HARRISBURG - Mildred Susan (Turner) Gates, 74, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at her home.

Surviving are her husband, John R.; two daughters, Patricia Frailey and Susan Gates; a son, John Michael; her mother, Nellie Turner; three brothers, Lee, Bill and Bob Turner; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reed Funeral Chapel, with burial in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Barbara Kirchner

ELIZABETHTOWN - Barbara Kirchner, 74, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in Rosiclare.

Surviving are her husband, LeRoy; three daughters, Anne Vides, and Nona and Fay Kirchner; a son, Dennis; two brothers, Kenny and Bill Walters; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, with burial in Leamington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Pauline Leonberger

CARMI - Pauline (McMinn) Leonberger, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at her home.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Ann Buchanan; two sons, Butch and Troy; a sister, Etheline Brooks; eight grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell Funeral Home, with burial in White County Memorial Garden.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

May Newman

ENFIELD - May Ellen (Barton) Newman, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.

She retired in 1987, had worked at Krogers in Enfield, owned and operated Newman Grocery, was a licensed practical nurse, and she and her husband operated the White County Press and Shopper News in Carmi.

Surviving are two daughters, Erma Barton and Donna Hale; five sisters, Ruby Barger, Betty Martin, Etta Lumb, Mildred Gwaltney and Dorothy Jumper; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Enfield General Baptist Church, with burial in Enfield Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elledge Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Enfield General Baptist Church.

Flora Smith

WAYNE CITY - Flora (Mitchell) Smith, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are two daughters, Audrey Crockett and Deloris Ellis; four sons, Bobbie, Garry, Jack and Tommy; and 24 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at York Funeral Home, with burial in Garrison Cemetery in rural Hamilton County.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Byford Stewart

MCLEANSBORO - Byford L. Stewart, 63, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at his home of congestive heart failure.

He had been a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Ruth; a son, Jason; his mother, Vauda Stewart; and a half brother, Bill.

Services will be at 1 p.m Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home, with burial in Brush Harbor Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Adriaantje Bax

CARMI - Adriaantje C. (Stofberg) Bax, 80, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at her home.

Surviving are two sons, Matthys and Rudie Bax; two daughters, Adri Zieren and Nelly Smith; a brother, Bob Christian Stofberg; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Carmi, with burial in White County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses Association Hospice.

Vivian 'Sis' Belangee

ENFIELD - Vivian B. "Sis" (Vaught) Belangee, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Enfield Healthcare Center.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas Vaught, Braden Willis Jr. and Clinton Willis; two daughters, Alice Black and Vicky Russell; a brother, Clinton Vaught; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Enfield Christian Church, with burial in Enfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elledge Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Enfield Christian Church.

Thomas Greer

ELDORADO - Thomas G. Greer, 90, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital.

He was a lawn care laborer.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Wolf Creek Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home.

Veda Hawkins

FAIRFIELD - Veda Hawkins, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at WayFair Restorium.

She retired as a nurse in Wayne County.

Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte Ann Stahl; a son, Robert "Bob" Hawkins; a sister, Laura Williams; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Libby McNeil

ELIZABETHTOWN - Libby McNeil, 60, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Ridgway, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Surviving is her husband, Kenny McNeil.

Arrangements are pending at Cox & Son Funeral Home Ridgway Chapel.

Billy Pearce

OMAHA - Billy G. Pearce, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at White County Medical Center in Carmi.

Surviving are his wife, Mary (Casey); two sons, Gene and Dennis Pearce; two daughters, Lora Mae Dunn and Sue Smith; a sister, Patrecia Watson; a brother, Jim Pearce; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway.

Rayburn Dee Trover

MOUNT CARMEL - Rayburn Dee Trover, 86, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
