Born Dec. 19, 1924, in Williamson County, the daughter of Fred and Carrie VaughnBucholtz, she died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale. Burial is in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan.
Mrs. Koelper was a member of Delavan United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, XYZ Club and was involved with the Senior Lunch Program in Delavan for several years. While living in Des Plaines, she was employed by United Motor Coach Company, West School, DoAll, DeVille Motel and Health Foods, Inc. She loved her family very much, and loved music and traveling. Her sparkling eyes and bright smile will be missed by many.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Edward) Allen; daughter-in-law, Lindy Koelper of St. Charles; grandchildren, Brandon Koelper, Joshua Allen and Sarah Allen; and brother, Elmer Jones of Leesburg, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Koelper, whom she married on June 25, 1949, in Des Plaines, and who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1997, in Hopedale; son, Tim, in 1986; one sister; and one brother.
Memorials may be made to her church.

Elizabeth L. (Torroll) Kovar of Aurora
Services for Elizabeth L. (Torroll) Kovar, 75, will be held at10 a. m. Friday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles. The Rev. John Rodgers will officiate.
Born Dec. 27, 1923, in DuQuoin, Ill., the daughter of Peter and Florence Girup, she died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Countryside Care Center in Aurora. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, St. Charles.
Survivors include her sons, Peter (Cindy) Torroll of St. Charles and Joseph (Sue) Torroll of Wheaton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Mary Ann) Girup of Florida, Glen Girup of South Carolina and John (Mary Lou) of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Jerry Girup and Peter Girup.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p. m. today, at the funeral home.
