Brown

DECATUR -- Hilda H. Brown, 85, of Decatur died 4:20 a.m. Sunday (June 17, 2001) in Manor Care Health Services Nursing Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to Manor Care/Arcadia Unit or St. Mary's Adult Day Care Program.

Hilda was born Nov. 23, 1915, in Hatfield, England, the daughter of Arthur E. Sr. and Lucy Morris Hepworth. She was a graduate of Warrensburg High School and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She had worked for A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. and was a homemaker. She married Joseph B. Brown Jr. July 19, 1942.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda and husband Jerry Sees Sr. of Long Creek; son, Larry D. Brown of Crane Hill, Ala.; sisters, Dorothy Ray and Betty Ferguson, both of Decatur; brother, Dick Hepworth of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Ron Sees of Rockford; Angie Sees of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Jerry Sees Jr. of Chandler, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Vanita Hepworth of Decatur; Lucille Hayworth of Toccoa, Ga.; many nieces, nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Mary Nell and Lucille Schumard, and brothers, Ted Hepworth and Ernie Hepworth.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Fritz and the staff of Manor Care Arcadia Unit for all the wonderful care and love they gave Hilda.

Hilda was a very loving person who always put her family first. She will be dearly missed by all whose hearts she touched.

Covey

FORSYTH -- Catherine Covey, 73, Forsyth, died Sunday (June 17, 2001). Arrangements incomplete: Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North.

Frey

DECATUR -- Wallace C. Frey, 87, Decatur, retired from Illinois Power Co., died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial: North Fork Cemetery. Memorials: Grace United Methodist Church.

Holcomb

DECATUR -- James Earl Holcomb Jr., 52, Decatur, employee of Crown Cork and Seal, died Thursday (June 14, 2001).

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Private family burial: Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials: to the family.

Mitchell

DECATUR -- Clarice Jean Mitchell, 78, of Decatur, formerly of Maroa, died Sunday (June 17, 2001) in her home with her family.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North with visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial: Maroa Cemetery. Memorials: DMH Home Health & Hospice Services.

Jean was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Fairfield, the daughter of Clyde and Mabel Brock. Following graduation from Fairfield High School, she was the society editor for the Wayne County Press. She married Elston Mitchell Oct. 12, 1941. Elston and Jean moved to Maroa in 1946, where she was very involved in actives with the Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted mother and spent many years following her sons' sports activities. She was a member of her Bridge Club since the 1950s. In 1965, the family moved to Decatur, where she continued following the activities of her sons, grandchildren and her Bridge Club. Shortly after moving to Decatur, Jean and Mitch joined Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years; sons, Elston E. and wife Joan of Bloomington; Roger and wife Diane of Flanagan; grandchildren, Todd and wife Christine of Bloomington; Kimberly, Kelli and Kristi of Flanagan; brother, Carlsen and wife Marge of Fairfield.

Jean was a cherished mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Jewell

DECATUR -- Frederick C. Jewell, 72, Decatur, taxicab driver, died Thursday (June 14, 2001).

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton. Visitation: 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Straub

DECATUR -- Edwin C. Straub, 91, Decatur, retired from social security office, died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church. Burial: East Lawn Cemetery, Bloomington. Arrangements by: Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Memorials: First United Methodist Church or Holy Family Catholic Church, Shorewood.

Hord

DECATUR -- Robbie Lee Hord, 40, Decatur, died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Graceland Cemetery.

Spaar

DECATUR -- Ruth L. Spaar, 92, of Decatur went to be with the Lord 10:40 a.m. Friday (June 15, 2001) in Fair Havens Christian Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. . Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mrs. Spaar was born Jan. 17, 1909, in Decatur, the daughter of Ora and Nellie Waymire. She worked for a short period of time at Linn and Scruggs, but most of her life was spent as a homemaker. She enjoyed flowers, crocheting, quilting, knitting and baking cookies. She was a lifelong member of Peoples Church of God and was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. She loved serving the Lord and participating in all activities with her church family. She married Vernon H. Spaar Dec. 23, 1927, and celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 1983.

