ST. ELMO -- Harold M. Wisley, 80, St. Elmo, former owner of Ralph Wisley & Sons Oil Field Construction, died Saturday (June 16, 2001).

Graveside services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Elmwood Cemetery, with military rites. No visitation.Arrangements by: Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Groves

WINDSOR -- Jessie L. Groves, 93, of Windsor died 5 a.m. Sunday (June 17, 2001) in Mattoon Health Care Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor, with the Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Ash Grove Cemetery, Windsor. Memorials: Windsor Christian Church.

She was born April 29, 1908, in Neoga, the daughter of Pearl and Susie Rockwell Plummer. She was a member of Windsor Christian Church and Ladies Aid of the church, Senior Bowling League, Effingham, and was a volunteer and key lady at Heartland Christian Village, Neoga. She married Chester Groves July 4, 1937, in Mattoon. She assisted her husband in his ministries of the Christian churches in Mason, Latonia, Elkville, Patoka, West Salem, Marshall, Toledo, Jerseyville, Griffin, Ind., and Marshall Avenue Church in Mattoon. He preceded her in death in August 1984.

Surviving are her daughter, Clara Jane Bell and husband Bob of Windsor; grandchildren, Terry Bell and wife Diane of Windsor; Barry Bell and wife Toni of Windsor; Sherry Finley and husband Jeff of Charleston; great-grandchildren, April Bell, Robin Bell, Regan Finley, Devan Finley and Katie Bell.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Hanna

FLORA -- Neva D. Hanna, 48, Flora, nurse's aide, died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: Onstott Cemetery, Xenia. Memorials: Neva D. Hanna Scholarship Fund.

Blankenship

DECATUR -- Vorris Reed Blankenship, 87, Decatur, died Saturday (June 16, 2001). Arrangements incomplete: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Spaar

DECATUR -- Ruth L. Spaar, 92, of Decatur went to be with the Lord 10:40 a.m. Friday (June 15, 2001) in Fair Havens Christian Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. . Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mrs. Spaar was born Jan. 17, 1909, in Decatur, the daughter of Ora and Nellie Waymire. She worked for a short period of time at Linn and Scruggs, but most of her life was spent as a homemaker. She enjoyed flowers, crocheting, quilting, knitting and baking cookies.
She was a lifelong member of Peoples Church of God and was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. She loved serving the Lord and participating in all activities with her church family. She married Vernon H. Spaar Dec. 23, 1927, and celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 1983.

Surviving are her son, Dick Spaar and wife Ruby of Holton, Kan.; daughters Dorothy Lambert and husband Lloyd of Anderson, Ind.; Jean Drew and husband Larry of Decatur; brothers Roy Waymire of Indianapolis, Ind.; Earl Waymire of Decatur; sisters, Alma Kinsey of Indianapolis; Ione Garver of Heber Springs, Ark.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.

Bond

DECATUR -- Edgar Bond, 69, of Decatur passed from this life 9:20 a.m. Wednesday (June 13, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Edgar was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Brownsville, Tenn., the son of Charlie T. and Levirtha Reed Bond. Edgar worked as a laborer at Wagner Castings Co. before he retired. He attended Northside Baptist Church. He married Janet Killings Aug. 4, 1998, in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife; one son; one daughter; brother, Charlie T. Bond Jr. of Decatur; sisters, Evelyn Millege of Saginaw, Mich.; Fannie M. Bond (Eddie) of Dec
atur; Gebratha Perry (Walter) of Decatur; Mazetta Maxwell (Emmitt) of Milwaukee, Wis.; Guster Latson of Decatur; Laura Bond of Decatur; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the DMH Emergency Room staff and the Decatur Paramedics.

Holcomb

DECATUR -- James Earl Holcomb Jr., 52, of Decatur died 1:58 p.m. Thursday (June 14, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital Emergency Room due to injuries from an automobile/ motorcyle accident.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Private family burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials: to the family.

James was born April 23, 1949, in Gamaliel, Ky., the son of James Earl Holcomb Sr. and Mary Matilda Taylor Tate. He was a graduate of Warrensburg-Latham High School. He worked for General Electric for eight years and later was plant supervisor at Crown Cork and Seal for 11 years.

Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Holcomb of Decatur; father of Hemidge Springs, Tenn.; mother of Decatur; fiancee, Cheryl Jenkins of Decatur; brothers, Michael E. Holcomb of Gamaliel; Troy Tate and wife Cheyrl of Warrensburg; sister, Judy E. Boyce of Enon, Ohio; granddaughter, Tanner Jade Holcomb of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Earl Holcomb III.

Jewell

DECATUR -- Frederick C. Jewell, 72, of Decatur died 6:40 a.m. Thursday (June 14, 2001) in Aspen Ridge Care Centre.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Fred was born Aug. 15, 1928, the son of George and Emma Musselman Jewell. He worked as a taxicab driver and served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the VFW, longtime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; three stepdaughters; brother, Donald Jewell of Long Beach, Calif.; aunt, Leah Ruth Jewell of Decatur; several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and Robert.

Straub

DECATUR -- Edwin C. Straub, 91, of Decatur died 8:52 a.m. Friday (June 15, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church, followed by interment in East Lawn Cemetery, Bloomington. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: First United Methodist Church or Holy Family Catholic Church, Shorewood.

Mr. Straub was born Jan. 6, 1910, in Madison County, the son of Jacob and Emma Ueligger Straub. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of the Decatur Township Board of Trustees. He was a former secretary/treasurer and program
chairman for the Decatur chapter of Rotary Club as well as district governor. He was on the Visiting Nurses Association founding board of directors. He was the district manager of Decatur Social Security Office and retired in 1967. He was a banker in LeRoy for several years, chairman of United Way Budget Committee and a longtime literacy tutor. He was an avid golfer and bridge player. Edwin served in the Army during World War II as captain on General Patton's headquarters staff. He married Frances Hawes Sept. 20, 1941, in Russell, Kan.

Surviving are his son, Fred Straub and wife Mary of Naperville; brother, Arnold Straub and wife Mary of Ellsworth; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and eight brothers and sisters.

Walker

DECATUR -- Noel L. Walker, 80, of Decatur died 3:45 a.m. Friday (June 15, 2001) in Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Monticello Township Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Burial: Monticello Township Cemetery.

Mr. Walker was born March 13, 1921, in Burnt Prairie, the son of Charles Perry and Glenna Marie Harris Walker. He served in World War II with the Air Force. He was self employed in construction and remodeling. He graduated from DeLand High School and Kans
as City School of Watch Making. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He married Dorothy Elaine Guyot June 23, 1943.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Bement; sisters, Myrtle Pierson of Monticello; Marilyn (Ed) Olivier of Decatur; brother, Leland (Betty) Walker of Champaign; a special loved one, Elaine Harrington of Glendale, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Verne Ray Walker.

Bond

ARGENTA -- Pearl Bond, 95, Staunton, homemaker, died Friday (June 15, 2001). Member: St. Michael's Catholic Church, Staunton, and St. Michael's Quilting Club. Survivors: son, James R., Staunton; daughters, Arlene Little, Staunton; Lucille Weyen, Argenta; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents, one brother and two sisters.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Staunton. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Staunton. Memorials: St. Michael's Catholic Church, Diabetes. Foundation or Staunton Area

Hord

DECATUR -- Robbie Lee Hord, 40, of Decatur died 1:55 p.m. Friday (June 15, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Robbie was born Feb. 6, 1961, in Decatur, the son of Donald J. and Janice Chenoweth Hord.

Surviving are his father of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Jackie Hord of Decatur; brother, Donnie J. Hord of Indianapolis; niece, Sara Hord of Indianapolis; nephew, Daniel Hord of Oakland, Calif.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother and brother, Ronnie.

Good

ROBINSON -- Lawrence E. Good, 70, Robinson, truck driver, died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Oblong Cemetery with military rites. Memorials: Division Scholarship or Second Division Monument Fund, Box 460, Buda, TX 78610.

Gregory

MOWEAQUA -- Joe M. Gregory, 85, Moweaqua, retired from Mississippi Valley Structural Steel Co., died Friday (June 15, 2001).

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday, Macon Cemetery. No visitation. Arrangements by: Ater-Wikoff Funeral Home, Macon. Memorials: American Cancer Society or donor's choice.
