Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandalia. Visitation: one hour before services in the church. Burial: Union Cemetery, Vera. Arrangements by: Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. Memorials: Alzheimer Association, in honor of Carl's wife Dorothy, Union Cemetery of Fayette County or donor's choice.

World War II Army veteran. Survivors: wife, Dorothy; daughter, Barbara Mason, Vandalia; sons, Larry Eckhardt and John Eckhardt, both of Vandalia; Richard "Dick" Eckhardt, Altamont; Kenny Eckhardt, Brownstown; brother, Kenneth Eckhardt, Effingham; sisters, Helen Gordon and Darlene Denning, both of Vandalia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Preceded by: parents; one son; one brother.

Elston

KINMUNDY -- Ruby Marie Elston, 76, Collinsville, relatives of Peoria, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003).

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Neal Funeral Home, Kinmundy. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy. Memorials: Heartland Hospice.

Goodbred

PEKIN -- Alesa R. Goodbred, 39, of Pekin, died 4:59 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) in Pekin Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Visitation was Monday. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Pekin. Memorials to an educational fund for her sons at South Side Trust and Savings Bank, 118 Cole Street, East
Peoria, IL 61611.

Alesa was born Dec. 4, 1963, in Pekin, the daughter of William D. and Janet K. Worlow Barbee. She was a 1982 graduate of Pekin Community High School. Mrs. Goodbred worked for Midwest Oil Co. in East Peoria for 22 years in clerical and bookkeeping service, last working in June of 2001. She had attended Faith Baptist Church in Pekin. Mrs. Goodbred enjoyed making crafts. She married Robert Goodbred on May 11, 1996, in Bartonville.

Surviving are her husband; mother and stepfather, Janet and John Ledbetter of East Peoria; father of East Peoria; sons, Jacob Allen Goodbred and Jayson Andrew Goodbred, both at home; brother, Jeffery D. (Julie) Barbee of Pekin.

Her grandparents preceded her in death.

Patton

MONTROSE -- Paul Everett "Moses" Patton, 69, Montrose, retired carpenter, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Meinhart-Neal Funeral Home, Effingham. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: St. Rose Cemetery, Montrose. Memorials: donor's choice.

Harnack

SULLIVAN -- Wilma L. Harnack, 81, of Sullivan died 4:05 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, with her family by her side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Gromley officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials: American Heart Association.

cs143Wilma was born July 12, 1921, in Norris City, the daughcster of William and Annabele Healy Austin. She was raised by her stepmother, Clara Forrester Austin. She was retired from Brach Candy Co., Sullivan. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sullivan. She married James W. Pool on July 7, 1940. He preceded her in death June 24, 1969. She then married Marshall "Mart" Harnack on April 23, 1977.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Jan Coslow of Sullivan; Nancy Smith and husband Calvin of Charleston; Joy Spelman, Gail Craycroft and husband Mark, all of Sullivan; brother, Lee Austin of Lovington; sister, Elsie Jackson of Lovington; stepson,
Alan Harnack and wife Judy of Sullivan; grandchildren, Crystal Sparks of Mattoon; Kurt Sparks and wife Lisa of Greenup; Darrin Pool and wife Keri, Jason Pool and wife Jennifer, all of Sullivan; Leann Wendell of Farmer City; stepgrandchildren, Jay Harnack and wife Samantha of Ramsey; Jeff Harnack of Sullivan; Dennis Coslow and wife Beth of Lovington; David Spelman and wife Adriana of Arcola; 12 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jim Pool; three brothers and three sisters.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by those who loved her.

Harris

CLINTON -- Glenna M. Harris, 91, Clinton, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton. Memorials: First Christian Church, Clinton.

Member: First Christian Church, Eagles Auxiliary and Elks Auxiliary. Survivors: daughters, Lois Dillow and Shirley Weikel, both of Clinton; sister, Faye Blue, Clinton; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents; husband, Carl; eight brothers and sisters; one grandson.

Johnson

FLORA -- Earl G. Johnson, 85, Flora, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

Watson

ST. ELMO -- Revis T. Watson, 74, Collinsville, formerly of St. Elmo area, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003).

Graveside services: Maplewood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by: Kessel Funeral Home, St. Elmo. Memorials: St. Elmo American Legion.

