VANDALIA -- Julie Ann Greer Kay, 43, Conroe, Texas, formerly of Vandalia, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003).

Graveside services: noon Tuesday, Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation: two hours before services, Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia.

Survivors: parents, John David and Sara Elizabeth "Betty" Greer, Vandalia; husband, Jerry Kay, Houston, Texas; son, Christopher Walkup, Crosby, Texas; brothers, John Douglas Greer, Tuba City, Ariz.; David Michael Greer, Vandalia.

Lauber

CERRO GORDO -- Jeanene Kay Lauber, 51, of Cerro Gordo died 7:14 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Cerro Gordo. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials: Cerro Gordo Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Lauber was born April 23, 1951, in Decatur, the daughter of Witt Dyer and Myrtle Doss Dyer. Jeanene was a member of the Cerro Gordo Assembly of God Church. She was employed the past nine years as a pharmaceutical technician at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Jeanene graduated from Cerro Gordo High School and lived her entire life in Cerro Gordo. She married Richard A. Lauber on June 20, 1970, in Decatur.

Surviving are her husband of Cerro Gordo; daughter, Jill Hachenberg and husband Jeff of Cerro Gordo; grandchildren, Tyler and Brandon Hachenberg; sister, Virginia Hart of Mount Zion; brother, Jack Dyer of Southern; nephews, Michael Hart Jr. and family of Cerro Gordo; Tony Hart and family of Oakley; Jay Dyer of Oklahoma City, Okla.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wilbur and Katheryn Lauber of Harristown; sister-in-law, Racine Lyster of Decatur; nieces, Peggy and Shawna; nephew, Clint.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sears

WILLOW HILL -- Mark James Sears, 34, Vincennes, Ind., formerly of Willow Hill, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton. Visitation: two hours before services. Burial: Mound Cemetery, Willow Hill. Memorials: Dialysis unit of Good Samaritan Hospital or Willow Hill United Methodist Church.

Rader

MOWEAQUA -- Kenneth William Rader, 81, of Moweaqua died 10:15 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, with the Rev. Charles K. Jacobs officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with full military honors by InterVeterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Memorials: Moweaqua Ambulance Service.

Kenny was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Loami, a son of Homer and Allie Rader. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after 30 years of service. He owned and operated Raders Sporting Goods in Moweaqua for 35 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 370, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Ducks Unlimited.

Surviving are his sons, Richard and wife Penne of Snoqualmie, Wash.; Robert and wife Sheila of Lovington; daughters, JoLynn Baldwin of Champaign; Linda Allen-Ogle of Taylorville; Rhonda and husband Kip Brooks of Decatur; Brenda Johnson and Candace Schinzler, both of Moweaqua; brothers, Ernst and wife Esther of Springfield; Walter of Brentwood, Mo.; sister, Norma Jean Murphy of Pensacola, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenny was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Stepping

PANA -- Lela Roberta Stepping, 86, of Pana died 11:40 p.m. Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in Aspen Ridge Care Center.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Mound Cemetery, Pana, with the Rev. Walter B. Carlson officiating. There will be no visitation. McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Alzheimer's Association.

Mrs. Stepping was born Dec. 3, 1916, in Pana, the daughter of Joseph and Onema Vaughn Lester. She was a graduate of Pana Township High School and lived most of her life in Pana. Mrs. Stepping was a homemaker and was a member of United Methodist Church, Pana; Pana Optimist Club; and Pana Community Hospital Auxiliary. She married Philip Stepping.

Surviving are her sons, Jerry Stepping of Oreana; grandchildren, Andrea Garcia of Dallas, Texas; Phil Stepping of Chicago; friend, Karla Stepping of Pana.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; brother, Vaughn Lester; and sister, Joellyn Frizzell.

Stringer

ASSUMPTION -- William L. "Abe" Stringer, 78, of Assumption died 1:05 p.m. Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Assumption. Memorials: Assumption Public Library or National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.

Abe was born July 30, 1924, in Assumption, a son of Bud and Amelia Dechert Stringer. He owned and operated Stringer Fertilizer in Assumption and was also a farmer. He married Josephine DeBrun on Dec. 12, 1948, in Assumption.

Surviving are his wife; son, Thomas L. and wife Joan of Pana; daughters, Linda Corzine of Louisville, Ky.; Dianne and husband Tracy Waddington and Jeannie Francisco, all of Assumption; sister, Cordelia Ross of Decatur; grandchildren, Brad Francisco; Jennifer Ballard; Matthew Corzine; Nathan Corzine; Amanda Corzine; Christopher Stringer; Joseph Stringer; Alexander Stringer; Benjamin Stringer; Megan Stringer; Genevieve Rose Stringer; Mark Waddington; Emily Waddington; four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas, and son-in-law, Richard Francisco.

