NEWMAN -- Edith L. Hopper, 91, of Newman, formerly of Villa Grove, died 4:48 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003) in Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Joines Funeral Home, Villa Grove, with the Rev. Brent Phillips officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Pesotum. Memorials: Pesotum United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hopper was born April 8, 1911, in Cumberland County, the daughter of William and Effie Jackson Reynolds. She was a homemaker and loved to cook. She married Virgil Hopper on Oct. 26, 1928, in Jasper County. He preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1967.
Surviving are her sons, Donald Hopper of Chula, Mo.; Lyle Hopper of Macon, Mo.; daughters, Vera Maase of Savoy; Ruth Emberton of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and her husband.

PANA -- Clara Logsdon, 93, of Pana died 6:45 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Private family burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Herrick. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Clara was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Shelby County, the daughter of John Thomas and Alamedia Bland Denton. She was a homemaker. She married Joseph Logsdon on Oct. 27, 1934. He preceded her in death April 28, 1990.
Surviving are her son, Thomas Logsdon and wife Gayle of Sugar Hill, Ga.; daughters, Patricia DeClerck and husband John of Safety Harbor, Fla.; Sharon Bowman and husband Chal of Decatur; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.

ST. ELMO -- Thomas Jean "T.J." Yockey, 80, of St. Elmo, formerly of Decatur, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Mr. Yockey was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Courtland M. and Nora Ferguson-Yockey. He was an
Army veteran, receiving three bronze battle stars and an honorable discharge in 1945. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He received his law degree from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He had a private law practice in Newton and later was a 4th Judicial Circuit judge in Jasper County. He served as the field representative for the Veterans Administration in 1964 and until his retirement in 1985. He was the assistant state's attorney for Macon County. He married Mary Ruth Davis on May 11, 1963, in Decatur. They moved to St. Elmo in 1998.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Courtland Eugene and wife Noriko Shimizu of Newark, Del.; David Francis and wife Susan Yockey of Arlington, Va.; George Michael and wife Wymoi Yonzon-Yockey of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Nora Mary-Jane Yockey and partner Damond Gallagher of Brooklyn, N.Y.; granddaughter, Sydne Nikkol Yockey of San Diego; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Mills Davis of St. Elmo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Pearl Eugene Davis; and infant brother, Richard Yockey.
