EFFINGHAM -- Agnes M. "Aggie" Nuxoll Cohorst, 85, of Island Grove died 11:15 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in her home.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Island Grove. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Meinhart-Neal Funeral Home, Effingham. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorials: St. Joseph's
Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Cohorst was born Feb. 4, 1918. She married Norbert Cohorst on Oct. 27, 1948.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Kay (Dennis) Gatchel of Decatur; sons, Tom (Janis) Cohorst of Cary, N.C.; Tim Cohorst of Island Grove; Bob (Sally) Cohorst of Effingham; sister, Sophie (Bud) Althoff of Effingham; granddaughters, Cara Gatchel; Beth, Katie and Sara Cohorst; grandsons, Tony and Andy Cohorst.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

ALTAMONT -- Shannon Thilker, 24, Altamont, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont.

VANDALIA -- Otha "Dale" Brown, 68, Vandalia, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).

Knollenberg

COOKS MILLS -- Edith O. Knollenberg, 92, Temple City, Calif., formerly of Cooks Mills, died Jan. 30, 2003.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon. Visitation: noon until services. Burial: Humboldt Township Cemetery.

Uhll

TAYLORVILLE -- Mary Elizabeth Uhll, 83, Taylorville, formerly of Stonington, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) in Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, with Pastor Joel Lahr officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials: Christian County Senior Citizens or American Cancer Society.

Mary was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Christian County, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Bilyeu Hodges. She was a retired machine operator for Sangamon Card Co., where she was employed for 37 years. She married Merle Robert Uhll on Nov. 30, 1957. He preceded her in death April 21, 1965.

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Fae Hodges of Stonington; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents; husband; brothers, Otis, Earl, Matt, Howard, Frank, Homer and Vern Hodges; sisters, Ollie Elsie Renfrow and Amy Mildred Townsend.

VanDorn

TUSCOLA -- Barbara VanDorn, 70, Tuscola, formerly of Newman, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola.

McCleary

CLINTON -- Kenneth Ray McCleary, 90, Clinton, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton. Memorials: First Christian Church, Clinton.

Ferchow

EFFINGHAM -- Esther Agnes Voelker Ferchow, 90, Effingham, formerly of Altamont, died 11:35 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in Lakeland Health Care Center, Effingham.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, and one hour before services Sunday in the church. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Altamont. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Parish Hall Building Fund or the donor's choice.

Esther was born in rural Bethlehem near Altamont on Aug. 31, 1912, the daughter of August and Anna Kirchhoff Voelker. Esther was a homemaker and a communicant member of Immanuel Lutheran Church since her marriage. She baked pies for Lucky Strike Lanes for many years and baked wedding cakes and pies for family and friends. She married Walter John Ferchow on Oct. 13, 1940, by the Rev. Kenneth Frankenstein in Immanuel Lutheran Church. Walter
Ferchow preceded her in death April 20, 1977.

Surviving are her son, John Richard and wife Jan Ferchow of Effingham; daughter, Gloria Jean and husband Joseph Cerasuolo of Scotia, N.Y.; brother, Gilbert and wife Esther Voelker of Washington, Mo.; sister, Irene Alwerdt, and brother-in-law, Clarence Stuemke, both of Altamont; grandson, Jason Cerasuolo of Scotia; several nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Arthur and wife Anna Voelker; Herold Gustav Voelker; Herold Franz Voelker; Edgar Voelker; one infant brother; sisters, Louise and husband Martin Rath; Lorna Stuemke; Hulda and Laura Voelker in infancy; brother-in-law, Wilbert "Bert" Alwerdt.

Primmer

DELAND -- Paul F. Primmer, 88, of DeLand passed away 4 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in his family residence.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Trigg & Calvert DeLand Chapel with the Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in DeLand Cemetery with military rites. Memorials: Paul F. Primmer Memorial Fund.

Mr. Primmer was born Dec. 9, 1914, the son of Thornton and Lou B. McKee Primmer. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1932. He was assistant manager for H.M. York Grain & Lumber since 1934. He entered the Army in 1943, completed basic and special training in Camp Edwards, Mass., and Long Island, N.Y. He went to Europe in June 1944, where he was radio operator and combat telephone linesman with Battery B 135th AAA Gun Battalion. He earned four Battle Stars through 11 countries and the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in January 1946 and was partner with H.M. York after returning. He operated grain elevators in Lodge, White Heath and Caldwell. He was on the school board at Lodge and White Heath and was one of the original members of the Merit Commission for the Piatt County Sheriff's office. He served on the Advisory Committee for Public Aid and also worked with Civil Defense. He leased elevators in 1953 and went to farm one of the Hursh farms in DeLand. He retired from farming in 1982. He served all offices in Lincoln Post 102, DeLand American Legion. He was commander with District Commission and received a 50-year plaque in 1997. He served on DeLand Fire Department and the DeLand Town Board. He served as an extra man with the state Highway Department for eight years. Paul married Beulah Baker on Oct. 6, 1938, in White Heath.

Surviving are his wife; children, Terre (Alta) Primmer of Jacksonville, Fla.; Paula Ann (Werner) Meier of Oak Park; Cheryl Lou (Mitchell) Marovitz of Vienna, Va.; grandchildren, Jennifer Meier, Andrew Meier and Jeffrey Marovitz; brother, Lyle Primmer of White Heath.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; four sisters.

Kirby

ST. ELMO -- Clifford Samuel Kirby Sr., 85, of St. Elmo, left us at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Liberty Christian Church, Brownstown, with Ian Stamps officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorials: Fayette County Hospice, American Cancer Society or donor's choice.

