Hoelting

DECATUR -- Verna Mae "Skippe" Hoelting, 70, of Decatur died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home with 4 p.m. vigil prayer service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mrs. Hoelting was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Auburn, the daughter of Irving T. and Annie E. Coates Leach. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Auxiliary and a 23-year member of Friends of Dr. Bob and Bill W. She worked as the office manager for J. Hoelting Produce. She married Jerald Hoelting on Aug. 29, 1953, in Taylorville.

Surviving are her husband; mother of Taylorville; daughters, Jill D. Hoelting of Anchorage, Alaska; Ann E. Collins and husband Marty Steindl of Springfield; brother, Irving Leach Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and son, John Bradford Hoelting.

Kiernan

DECATUR -- Thomas A. Kiernan, 96, of Decatur passed away 6:50 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) in Fair Havens Christian Home.

Services will be noon Monday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck BumGardner officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials to East Park Baptist Church or Fair Havens Christian Home.

Mr. Kiernan was born Nov. 9, 1906, in New York City, N.Y., the son of Patrick and Anna Gilroy Kiernan. He was very proud of being a veteran of World War II, serving as a foot soldier in Europe from February 1942 to October 1945. He was awarded an honorable discharge and earned four Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was in the first wave of soldiers to storm the beaches of Normandy. He retired from York Division of Borg-Warner Corp. in 1970. He was a member of East Park Baptist Church, American Legion Post 105 and the Moose Lodge. His favorite hobbies were dancing, listening to music and woodworking. He married Irene Carlton in November 1945. He married Loveta Thompson Cherry on April 23, 1977, in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife, Loveta; stepdaughters, Mary A. Wright and husband Allen of Decatur; Barbara J. Buchanan and husband Russell of Bluefield, Va.; four stepgrandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; three great-great-stepgrandchildren; niece, Ann Gress and husband Jack of Bristol, Pa.; three great-nieces, three great-nephews and two cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas P. Kiernan; daughter, Marion B. Kiernan Daniels; brother, Patrick Harry Kiernan; one sister-in-law; one stepdaughter and five half brothers and half sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fair Havens Christian Home for their caring and compassion.

Heiland

DECATUR -- Juanita W. Heiland, 87, of Decatur died 8:14 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Monday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with 4:30 p.m. vigil prayer service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial: Decatur Memorial Hospital or Greater Decatur YMCA.

Mrs. Heiland was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Clinton, the daughter of Edward and Lydia Woodcock. She was employed in the admitting office of Decatur Memorial Hospital from 1960 to 1981. In 1983, she became a member of the Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as president. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and chairman of the blood drive for Our Lady of Lourdes. She married Shelly Heiland on March 26, 1940. He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1982.

Surviving is her son, Terry Lee Heiland of Decatur.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Morton

DECATUR -- Robert Lee Morton, 88, Brandon, S.D., father of Donald Morton, Decatur, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Saksa Mateer Funeral Home, Edwardsville. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Friedens Cemetery, East St. Louis. Memorials: Edwardsville Senior Citizens Center or Edwardsville Township Senior Center.

Riley

DECATUR -- Andrew L. "Andy" Riley, 53, of Decatur and Gulf Shores, Ala., died Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2003) as a result of a fishing accident in the Gulf of Mexico.

Memorial services will be 8 p.m. Monday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with visitation two hours before services.

Andy was born Feb. 5, 1949, in Decatur, the son of Myrle and Elinore Miller Riley. Andy worked at Dunlap Nursery in Blue Mound and had a tremendous passion for fishing and gardening. He married Barb Grissom on July 5, 2002.

Surviving are his wife; brothers, Dan Riley and wife Mary Ann and Mike Riley and wife Laura, all of Decatur; sisters, Nancy Phillips and husband Rodney of Decatur; Debbie Nicholls of Forsyth; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Patrick; and infant sister, Patricia.

Andy will be greatly missed by his wife, family and many friends.

