Protzman

DECATUR -- Mildred Jean Protzman, 76, of Oberlin, Ohio, formerly of Decatur, died Nov. 28, 2001 in the Kendal at Oberlin Health Center after a long illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. in the Kendal at Oberlin, Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin. Cowling Funeral Home, Oberlin, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: the Kendal at Oberlin Residents Assistance Fund, 600 Kendal Dr., Oberlin, OH 44074.

Mrs. Protzman was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Bristol, Pa., the daughter of John and Jennie McClurkin Graham. Mildred lived in Oberlin since 1994, coming from Decatur. She was a graduate of Friends Select School in Philadelphia. She worked as a laboratory technician for Rohm & Haas Co. and Philco Radio Co. prior to her marriage in 1948. Mildred was active in civic and social organizations, including Decatur Friends Meeting (Quakers), League of Women Voters, YWCA, Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Thrift Shop, Red Cross Bloodmobile, Planned Parenthood, Governor Oglesby Mansion Board of Directors and Handweavers Guild of Decatur. She married Thomas Ferdinand Protzman in 1948.

Surviving are her son, Ferdinand Protzman, of Washington, D.C.; daughters, Ann R. Protzman of Chicago; Hanna J. Protzman of Cambridge, Mass.; one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Chupp

ARTHUR -- Eliza N. Chupp, 86, Arthur, died Saturday (Dec. 8, 2001). Member: Old Order Amish Faith. Survivors: sons, Floyd, Lovington; Melvin, Arcola; Elvin and Harvey, both of Arthur; daughters, Martha Otto, Humboldt; Lydia Palmer, Jackson, Miss.; brothers, Joel N. Schrock, Sullivan; Enos N. Schrock, Rockville, Ind.; Ben N. Schrock, Arthur; Harvey N. Schrock, Seymour, Mo.; sister, Katie N. Gingerich, Arthur; 37 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents, husband, Levi J., one daughter, three brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services: 9 a.m. Tuesday, family residence, Arthur. Visitation: before services, family residence. Burial: Otto Cemetery, Arthur.

Barnick

MASON -- Carl J. Barnick, 87, Mason, farmer, died Friday (Dec. 7, 2001). Member: St. John's Lutheran Church. Survivors: wife, Dorothy; sons, Robert, Teutopolis; Ernest, Louisville; Paul, Decatur; daughters, Dixie Stremming, Strasburg; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents, one son and one brother.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Louisville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, and one hour before services in the church. Brashear

OLNEY -- Julia Ann Brashear, 60, Olney, died Saturday (Dec. 8, 2001).

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday, Linden Lawn Cemetery, Olney. Visitation: one hour before services, Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney. Memorials: Olney Free Methodist Church or National Kidney Foundation.

Carter

ROBINSON -- Dorothy M. Carter, 73, Robinson, Crawford Electronics employee, died Saturday (Dec. 8, 2001).

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: Robinson New Cemetery. Memorials: Hebron Road Church of Christ.

Crouch

CHARLESTON -- Leona Geneva Nance Crouch, 91, of Charleston, formerly of Newton and Herrick, went to be with her heavenly Father 1:12 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 9, 2001) with her daughter and twin granddaughters by her side in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center, Coles County.

Services celebrating her life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Crain Funeral Home, Newton, with the Rev. Andrew Robinson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery, Herrick. Memorials: Herrick United Methodist Church.

Leona was born Sept. 5, 1910, in Vernon. She married the Rev. Forrest J. Crouch April 8, 1929, in Decatur. The 72-plus years of marriage showed their love and devotion to each other. To this happy union, twins Barbara Jean Ridgway and Richard Forrest Crouch were born. Mrs. Crouch served with her husband in the Southern Illinois United Methodist Conference at the following United Methodist Churches: West Liberty, Dundas, Allendale, Alma, Central City, Mount Erie, Falmouth, Rose Hill, Harmon Chapel, Sumner and Beulah United Methodist Churches. They retired from the ministry in 1973 and returned to their farm and hometown in Herrick. They moved to Newton in 1996 to be close to their daughter, Barbara Ridgway. The last six months they had spent together at Prairie View Care Center of Charleston. She was a member of Herrick United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Crouch was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She loved the people they served while in the ministry and was gifted with letter writing and sending cards of encouragement to others in need. She was a prayer warrior and wanted everyone to know her loving Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. She enjoyed reading and raising African violets.