Abbott

DECATUR -- Albert Abbott, 75, of Decatur died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in Decatur.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation was Sunday.

Mr. Abbott was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Decatur, the son of Ira R. Abbott and Ruth Stone. Mr. Abbott attended the University of Illinois, was an Army veteran and graduated from Millikin University. He spent his career in commercial construction in Decatur and Central Illinois working with the firms of Fischer Stone, Amdal and ended his working career as chief building inspector for the city of Decatur, retiring in 1991. He married Mary Jane
Dwyer on Aug. 11, 1951.

Surviving are his wife; brother, Ira R. Abbott Jr. of LaPorte, Ind.; sister, Rosemond Clements of Rice Lake, Wis.; sons, Albert E. Abbott Jr. of Akron, Ohio; John C. Abbott of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Jane A. Prust of Hilton Head, S.C.; nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Miriam, and brother, Robert.

Bartlett

DECATUR -- Willard Friedrich Bartlett, 95, of Decatur died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) in his daughter's home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Memorials: St. Mary's Life Enrichment Center.

Mr. Bartlett was born Nov. 22, 1907, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Bert and Louise Friedrich Bartlett. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Bartlett owned and operated Golden Glaze Donuts for 13 years. Mr. Bartlett was a member of East Park Baptist Church and in later years attended Faith Baptist Church with his daughter. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He married Marjorie Arthington on March 30, 1950. She preceded him in death Feb. 20, 2001.

Surviving are his daughter, Debra Ames and husband Don of Dewittsville, N.Y., their children, Danielle Kicher and husband Michael of Pittsburg, Pa; Darci of Greenville, S.C.; DJ and Dixon of Dewittsville; daughter, Barb Henry and husband Ron of Clayton, Mich., their children, Caleb of Ontario, Calif.; Matthew and wife Rachel of Austin, Texas; Hope of Arlington, Va.; Seth, Joy; and Patience of Clayton; daughter, Vickie White and husband Roger of Decatur, their children, Adam and wife Eunice of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Andrew of Nederland, Colo.; Alan of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, parents and one sister.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to St. Mary's Life Enrichment Center, Moncia Ray, Bev Fink, Dr. Dennis Costerison and St. John's Hospice. You met a tremendous need in our lives, " Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40.

Gholson

DECATUR -- Charlotte Gholson, 90, Decatur, homemaker, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003).

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, New Salem Baptist Church. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Hayes

DECATUR -- Mabel Hayes, 86, Decatur, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honeybend. Arrangements by: Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes.

Julius

BLUE MOUND -- Virgil O. Julius, 69, Blue Mound, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Ater-Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. Visitation was Sunday. Burial: Mount Auburn Cemetery. Memorials: Mount Auburn United Methodist Church or Blue Mound Rescue Squad.

Berg

DECATUR -- Norma Lee Cameron Berg, 71, of Decatur went to be with the Lord and her husband Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation will be noon until services. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery. Memorials: to the family. She requested no flowers.

Mrs. Berg was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Orchardville, the daughter of Fred and Ethel Cunningham Cameron. Mrs. Berg was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a devoted mother and wife. She married Eldon G. Berg in 1956. He preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1995.

Surviving are her children, William Berg and wife Mary, Vicky Berg Ross, Eldon Ricky Berg and fiancee Susan Cooper, all of Decatur; sister, Roselee Taylor of Florida; grandchildren, Erica Dawn Mackling and husband Greg, Ashley Nicole Harminson and husband Oly and Jacob Daniel Berg and girlfriend Krystal Robling, all of Decatur; Erin Beth Walker and husband Chris of Joliet; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Cole Mackling and Rhiannon Nicole Harminson, both of Decatur; former daughter-in-law, Paula S. Berg McCoy of Decatur; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, two brothers and one child.

We truly miss Aunt Ruby. Remember our Mom as a caring, helping angel from Jesus. To the world she may have been one person, but to one person she may have been the world. She truly was to us. Thank you, Jesus, for making heaven her home, and to all the doctors and nurses who cared for her, especially Dr. Dale Jones, Dr. Tann and Dr. Snyder, special friends, Debra and Mona and her best little buddies, "Lukey and Begger."
