DECATUR -- Melody Ann Sullivan, 68, Decatur, registered nurse, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003).

Services and burial: at a later date in California. Memorial visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Thatcher

DECATUR -- Quentin H. Thatcher, 83, Decatur, retired postal carrier, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003).

Memorial services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Memorials: Macon County Humane Society.

Tomlinson

DECATUR -- Herbert F. Tomlinson, 81, Decatur, retired from Archer Daniels Midland Co., died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003).

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with 6 p.m. Masonic services. Burial: Star of Hope Mausoleum. Memorials: donor's choice.

Ward

CLINTON -- Barbara Phares Ward, 93, of Clinton died 3:40 p.m. Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) in Crestview Nursing Center, Clinton.

Memorial services will be in March 2003. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Habitat for Humanity.

Mrs. Ward was born June 23, 1909, in Clinton, the daughter of Lloyd and Edna Jones Phares. She was a board member of the German shepherd Dog Club of America and formerly worked in research at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago. She was a member of Chapter BPEO and affiliated with Clinton Presbyterian Church. She married Dr. James Laird. He passed away in 1986. She married Kenneth Ward. He passed away in 1977.

Surviving are her children, John Phares (Suzanne Morgan) Laird of Chicago; Tim (Eileen) Ward of Lafayette, Calif.; Susan (Rich) Davis of Arkansas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Avery

HAMMOND -- Leonard "Len" Avery, 72, Hammond, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood.

Crook

BEMENT -- Lynn M. Crook, 93, of Bement died 8:12 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003) in Kirby Hospital, Monticello.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, Bement, with the Rev. Marsha Frederick officiating. Visitation was Tuesday. Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, Bement, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Bement Township Cemetery. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society.

Mr. Crook was born March 13, 1909, in Bement, the son of Jessie J. and Austie Snyder Crook. He owned and operated Crooks Bus Service in Bement for more than 25 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bement and Bement Masonic Lodge 365 AF & AM. He married Gladys Jackson on Dec. 23, 1929, in Milmine.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Donna (Walt) Jones of Decatur; granddaughters, Jani Hamilton and Patti Belcher; stepgrandaughter, Renee (Jay) Hartman; great-grandchildren, Eric (Natalie) Hamilton, Tara (Danny) Eades and Brittany Belcher; great-great-grandchildren, Haley and Jessica Eades.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers.

Dunn

LINCOLN -- Fay E. Dunn, 94, Lincoln, homemaker, died Monday (Jan. 27, 2003).

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday, Harmony Cemetery, Beason. No visitation. Arrangements by: Holland & Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Bertucci

TAYLORVILLE -- Eloise Virginia Bertucci, 76, Taylorville, cosmetician, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003).

Graveside services: 10 a.m. Friday, Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sutton Memorial Home Chapel, Taylorville. Memorials: American Legion Post 73 or St. Vincent Memorial Hospice.

Survivors: sons, Mike Bertucci, Pawnee; Doug Bertucci, Idaho Springs, Colo.; Enrico Bertucci Jr., Belleville; Dave Bertucci, Springfield; daughter, Nancy Dondero, Bulverde, Texas; nine grandchildren. Preceded by: parents; husband, Enrico; one brother and one sister.

Flynn

BETHANY -- Hazel C. Flynn, 83, Greenville, S.C., formerly of Bethany, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany.

Guidish

NOKOMIS -- Valerie M. Guidish, 80, Nokomis, retired from the secretary of state's office, died Monday (Jan. 27, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial: Rosemond Cemetery, Rosamond.

Hawley

MATTOON -- Kenneth Lee Hawley, 74, Mattoon, retired bus driver, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, Mattoon. Visitation: two hours before services. Burial: Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon.

Hostettler

INGRAHAM -- Marguerite Hostettler, 90, Ingraham, homemaker, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church, Louisville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, and one hour before services in the church. Burial: Hoosier Cemetery, Louisville. Memorials: Hoosier Church Building Fund or Olney Baptist Youth Camp.

Hunsley

NEOGA -- Thelma Bray Hunsley, 89, Neoga, formerly of Arcola, retired seamstress, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial: Long Point Cemetery, Neoga. Memorials: Robert Price Scholarship Fund or Waverly Rescue Squad, both in care of Wemple State Bank, Waverly.

Member: Christian Church, Franklin, and Order of the Eastern Star Lodge, Jacksonville. Survivors: son, James Bray, Vandalia; daughters, Neva Moore, Olney; Louise Price, Waverly; stepson, Richard Bray, Anderson, Ind.; brother, Homer Phillips, Neoga; sisters, Alma Oakley, Mattoon; Beulah Newman, Urbana; Olive Stiebner, Neoga; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents; husbands, Ellis E. Bray and Gayle Hunsley; two sons; two stepsons; two brothers; one sister and one grandchild.

Mayberry

TAYLORVILLE -- Sarah Kathryn Mayberry, 82, of Taylorville, formerly of Morrisonville, died of natural causes Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hough Colonial Home, Morrisonville, with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery. Family requests donations to Juvenile Arthritis or Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.

Mrs. Mayberry was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Morrisonville, the daughter of the late Eli Washington and Alta Mae Carlock Caulk. She was a licensed practical nurse, retiring after 30 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Morrisonville, and a graduate of School of Nursing in Springfield. She was the widow of William E. Mayberry. They were married on May 20, 1939, in St. Louis.

Surviving are her daughters, Beverly JoAnn Parker and Sandra Kay Miles, both of Springfield; son, Billy E. Mayberry of Decatur; daughter, Karen Sue Spurgeon of Taylorville; brother, Lester Caulk of Pana; sisters, Ethel Johnson of Decatur; Betty Androskaut of Milton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