Surviving are her husband; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Ridgway of Newton; grandchildren, Marilyn Ridgway of Charleston; Carolyn Ridgway of Whiteland, Ind.; Dean Ridgway of Pana; Twyla (Brian) Harvey of Newton; Keith Ridgway of Bourbonnais; Richard (Judy) Crouch of Elbery; Roger (Robin) Crouch and Mark Crouch, all of Mount Carmel; Leona (John) York of Lancaster; nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard F. Crouch; son-in-law, Robert D. Ridgway; grandson, Gene Ridgway; and great-grandson, Roger Crouch.

NOBLE -- W.F. "Grandpa" Muhs, 91, Noble, died Saturday (Dec. 8, 2001).

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Olney. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Olney. Memorials: St. Joseph Cemetery Fund.

SULLIVAN -- Vera Ann McMullin Price, 65, Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Sullivan, died Saturday (Dec. 8, 2001). Arrangements incomplete: McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Kramer

PANA -- Ogretta L. Kramer, 90, Pana, homemaker, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001). Member: Fillmore United Methodist Church and Ladies Club. Survivors: son, Ray, Bingham; daughters, Shirley Behrends, Brownstown; Donna Daughtry, Carole Swigert and Sharon Downs, all of Taylorville; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents, husband, Raymond, and one brother.

McKibben

NEOGA -- Robert Lee McKibben, 66, Neoga, formerly of Los Angeles, died Saturday (Dec. 8, 2001). Navy veteran. Member: United Presbyterian Church, Neoga, and Retired Teacher's Association of Los Angeles County, Calif. Survivors: wife, Sandy S.; son, Robert, Van Nuys, Calif.; daughter, Shannon Leigh Showalter, Granada Hills, Calif.; stepsons, Fred Swengel, St. Paul, Minn.; Scott Swengel, Baraboo, Wis.; stepdaughters, Cinda Payton, Brandon, Vt.; Lisa Drake, Fenton, Mo.; brother, Jack, Mattoon; sister, Beverly Myers, Hurst, Texas; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren. Cullen

DECATUR -- Loren Matthew Cullen, 75, of Springfield passed away 4:20 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2002) in Memorial Medical Center.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, Springfield, with the Rev. Rodney Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, Springfield, with 7 p.m. wake service. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate, Memorial & Tributes Program, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968 or Arthritis Foundation, Central Illinois Chapter, 2621 N. Knoxville, Peoria, IL 61604.

Loren was born July 8, 1926, in Springfield, the son of Thomas Frances and Zorah Belle French Cullen. He married Mary Kathryn Daley in 1950 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Decatur.

Mr. Cullen was employed as regional manager for Amoco Oil Co. He retired in 1985 after 36 years. He served in the Navy during World War II, receiving the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia Clasp, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button and Navy Honorable Discharge Button. He was also a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Daniel Cullen and wife Peggy of Athens; William Cullen and wife Karen of Sarasota, Fla.; Christopher Cullen and wife Elizabeth of Rochester; Shawn Cullen and wife Tammy of Springfield; daughters, Marygael Cullen and husband Jim Veselenak of Springfield; Colleen Hagenbruch and husband Steve of Peoria; brothers, Donald F. Cullen and wife Jackie of Springfield; Eldon Cullen of Palm Springs, Calif.; sister, Dona Figone of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas J. Cullen; and sister, Elaine F. Cullen.

DECATUR -- Kendall R. Fryer, 17, Decatur, Douglas MacArthur High School student, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002).

Services: noon Saturday, Church of the Living God PGT 2. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by: Walker Funeral Service & Chapel.
