John R. Reynolds of Gurnee
Services for John R. Reynolds, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, 305 Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Pastor Robert Barnett will officiate.
Born Feb. 1, 1920, in Curran, Ill., he died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Condell Medical Center. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and retired from Asplundh Tree Company. He was an avid lover of nature and a friend to the birds and squirrels.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; daughters, Jan (John) Peters, Cindy (Terry) Kirby, Elaine (Mike) Schlung, Anita (Jon) Bennett, Lisa (Tom) Chamberlain and Kimberely (Frank) Carmichael; grandchildren, Theresa (Joe), Russell, Tracy, Joe (Jackie), Randy, Dan, Tim, Brianna, David, Michael, Ryan, Jennifer, Ashley and Sophia; great-granddaughter, Christina; brothers, Earl (Rose) Reynolds and Kip (Mary Lou) Reynolds; sisters, Oma Castleman, Edna Mae (Jerry) Jarrard and Edith (Ed) Smith; and manynieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Daisy Reynolds.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Beverly M. Samec of Round Lake
A funeral Mass for Beverly M. Samec (nee Michaud), 69, will be held at11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 31 Park Ave., Grayslake. Fr. Joel Webb will officiate.
Born Dec. 27, 1929, in Chicago, she passed away Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Samec had made her home in Round Lake since 1953. She retired in 1997 after working as a self-employed seamstress. She enjoyed working with ceramics and crafts. She was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Grayslake.
She leaves her son, Robert (Diane) Samec of Round Lake Beach; granddaughter, Kerri Ney of Round Lake Beach; stepmother, Juanita (Bill) North of Mountain Home, Ark.; dear friend, Dena; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert G. Samec, May 14, 1968.
Friends of the family may visit from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake.

Kathryn A. Smith of Lake In The Hills
Services for Kathryn A. Smith, 44, will be held at 8 p.m. today, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake.
Born March 30, 1955, to Kenneth and Barbara (nee Wise) Smith, she died Friday, July 9, 1999, at her home. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Smith was the owner of Smith Leonard & Associates Advertising Agency of Lake In The Hills.
Surviving are her husband, Christopher Erwin, whom she married July 16, 1994, in Des Plaines; daughters, Courtney and Misty Erwin of Lake In The Hills; son, Brian Erwin of Beach Park; mother, Barbara Smith of Homewood; sister, Karen Scott of Orlando, Fla.; and brothers, Christopher Smith of Winchester, Kendall Smith of Homewood and Brent Smith of Homewood.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with services at 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Gary Dale Snyder
Gary Dale Snyder of Islamorada, Fla., died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at Mariners Hospital.
Formerly of Fort Lauderdale and Chicago, Gary was a longtime aviation consultant. He served in the Marines and was vice president of the Plantation By The Sea Condo Association.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Betty Jo Snyder; children, Kimberly Osborn of Wichita, Kan., Wayne D. and Juliet Snyder of Tampa, Billy nd Rima Witcher of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Barbara and Bob Campbell of Marathon, Fla., Brian Witcher of Tavernier, Fla., Barry Witcher of Orlando, Fla. and Jane Witcher of Tavernier; and grandchildren, Chanda, Brendt D., Kristlynn, Ryan, Leila, Emily, Christopher, David, Jason, Caitlin and Cassidy.
There was a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, at Beyer Funeral Home, Key Largo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Key Largo Baptist Church Youth Programs, 835 Largo Road, Key Largo, Fla.

James R. `Bob' Bond Sr.
A memorial service for James R. `Bob' Bond Sr. will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, in the chapel at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington.
Born Jan. 20, 1924, Mr. Bond passed away Friday, July 9, 1999.
Mr. Bond was the former owner of the Hoffman Estates Dog N' Suds and Golden Yolks Restaurants,and an employee of School District 54. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He was the husband of Margaret;father of R. Steven Bond and James R. Bond Jr.; father-in-law of Valerie and Elizabeth; grandfather of Robert, Jeanette, Kenneth, Mollie, Sean and Bobby Bond.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Willow Creek Community Church Senior Connection, in memory of Bob.

Emma Steffensen (nee Nelson), 92, formerly of Chicago and Venice Florida, died Sunday, July 11, 1999. Arrangements were made by Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, Schaumburg (847) 882-5580.

