George R. Riley of Bartlett
Services for George R. Riley, 76, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, at Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd. ),Bartlett.
Born July 14, 1923, in Walnut Grove, Mo., he died Wednesday, July, 14, 1999, at St. Alexius Medical Center. Cremation will be private.
An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a member of VFW Post 5151 and American Legion Post 1212.
He was the husband of Sarah Riley (nee Guccione); father of George Jr. (Joan) Riley of Streamwood and Michael (Susan) Riley of Mundelein; grandmother of Renee Seibert, Dan Riley and Michele (Tom) Pierce; great-grandmother of Taylor and Samantha Pierce; son of the late Ked and Marilu (nee Martin) Riley; and brother of the late Weldon, Thomas, Bill, Floyd and Elsie.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

David Frederick Schmid of Naperville
A Mass of Christian Burial for David Frederick Schmid, 76, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Raphael Church, 1215 Modaff Road, Naperville. The Rev. William Donnelly will officiate.
Born June 3, 1923, in Dubuque, Iowa, he died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Edward Hospital. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton.
Mr. Schmid was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque and received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. A veteran, he served in the Army Air Force during World War II. In 1951 Mr. Schmid started teaching in Fox Lake and later was the superintendent of Grant High School in Fox Lake until1963.
He became a resident of Naperville in 1966 and worked as a consultant with Illinois School Consulting Service of Naperville. From 1984 to 1997 he was a partner with Associated Municipal Consultants, retiring in 1997 for health reasons. Mr.
Schmid was an active member of St. Raphael Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and also involved in the cursillo movement, the RCIA and prison ministry. He enjoyed family activities and card playing, especially bridge. His family will especially remember the recent celebration of the Schmids' 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner party at the White Eagle Club.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sarah Schmid of Naperville; children, David J. (Rachel) Schmid of Cincinnati, Ohio, Roger Schmid of Yorkville, Mary (Richard) Biegel of Naperville, Jane (Jon) Williams of Landisville, Pa., and Cathy (Dave) Wehrli of Yorkville; grandchildren, Margaret (Martin) Layding, David M., Sarah C., Rachel, Roger C. and Randell Schmid, John and Katie Biegel, Sarah, Mary and Annie Williams, and Michael and Daniel Wehrli; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Matthew Layding; and niece, Susan Stern of Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and O'Linda Schmid; brother, Roger Schmid; and sister, Susanne Gilligan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Emma Steffensen
Funeral services for Emma Steffensen (nee Nelson), 92, formerly of Chicago and Venice, Fla., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 119 W. Wise Road, Schaumburg, where she will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Rev. David Langseth will officiate.
Born July 23, 1906, in Kenosha, Wis., she died Saturday, July 10, 1999, in Adams, Neb. Interment will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Elmhurst.
She was the wife of the late Holger Steffensen; mother of Robert (Carol) Steffensen, Dagmar (Olaf) Ahlquist and Marilyn (Paul) Jersild; grandmother of nine; and great-grandmother of 15.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dana College in Blair, Neb., or to the Danish Old Peoples Home, 5656 N. Newcastle, Chicago, IL 60631.

Albert J. Steier Sr. of Arlington Heights
Memorial services for Albert J. Steier Sr., 85, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Lutheran Home for the Aged, (St. John the Beloved Chapel), 800 W. Oakton St., Arlington Heights.
Born July 20, 1913, in Oak Park, he died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.
Mr. Steier was a former buyer for Sears Roebuck and Company, where he had worked for 29 years. He wasalso the owner of Steier's Cycle Shop, Inc. in Lombard for 15 years.
He was the husband of Helen V. Steier (nee Hutter); father of Susan (Ian) Steier-MacNiven and Albert J. (Kathleen) Steier Jr.; grandfather of Brent (Deborah) and Eric Steier; great-grandfather of Eric Steier; and brother of Kathryn (the late Charles) Landry, Gretchen (the late Dr. George) Kotalik, Trudy (Robert) Dietsch and the late Carl Steier.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were made by Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.

Mary Tuytschaevers of St. Charles
Services for Mary Tuytschaevers, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Patrick Mission Church, corner of Bolcum and Crane Road, St. Charles.
Born July 27, 1914, in New York, she died Monday, July 12, 1999, at home. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia.
A lifelong member of the church, she is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Claude) Reed of Houston, Texas; son, Thomas of St. Charles; and sisters, Madeline Burdick of Geneva, Julie VerVynck of St. Charles and Emma (John) Gebhardt of Skokie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.