Branyan

ASSUMPTION -- Leland Ralston Branyan, 88, a lifelong resident of Assumption, died 6:45 p.m. Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption, with the Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Visitation was Monday. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption. Memorials: First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Branyan was born April 8, 1914, in Assumption, the son of Alexander and Alice Brown Branyan. He was a member of Assumption United Methodist Church and farmed in the Assumption area until his retirement in 1984. He married Hazel May Long on March 7, 1936. They had five children. Hazel preceded him in death in 1957. He married Mildred G. Mathias of Moweaqua in 1962. They spent many happy years together buying and selling antiques, restoring and driving their Model T Ford in parades, attending steam engine and Whizzer bike shows and spending winters in Fort Meyers, Fla. Leland was a member of the Farm Bureau, a charter member of Vintage Motor Bike Club, and a member of Prairie State Model T Club and five investment clubs in Assumption and Moweaqua.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Janae Weinhold of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Marla Rose of Assumption; Sharon Golden of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Janet Branyan of Assumption; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ervil; sister, Lois; first wife; sons, Richard and James Leland; stepson, Terry Mathias and one grandson.

Smith

SULLIVAN -- Wayne H. Smith, 93, of Sullivan died 4:45 a.m. Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) in Eastview Terrace, Sullivan.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, with Pastor Ron Thomas officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with 8 p.m. Masonic rites. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials: American Diabetes. Association.

Wayne was born June 23, 1909, in Moultrie County, the son of John and Sarah Kirkendol Smith. He was a retired real estate and insurance agent of Sullivan. He was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Crystal Chapter 39, George A. Sentel Masonic Lodge 764, Bloomington Consistory, and Ansar Shrine, Springfield. He married Doris M. Graven on Aug. 26, 1932. She preceded him in death Nov. 19, 1999.

Surviving are his son, Kenneth W. and wife Joyce C. Smith of St. Charles; grandchildren, Karrie Erdman and husband Scott; Alaine Smith Bussler and husband Zane; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Erdman.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Leota Low and Lela Tiberi; and brother, Dale Smith.

Kuzel

SPRINGFIELD -- Edith Gentile Kuzel, 82, Springfield, formerly of Chicago, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee. Visitation: 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, and one hour before services in the church. Burial: Mount Emblem, Elm Hurst.

Survivors: sons, Ted of Mount Zion; John of Chicago; Henry of Springfield; Frank of Carpentersville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents and husband, Theodore.

Triplett

FLORA -- Mary L. Triplett, 79, Flora, homemaker, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Christian Church, Flora. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, and one hour before services in the church. Burial: Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Memorials: Oil Belt Christian Service Camp.

Adams

MOUNT ZION -- Helen Jane Elizabeth Adams, 86, of Mount Zion died 10:04 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2003) in McKinley Court Nursing Home.

Private family services will be in Faith Lutheran Church, Sullivan. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Alzheimer s Foundation.

Helen was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Helena, Mont., the daughter of Charles and Alice Lindsey Adams. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her children, Shirley Buff and husband Leno of Mount Zion; Stephanie Janik and husband Mike of Evergreen Park; Sandra Caplan and husband Bill of Granada Hills, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Dean

DECATUR -- Russell A. "Tony" Dean, 53, Decatur, died Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home.

Doddek

DECATUR -- Arthur E. Doddek, 85, of Decatur died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) in Decatur.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Wray Offerman officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.

Arthur was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Oakley Township, the son of Adolph and Minnie Kimmiski Doddek. Mr. Doddek worked in shipping and receiving for Swain and Myers Restaurant Supply, and then as a rug cleaner for Gentry's Rug and Carpet Cleaning before retiring in 1989. Arthur proudly served our country in the Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, VFW Post 99 and DAV Post 17. Arthur married Opal J. Satterlee-Schepper on Oct. 15, 1949, in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Carol (Robert) Gruber of St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Richard (Neita) Doddek of Decatur; sisters, Ruth Gentry, Mary Ann Hahn and Mildred Doddek, all of Decatur; granddaughter, Cheryl Gruber of St. Louis, Mo.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Gremmels

DECATUR -- Jason Louis Gremmels, 18, of Decatur, made his transition on Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) in his home.

Private graveside services will be in DuQuoin on Wednesday. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Unity Church of Decatur, followed by a potluck luncheon in Fellowship Hall. Searby Funeral Home, DuQuoin, is in charge of arrangements.

Jason was born Feb. 27, 1984, in Denver, Colo., the son of Annette and Louis Gremm
els. Jason attended St. Teresa High School, where he was an honor roll student, graduating in 2002. At the time of his death, he was attending Millikin University as a pre-med freshman.

Surviving are his mother, Dr. Annette Gremmels; stepfather, Dr. Dennis Johnson; sister, Ashley Gremmels of the home; sister, Pam Gremmels of Mahomet; brothers, Dave (Jenny) Gremmels and Kent (Lisa) Gremmels, both of Alabama; five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Gremmels and maternal grandmother, Delores Reed.