Surviving are her son, Dick Spaar and wife Ruby of Holton, Kan.; daughters, Dorothy Lambert and husband Lloyd of Anderson, Ind.; Jean Drew and husband Larry of Decatur; brothers, Roy Waymire of Indianapolis, Ind.; Earl Waymire of Decatur; sisters, Alma Kinsey of Indianapolis; Ione Garver of Heber Springs, Ark.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.

Vieth

FORSYTH -- June B. Vieth, 84, of Forsyth died 9:25 p.m. Saturday (June 16, 2001) in her home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery, Latham. Memorials: DMH Home Health & Hospice Services.

Mrs. Vieth was born June 20, 1916, in Decatur, the daughter of Samuel and Alta Christopher Hebel. June liked watching the Cubs and reading books. She married James Herschel Conaty. He preceded her in death June 8, 1950. She then married Al Vieth in March 1953. He preceded her in death June 23, 1994.

Surviving are her son, Tom Conaty and wife Beth of Clinton; grandsons, Tom Conaty Jr. and wife Dawn; William Conaty and wife Trina; James Conaty; sister, Lucille McLaughlin of Cincinnati, Ohio; three great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and sons, Jerald D. Conaty and Richard Lee Vieth.

Boos

SHELBYVILLE -- Wilda Boos, 92, of Fairfield, Iowa, died Sunday (June 17, 2001) in Nelson Nursing Home, Fairfield.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Lutheran Church, Fairfield. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield. Memorials: First Lutheran Church, Fairfield.

Wilda Ogden was born Aug. 13, 1908, in Jefferson County, Iowa, where she lived all of her life. She was an active member in First Lutheran Church of Fairfield, where she was in the women's group and was a Bible study leader until recent years. She married Harry Boos in 1929 and was married 57 years until his death in 1987.

Surviving are her daughter, Eleanor Gaunt and husband Roy of Shelbyville; grandson, Bryce Gaunt, wife Becky and son, Davis of Phenix City, Ala.; grandson, Bruce Gaunt, wife Shanda and daughter Evelyn of Round Lake Beach.

Cobb

CLINTON -- Darrell D. Cobb, 78, Clinton, died Sunday (June 17, 2001). Arrangements incomplete: Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

DeMoulin

LITCHFIELD -- Frank E. DeMoulin, 86, Buchanan, Tenn., formerly of Litchfield, retired farmer, died Saturday (June 16, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Christian Church of Litchfield. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Meinschein Funeral Home, Litchfield. Burial: Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honey Bend. Memorials: Christian Church of Litchfield.

Gherardini

KINCAID -- Leo A. Gherardini, 79, of Kincaid died 3:35 p.m. Saturday (June 16, 2001) in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Rita Catholic Church, Kincaid, with Father Charles Dahlby officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, with 6:30 p.m. wake service. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.

Mr. Gherardini was born March 12, 1922, in Tovey, the son of Angelo and Tomasina Orlandini Gherardini. He retired in 1984 from Borg-Warner Corp. in Decatur, after 30 years of service. He was a World War II Army veteran and member of St. Rita Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 4446, both of Kincaid, and VFW Post 4495, Taylorville. He married Katrina Dalpoas June 28, 1948, in Kincaid.

Surviving are his wife; son, David and wife Mary Gherardini of Charleston; daughter, Kathleen and husband Larry Peterson of Taylorville; sisters, Pia and and husband Joseph Dalpoas of Kincaid; Bruna Jones of Carlyle; Olga Gherardini of Kincaid; grandchildren, Angela Peterson, Michael Gherardini and William Gherardini.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul, Itolo and Tony Gherardini.

Gossett

CHARLESTON -- Martha June Gossett, 78, Charleston, died Saturday (June 16, 2001).

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Liberty Cemetery, Hutton Township. No visitation. Arrangements by: Adams Funeral Chapel, Charleston.

Gregory

MOWEAQUA -- Joe M. Gregory, 85, Moweaqua, retired from Mississippi Valley Structural Steel Co., died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday, Macon Cemetery. No visitation. Arrangements by: Ater-Wikoff Funeral Home, Macon. Memorials: American Cancer Society or donor's choice.