Matthew Joseph Valenta of Naperville
Services for Matthew Joseph Valenta, 22, will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and continue with a Mass of ChristianBurial at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 1215 Modaff Rd., Naperville.
Born Sept. 22, 1976, in Hinsdale, he died Sunday, June 11, 1999, at his home in Seattle, Wash. Interment will be in St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield.
Mr. Valenta grew up in Naperville and attended Wheatland Grade School and Gregory Middle School. He graduated from Benet Academy where he was co-valedictorian. He also graduated from the University in Chicago with a degree in physics. He was currently at the University of Washington at Seattle pursuing a graduate degree in neuroscience. A member of St. Raphael Church in Naperville, he served as a peer minister with the youth ministry program.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph F. and Carol A. (nee Bero) Valenta of Naperville; paternal grandmother, Josephine Valenta ofStaunton, Ill.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Valenta's name may be made to Hesed House, 659 S. River St., Aurora, IL 60506.

Milton H. Waxstein of Rolling Meadows
A memorial Mass for Milton H. Waxstein, 86, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 432 W. Park St., Arlington Heights.
Born Jan. 23, 1913, in Chicago, he died Tuesday, July 13, 1999. Interment will be private.
Mr. Waxstein was an active member of Our Lady of the Wayside Church and president of the Holy Name Society. Retired, he was vice president of sales at Garcy Corporation and designed store fixtures for major department stores.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores (nee Solodyna); children, Marcia (Leon) Moore, Martin Waxstein and Robert Waxstein; and grandchildren, William, Michael, Jenny, Madeleine and Kate.
In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations to the American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60604, are appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Smith Corcoran Funeral Home, Palatine.

Betty L. Weide of Mundelein
Services for Betty L. Weide, 66, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Kristan Funeral Home, 219 W. Maple (Route 176), Mundelein.
Born July 21, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., she died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
Survivors include her children, Virginia `Ginny' (William) Garrison of Mundelein and William (Gloria) Weide of Gurnee; grandchildren, Kevin (Carla), Kristin and Jennifer; brother, James Hopper of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Mary Alice Hopper of Bradenton, Fla.; and stepmother, Pauline Hopper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Georgia K. Westerman of Park Ridge
Funeral services for Georgia K. Westerman (nee Ashley), 65, will be held at 8 p.m. today, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Born April 5, 1934, in Kit Carson County, Colo., she died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Holy Family Hospital, Des Plaines. Interment will be in Walnut Hill, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Mrs. Westerman had attended elementary school and high school in Council Bluffs. During her career, she had worked for North American aviation, General Electric, and the ITT Corporation, and was secretary/treasurer of WHP Inc., an international building firm, until her retirement in April 1999. In addition to their time in Illinois, she and her husband, George, had lived in Germany, Florida, Nebraska, and Hawaii.
Surviving are her brother, Robert (Rebecca) Ashley of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Joyce (George) Epperson of Council Bluffs; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many dear friends. She is also survived by her longtime companion, Bernard L. Padgett of Hillside.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Westerman.
Visitation will befrom 3 to 9 p.m. today, with services at 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

Arthur A. Woodall of Elgin
Funeral services for Arthur A. Woodall, 71, will be held at 11 a.m. today,at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin.
Rev. Steve Kottke will be officiating.
Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Rockwood, Tenn., to Harvey and Florence Bryant Woodall, he died Monday July 12, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin.
He was a resident of Elgin for the past 60 years. He had been employed as an engineer with Chicago Eastern, the Brody Company and Turner Brass before retiring. Mr. Woodall wasa member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elgin and the Elks Lodge #737 of Elgin.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline Petschow Woodall; son, John Woodall of Burlington; granddaughters, Melissa and Corrine; and sister, Anna (Arnold) Ross of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James E., in 1985; sister, Ethel Hansen; andbrothers, Earl, Robert and Harvey Woodall Jr.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services today, at the church.
Arrangements were made by Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.

June J. Zellmer (nee Johnson), 76, of Downers Grove, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999. Arrangements were made by BlakeLamb Funeral Home, Lisle, (630) 964-9392.