Chiligiris

DECATUR -- Elizabeth Chiligiris, 37, Decatur, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes.

Roberts

DECATUR -- Marilyn June Roberts, 69, Decatur, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home.

Thompson

DECATUR -- Gertrude L. Thompson, 85, Decatur, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Weaver

DECATUR -- Chelsea Jeanette Weaver, 81, Bloomington, formerly of Decatur, died Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2003).

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation was Friday. Burial: Harristown Cemetery. Arrangements by: Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials: St. Patrick Catholic Church Restoration Fund.

Bosley

MATTOON -- Kenneth Wilbur Bosley, 92, Kirkwood, Mo., formerly of Mattoon and Effingham, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Private family services were Friday. Arrangements by: Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon.

Emmons

OLNEY -- Kenneth L. Emmons, 71, Bridgeport, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial: Crest Haven Cemetery, Claremont, with military rites. Memorials: Calvary Baptist Church, Olney, or American Red Cross.

Endsley

SHELBYVILLE -- Neva Dean Endsley, 82, of Shelbyville died 4:50 a.m. Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) in Shelby Manor.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lockart & Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Revs. Mark Sanders and Darrel Hinkel officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden. Memorials: Shelby Christian Church or donor's choice.

Mrs. Endsley was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Lakewood, the daughter of Andrew and Neva Graven Fultz. She was a member of Shelby Christian Church and formerly a member of First Christian Church in Cowden. She married Maynard Endsley on March 8, 1941, in Morganfield, Ky. He preceded her in death April 21, 1999.

Surviving are her sons, Gary Endsley and wife Lola of Lakewood; Ron Endsley of Cowden; daughters, Sandra Gates and husband Gary of Temecula, Calif.; Renda Bryant and husband Randy of Lafayette, Ind.; grandchildren, Carla Moon and husband Richard of Lakewood; Jeffery Endsley and wife Karyn of Boling Brook; Keith Endsley and wife Jenn of Edgewood, Md.; Tyler Wheeler of Mode; Krista Bryant and Shane Bryant, both of Lafayette; Sean Gates of Temecula; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Moon and Darby Moon, both of Lakewood.

She was preceded by her parents; husband; brothers, Estol Fultz and Carol Fultz; and sisters Essie Linscott and Eloise Risley.

Benton

WEST YORK -- Beverly Ann Benton, 50, West Fork, Lexel Corp. employee, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Hutsonville Christian Church, Hutsonville. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until one hour before services, both in Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville. Burial: Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville. Memorials: American Cancer Society or Relay for Life.

Carlen

TOLEDO -- Robert A. "Bob" Carlen, 78, Toledo, Walker Construction Co. employee, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Barkley Funeral Home, Toledo. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials: Robert Carlen Memorial Fund in care of the family.

MATTOON -- Mildred Carsell, 89, Mattoon, formerly of Shelbyville, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Lockart & Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

Friesland

NOKOMIS -- Charles R. Friesland, 77, Nokomis, retired from secretary of state office, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Burial: Nokomis Cemetery with military rites. Memorials: Pana Hospital Foundation and Nokomis-Witt Area Ambulance.

Gable

VANDALIA -- Jo Ann Gable, 62, resident of Rosewood Care Center, Peoria, died 1:55 a.m. Jan. 10, 2003, in Rosewood.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in Salem Lutheran Church, Peoria, with the Rev. Steven Barnes officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore. Wilton Mortuary, Peoria, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Salem Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Gable was born April 16, 1940, in Vandalia, to Thomas and Verneal Lola Holmes Carroll. She worked in marketing for SAM's Club for 15 years and retired in 2002. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Women of Moose Chapter 673, Pekin, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her daughters, Angela Gable of Tampa, Fla.; Stephanie Dever of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren.

Huffman

MIDLAND CITY -- Pauline B. Huffman, 76, Midland City, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial: McClimans Cemetery, Hallsville. Memorials: Pauline B. Huffman Memorial Fund.
