Drew-Zerkle

OLNEY -- LaVeta L. Drew-Zerkle, 82, Princeton, Ind., formerly of Olney, died 6:05 p.m. Monday (June 25, 2001)in The Waters of Princeton Convalescent Home, Princeton.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with Father Brant Hazlett officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens in Olney. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or the charity of donor's choice in her name.

Mrs. Zerkle was born in Pana on April 3, 1919, the daughter of Roy and Gertie Scharer McConnell. She was a homemaker and mother in addition to working as a salesperson in the family store, Drew's Radio and Appliance Store in Olney, which she co-owned. She also worked at Wabash Area Vocational Enterprises and Mount Carmel Day Care Center, was a hairdresser and owned her own salon for a few years in Robinson and was a Mary Kay beauty consultant for more than 20 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Olney, Rebekah Lodge and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She married Everette Zerkle on July 7, 1984, in Olney, where they resided until his death in 1994. Mrs. Zerkle resided at The Waters in Princeton at the time of her death.

Surviving are her son, John H. (Shirley) Drew Sr. of Olney; daughters, Jan Drew of Greeley, Colo.; Elaine (John) Hipsher and Carolyn Peach, both of Mount Carmel; Judi (Don) Hoover of Bethlehem, Ga.; stepsons, Robert Zerkle of Mascoutah; Richard Zerkle of Greenwood, Ind.; John Zerkle of Olney; sister, Dora June Hartl of Waldo, Fla.; brother, Roy (Cookie) McConnell of Windsor, Wis.; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn McChesney; twin sister, LaVene Haarbart; and brother, Leslie McConnell.

Our Mother was known by all to love life and those she met along the way. We ask you, in her honor, to join us in the celebration of her life.

Gottman

NOKOMIS -- Mary A. Gottman, 84, Nokomis, cook, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001).

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Homes, Nokomis. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial: Nokomis Cemetery.

Haney

MIDDLETOWN -- Linda K. Haney, 33, Middletown, homemaker, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Middletown United Methodist Church. Visitation: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial: Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements by: Kerrigan Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Moody

MATTOON -- Marilyn Lee Morris Moody, 73, Mattoon, former employee Gambles, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001).

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Mattoon. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon. Burial: Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon. Memorials: American Cancer Society or St. John's Lutheran Church.

Shallenberger

PANA -- Veda Shallenberger, 90, Pana, retired from Shelby Memorial Hospital, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001).

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Memorials: Pana Community Hospital Foundation for Emergency Room.

Stanford

CLAY CITY -- Linda D. Stanford, 40, Joplin, Mo., daughter of Vera Ames of Clay City, died Monday (June 25, 2001).

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial: Clay City Cemetery.

Thompson

LINCOLN -- Edward L. Thompson, 61, Lincoln, retired from Caterpillar Inc., East Peoria, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001).

Services: 7:30 p.m. Friday, First United Methodist Church, Lincoln. Visitation: two hours before services. Burial: Zion Cemetery, Lincoln, at a later date. Arrangements by: Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials: First United Methodist Church or donor's choice.

Watkins

CENTRALIA -- Kenneth L. Watkins, 87, Centralia, formerly of Olney, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001). Arrangements incomplete: Zirkle Funeral Home, Olney.

Brown

DECATUR -- William Paul Brown, 88, Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Decatur, died Thursday (July 26, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Central Christian Church. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Harristown Cemetery. Arrangements by: Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Memorials: American Red Cross, Dove Inc., Alzheimer's Association, Gorilla Foundation, Millikin University or Georgetown University.

Cliff

DECATUR -- J.W. Cliff Jr., 51, of Decatur was called home Monday (July 30, 2001) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Homegoing services will be noon Friday in New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church
with Pastor James Bond officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Walker Funeral Service and Chapel.

Mr. Cliff was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Brownsville, Tenn., to the union of J.W. Cliff Sr. and Marie Anderson Cliff. He worked in maintenance for the Decatur Housing Authority for many years. He was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish fond memories of his sons, Danny and Brandon Cliff, both of
Decatur; Randy and wife Shelia Cliff of Louisville, Ky.; brothers, L.C. and wife Ora Cliff, John and wife Wylean Cliff, Louis Cliff, all of Decatur; Bobby and wife Jennifer Cliff, Billy and wife Alice Cliff, Mark and Charles Cliff, all of Trenton, Tenn.; sisters, Mary and husband Charles Ricks and Patricia Bond, all of Decatur; Velma and husband Marvin Wilkins, Dolly and husband Wilbert Johnson, all of Trenton, Tenn.; grandchildren, Darrius, Dannisha, Christopher Cliff, Dejah Cliff and Breanna Cliff; a very special friend and companion, Lebertha Portee, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

The family of J.W. Cliff Jr. would like to give special thanks to Dr. Esparaz, Dr. Maibenco, the St. Mary's Hospice extended care unit, also the second floor staff. May God bless you all.

Dickey

DECATUR -- Willie James Dickey, 52, of Decatur died Sunday (July 29, 2001) in his home.

Services will be noon Friday in Walker Funeral Service and Chapel. Visitation will be two hours before services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard.

Mr. Dickey was born July 12, 1949, in Marianna, Ark., to Willie Dickey Sr. and Tommie Mae Brown. He was a truck driver for many years. He was a deacon of the House of Prayer under the pastorage of Elder Charles C. Freemen. He united in holy matrimony to Peggy Jean Crowder for 27 years. He was a devoted husband and father and will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his wife of Decatur; sons, Willie Dickey Jr., Anthony Dickey, Tyrone Dickey, all of Decatur; daughters, Loleetia Crowder and Michelle Dickey, both of Decatur; grandchildren, Shakemia, Anthony Jr., LaMarcshonza, Shakayla, Tyriyon, Shakira and Alyssa, all of Decatur; nieces, Melinda Walker of Illinois; Sandra James of Forrest City, Ark.; nephews, Oma James Jr., Dearnel James, Marvin James, all of Forrest City, Ark.; brother-in-law, Oma James of Forrest City, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother, one brother and one sister.

DECATUR -- Mary Lou Cadwallader, 70, Decatur, homemaker, died Sunday (July 29, 2001).

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton. No visitation. Arrangements by: Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials: to the family.