Mr. Kirby was a retired farmer and semiretired carpenter. He was a member of Local 634 of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for many years. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He
spent many hours in his wood shop, creating treasured family heirlooms, the most special being cradles for his great-grandchildren. He leaves us these heirlooms along with many happy, treasured memories.

Surviving are his wife, Iva; sons, Sam Kirby Jr., St. Elmo; Wayne Kirby, Calvert City, Ky.; daughters, Jean Locke, Pana; Janet Ireland, St. Elmo; Lois Brozio, Decatur; Lana Sefton, Brownstown; brothers, Nobel Kirby, Wheeler; Paul Kirby, Effingham; sisters, Elsie Beccue, Altamont; Edith Lamb, Martin, Tenn.; Geneva Quinto, Lyndon Station, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Peggy; grandson, Jeffrey; sister, Thelma; brothers, Alonzo and Allen.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the hospice, nurses, doctors, family and friends for all their care, love and support during Clifford's illness.

Price

LERNA -- Beatrice D. "Bea" Price, 88, Lerna, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, Mattoon. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cooks Mills.

Spencer

PARKVILLE -- Hubert Weston Spencer, 93, Parkville, barber, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial: O'Bryan Cemetery, Sadorus.

York

TUSCOLA -- Norman Wendell York, 94, Murphysboro, formerly of Tuscola, died 9:20 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in Saint Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro.

Services will be 7 p.m. Friday in Crawshaw Funeral Home, Murphysboro, with the Rev. Tom Hobson officiating. Visitation will be two hours before services. A memorial service for Mr. York and his wife, Jessie Mae, who died Nov. 18, 2000, will be 11 a.m. Saturday in First Christian Church, Tuscola. Graveside services for Mr. York will follow.

Norman was born April 16, 1908, in Chrisman, the son of Fred and Edith L. Bishop York. He began his career working in the Tuscola Deep Water Ice Co., delivering ice. Later, he managed a dairy, where he enjoyed making his favorite food, ice cream. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa. Upon his return from the service, Norman worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, delivering mail on city and rural routes. He enjoyed carrying mail to friends and neighbors in Tuscola. In recent years, living in Murphysboro, he made many good friends and was well-known for his warmth, wit and upbeat humor. He married Jessie Mae Keeney on Dec. 27, 1929, in the First Methodist Church. She preceded him in death Nov. 18, 2000.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Sue York of Murphysboro; grandchildren, Cindy and Brian Camden of Murphysboro; Gail and Paul Frangoulis of Snellville, Ga.; Paul and Dara York of St. Peters, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Mindy Belcher of Law-renceville, Ga.; Rachel York, Sarah York and Jacob York of St. Peters; Kelli Frangoulis of Snellville; sister, Jean Easton of Hindsboro; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ruth Wolverton and Elizabeth Cassens.

Norman "PaPaw" was a wonderful grandfather and dearly loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love of them and the inner strength it gave him has been his guiding light over the past few years.

Bass

BLUE MOUND -- Ruth Olive Bass, 73, Blue Mound, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Neal

DECATUR -- Stevie Michael Neal, 45, of Decatur passed from this life Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) in Springfield Memorial Medical Center.

Homegoing services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Church of the Living God PGT Temple 3 with Bishop Calvin Peppers officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Stevie was born Aug. 31, 1957, in Decatur, the son of Robert and Lillie Walker Neal. He graduated from Eisenhower High School and worked for a short period at Wagner Castings Co. He attended the Church of the Living God PGT Temple 3. A very strong man, Stevie fought a long and hard battle with kidney failure for 20 years.

He leaves not to mourn, but to cherish fond memories, his one and only daughter, Angel (Juan) White of Decatur; mother; sisters, Dorothy Mae Donelson and Wanda (Antoine) Dotson, all of Decatur; brothers, Robert (Lisa) Neal Jr., Curtis Neal, Wallace Neal and Gary Neal, all of Decatur; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

The family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to the Kidney Dialysis Center on Wood and McKinley streets, the staff on 5B and 2E at Springfield Memorial Medical Center and the nephrologists, Dr. Mitra, Dr. Meta, Dr. Tamis, Dr. Kha and Dr. Weaber of Springfield Memorial Medical Center, for giving our loved one 20 years of great care.

Daddy, I miss you already. I wish you wouldn't have left, but I know you're free. Love, your daughter, Angel.

Foley

DECATUR -- Kenneth W. Foley, 81, of Decatur died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).

Private graveside services were held in Graceland Cemetery with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. There was no visitation. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Decatur Memorial Hospital Home Health Care or Provena Covenant Hospice Program, 1400 West Park St., Urbana, IL 61801.

Mr. Foley was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Potomac, the son of R.B. and Bertha Hatfield Foley. Mr. Foley served in the Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Following his discharge, he attended the University of Illinois, where he majored in finance. He also attended Eastern Illinois University, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree. He completed a course in urban land economics and was awarded a certificate of real estate from the University of Tennessee. He retired from Illinois Power Co., where he was employed as a real estate specialist. He married Amy R. Child on Aug. 30, 1960.

Surviving are his son, Ken Foley Jr. of St. Joseph; daughter, Debra Horn of St. Joseph; sister, Mary Elkins of Hurst, Texas; brother, Robert of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.

Shull

DECATUR -- Aundrea Fae Shull, 13, Decatur, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur. Burial: Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials: to help pay for arrangements, Rochelle D. Boline, Garfield Estates, 3611 Garfield Ave., Decatur, IL 62526.