Thomas R. Sullivan of Arlington Heights
Prayers for Thomas R. Sullivan, 83, formerly of Chicago, will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Hwy., Arlington Heights. Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, 841 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
Born Jan. 18, 1916, in Chicago, he died Monday, July 12, 1999, at home. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
He was the husband of Marion (nee Folan); father of Maureen (Chuck) Boland of Naperville, Thomas (Kathy) of Des Plaines, Peggy Sullivan of Northlake, Patrick (Patricia) of Elk Grove Village and Kathy (Rick) Glenn of Hoffman Estates; brother of James Sullivan of Palatine, Margaret Jean Zacharski of Chicago and the late Edward (Mary) Sullivan; grandfather of Laura (Dave) Genovese, Heather Boland, Charles Boland, Erin Boland, Brandon Sullivan, Brian Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, Steven Sullivan, Shannon Sullivan, Ricky Glenn and Katie Glenn; and great-grandfather of Sarah Genovese and Tommy Genovese.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Carol A. Sullivano formerly of Glen Ellyn
Prayers for Carol A. Sullivano (nee Strimas), 55, of St. Charles for four years, will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd. (one block east of Naperville Rd. ),Wheaton. Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Church, Glen Ellyn.
Mrs. Sullivano was born and raised in Chicago, and died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wheaton.
A 21-year Glen Ellyn resident, she was a 1966 graduate of Loyola University with a bachelor of science in education. She was a former teacher at St. Richard Schoolin Chicago and substitute teacher at St. Petronille and St. James the Apostle Schools, both in Glen Ellyn.
She was the beloved wife of Fred; dear mother of Lynette and Brian; and devoted daughter of the late Thomas and Sophie Strimas.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday, at the funeral home.

James E. `Jim' Tym of Aurora
Services for James E. `Jim' Tym, 89, a resident of Aurora since 1995 andformerly of Elgin and Geneva, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Born March 4, 1910, in Mitchell, S. D., he died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at RushCopley Medical Center, Aurora. Interment will be private.
Mr. Tym had moved from South Dakota to Paris, Ill., at a young age. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich., and was employed for many years as an advertising salesman for several technical publications, including The Consulting Engineer and Power Engineering magazines, until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, he began a second career as an artisan wood furniture maker and started a business called Period Styling. Mr. Tym was also an avid golfer and was a former member of the Elgin Country Club and a member of the Western Advertising Golfers Association (WAGA).
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Janice A. Tym (nee Joew) of Aurora; daughters, Jane Higgins of Richland, Mich. and Elizabeth Zilke of Houston, Texas; son, Benjamin (Sue) Tym of Bridgeman, Mich.; stepchildren, Laura (Mark) Hastings of Elgin, Gregory (Cindy) Lee of Mount Prospect and Patrice (David) Cannella of Crystal Lake; 11 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and former spouse, Jane Tym of Paris, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. and Mary Bessie Tym; infant grandson, Charles Tym; and sister, Mary Margaret Kramer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Matthew Joseph Valenta of Naperville
Services for Matthew Joseph Valenta, 22, will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and continue with a Mass of ChristianBurial at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 1215 Modaff Rd., Naperville.
Born Sept. 22, 1976, in Hinsdale, he died Sunday, June 11, 1999, at his home in Seattle, Wash. Interment will be in St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield.
Mr. Valenta grew up in Naperville and attended Wheatland Grade School and Gregory Middle School. He graduated from Benet Academy where he was co-valedictorian. He also graduated from the University in Chicago with a degree in physics. He was currently at the University of Washington at Seattle pursuing a graduate degree in neuroscience.
A member of St. Raphael Church in Naperville, he served as a peer minister with the youth ministry program.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph F. and Carol A. (nee Bero) Valenta of Naperville; paternal grandmother, Josephine Valenta ofStaunton, Ill.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Valenta's name may be made to Hesed House, 659 S. River St., Aurora, IL 60506.

Hubert D. `Tootie' Walker of Libertyville
Services for Hubert D. `Tootie' Walker, 72, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at McMurrough Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville.
Born May 10, 1927, in Jonesboro, Ill., he died Saturday, July 10, 1999. Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery.
A 47-year Libertyville resident, he had recently retired from Abbott Laboratories, where he had worked for more than 45 years. He served as a non-commissioned officer in Europe with the Army during World War II. He was a member of Libertyville American Legion Post 329 and St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville.
Hubert is survived by his children, Donna (John) Brill of Dallas, Texas and Larry (Karen) Walker of Round Lake Beach; and grandchildren, Kelan, Allison and Courtney Brill, Stephanie, Brian, Steve, Larry and Kyle Walker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents, Lawrence and Mabel Walk; and brothers, Donald and Raymond.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, at the funeral chapel.
If desired, memorial contributions are requested to be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gregory T. Athas of Rolling Meadows
A memorial service for Gregory T. Athas, 84, formerly of Chicago, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3201 Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows. The Rev. Robert Giese, pastor, will officiate.
Born May 30, 1915, in Chicago, he died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at home. Interment will be private.
He was the beloved husband of Marilyn Athas (nee Godfrey); loving father of Gregory R. (Rita) Athasof Bartlett; cherished grandfather of Gregory J. (Heidi) Athas of Boston, Mass., and Heather (Thomas) Hillman; great-grandfather of Noah Gregory; dear brother of George Athas of Cicero; and fond uncle and great-uncle of many.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 3201 Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008.
