DECATUR -- Roy C. Stine, 94, of Decatur passed away 3:02 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Harvest Christian Center with Pastor Kirk Henneberry officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mr. Stine was born Feb. 25, 1908, in Brownstown, the son of Mark and Maude Cook Stine. He was a retired brick mason and a member of Harvest Christian Center. He married Freda Seidner on April 28, 1934.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Delores Slater and husband James of Auburn, N.Y.; sister, Emma of Vandalia; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Harold was born July 27, 1919, in Decatur, the son of Chester and Mamie Thatcher. He was awarded the Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart for his service during World War II and was a retired letter carrier for the city of Decatur. He married Eva Marie Pogue.
Surviving are his wife; son, Richard Thatcher of Boise, Idaho; grandsons, Michael and Bradley; granddaughter, Anne MacConnell; three great-granddaughters, all of Idaho; brother, David Thatcher of Decatur; sister, Shirley Rozanski of Decatur.

Mrs. Samson was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Taylorville, the daughter of Charles L. and Nellie Richardson Southard. She was a retired secretary from Prairie Farms Dairy in Decatur. She was a member of the Moose Club. She married Bobby Harlen Samson on Nov. 21, 1953, in First Baptist Church, Taylorville.
Surviving are her husband; sons, Randy and wife Ellen Samson, Richard and wife Debra Samson and Steven and wife Tammy Samson, all of Taylorville; Danny and wife Olivia Samson of Pueblo, Colo.; daughters, Janet and husband Stanley Gordon, Sandy and husband Gary Rexroad and Roberta Dillon, all of Taylorville; grandchildren, Tammy and husband Kevin Kater; Missy and husband Rick Baker; Jeremy Gordon; Shawn Rexroad; Chris Rexroad; Gary Rexroad Jr.; Matthew Samson; Stacy Samson; Bonnie Christian; Beau Alberts; Jesse Mollet; Robby Dillon; Richard Samson Jr.; Robert Samson; Deanna Samson; Jacob Samson; Aaron Samson; and Derek Samson; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester and wife Sharon Southard of Blue Mound; Don and wife Jackie Southard of Foley, Ala.; Bob and wife Barb Southard of Taylorville; 37 nieces and nephews.

TOWER HILL -- Lester J. Schmitz, 67, of Tower Hill, died 10:04 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) in Pana Community Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana, with the Rev. Don J. Roberts officiating. Rosary will be 5 p.m. Friday in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, with visitation immediately following until 8 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. Mr. Schmitz was born July 27, 1935, at home in Shelby County, the son of Winand and Ludvina Nold Schmitz. He was a graduate of Tower Hill School and lived his entire life in the Tower Hill area. He was an
Army veteran. He owned and operated Schmitz plumbing for 40 years; prior to that he worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 10 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and traveling. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He married Joyce M. Hielscher on June 27, 1959, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; children, Kathleen Klein and husband John of Rosamond; Susan Beeson, Joseph Schmitz and wife Cynthia, Judith Schmitz and William Schmitz and wife Lisa, all of Pana; grandchildren, Eric, John, Brooke, Kirk, Candis, Carlee, Christian, Jillian, Matthew, Rebecca, Bradley, Cody, Quinten and Chelsea; great-grandchild, Haley; brothers and sisters, Clarence Schmitz of Oconee; Eugene Schmitz of Tower Hill; Raymond Schmitz of California; Rosemary Huttes of Pana; Leland Schmitz of Rosamond.

DECATUR -- Kenneth W. Foley, 81, of Decatur died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).
Private graveside services were held in Graceland Cemetery

Mr. Foley was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Potomac, the son of R.B. and Bertha Hatfield Foley. Mr. Foley served in the Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Following his discharge, he attended the University of Illinois, where he majored in finance. He also attended Eastern Illinois University, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree. He completed a course in urban land economics and was awarded a certificate of real estate from the University of Tennessee. He retired from Illinois Power Co., where he was employed as a real estate specialist. He married Amy R. Child on Aug. 30, 1960.
Surviving are his son, Ken Foley Jr. of St. Joseph; daughter, Debra Horn of St. Joseph; sister, Mary Elkins of Hurst, Texas; brother Robert of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.
