Allen-Merlo

MOUNT ZION -- Opal Marie Allen-Merlo, 91, Mount Zion, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation: 10:30 a.m. until services. Burial: Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials: Heritage Manor Nursing Home or donor's choice.

Brosamer

DECATUR -- Vivian Shofner Brosamer, 67, Decatur, died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Calamello

DECATUR -- Anthony M. "Tony" Calamello, 87, of Westerville, Ohio, formerly of Decatur, passed away Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003).

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday in Central College Presbyterian Chapel, Westerville. His remains will be buried in Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville. Arrangements are by Hill Funeral Home, Westerville. Anyone wishing to make a memorial, send to Columbus Jazz Orchestra, 31 Warren St., Columbus, OH 43215, in Tony's name.

Tony was born April 25, 1915, in Decatur. After graduation from St. Teresa High School, he traveled with big name bands from 1932 to 1946. He brought his New York band to Central Ohio in 1946 and played many gigs in this area until 1986. In addition, he and his wife, Virginia, owned Tony's Music & Gifts, first in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and then in Westerville, until they retired in 1986.

Surviving are his brother, Paul Calamello of Dalhart, Texas; nephews and nieces, Mark Tomaci, Toni Tomaci, Mary Ann Ryle, Mara Ott and Ty Garner, all of California; Sherlynn Kerstein of Chicago; Cy Garner and Larry Newhouse, both of Florida; Sylvia Newhouse of Columbus, Ohio; Claudia Vetesy of Germany; sister-in-law, Jackie Calamello of Decatur; cousins, Joan Sea, Virginia Bruamster, Frank Scardello and Peter Scardello; many special friends, Wendell and Karen McCurdy, Naldo Monaco, Ralph, Mary, Jason, Jamie and Melissa Ulbrich, Bob and Janet Weaver and Jerry White.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia; parents, Ben and Mary Calamello; brother, Nick; and sisters, Rose and Lena.

Harvey

DECATUR -- Gene E. Harvey, 66, Decatur, died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes.

Jones

DECATUR -- Fern O. Jones, 80 of Decatur, passed away 9:05 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) in her home surrounded by her family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: DMH Home Health Care or Second Church of God.

Fern was born on Nov. 6, 1922, in Champaign, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Grace Abbott Bird. She was a meat cutter and packer for Kauffman Eastern Packing and Bond Poultry. She was a member of the Second Church of God. She married Edmund Jones on Dec. 24, 1939, in Salem, Ind.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years; son, Edmund "Rick" Jones and wife Cheri L. of Decatur; daughters, Patricia A. Scroggins and husband Ray of Mount Zion; Deborah D. Lynch and husband Jim of Blue Mound; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; numerous special family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and six sisters.

Fern enjoyed crocheting and making crafts. The family would like to give special thanks to DMH Home Health Care and Dr. Esparaz and Dr. Bilyeu and their staffs for all of the loving care and support that they gave Fern and her family.

Livingston

DECATUR -- Myrtle F. Livingston, 99, Danville, formerly of Decatur, died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Miller

DECATUR -- Loren Harold Miller, 78, of Paxton, formerly of Decatur, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) in Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Fairlawn Cemetery with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Parkinson's Foundation.

Loren was born March 8, 1924, in Decatur, the son of Herman and Erma Chris Miller. He was a truck driver for the city of Decatur. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He married Mildred Bullard on Sept. 6, 1983. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2001.

Surviving are his son, Loren Eugene Miller and wife Terrie of Paxton; daughter, Nancy Elaine Grant of Decatur; stepdaughter, Debbie Markham and husband Neil of Florida; sister, Opal Lowe of Bethalto; grandchildren, Tammy Miller, Kristi Miller, Lindsey Miller, Joseph Smith and Kevin Smith; great-grandchildren, Tyranny Metcalf and Tyana Metcalf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one sister.

Ott

DECATUR -- Lena Ann Calamello Ott, 78, of Alameda, Calif., formerly of Decatur, died Jan. 31, 2003, in Alameda. Lena peacefully passed while surrounded by her loving family. The cancer she had been fighting finally claimed her.

No services are planned. Arrangements are by Alameda Cremations Inc.

Lena was born March 2, 1924, in Decatur, the daughter of Mary and Benjamin Calamello. She had three brothers, Tony, Paul and Nick and one sister, Rose.

Surviving are her brother, Paul Calamello of Texas; a great number of cousins; sister-in-law, Jackie Calamello, who she truly loved. She was blessed with six children who all are still living, Sherylin Kerstein of Illinois; Cy Garner of Florida; Ty Garner of California; Mara Ott of California; Rick Ott of Illinois; Jay Ott of Florida; 12 loving grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Lena enjoyed life as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be truly missed. However, Mom, you will always hold a special place in our hearts. You will be forever loved. Kisses and Hugs!

Shull

DECATUR -- Donald Eugene Shull, 78, of Decatur, died 2:05 p.m. Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials: to the family.

Donald was born April 8, 1924, in Monticello, the son of John and Lulu Sybil Whitton Shull. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran. He was a switchman for Illinois Central Railroad for 17 years. He was a custodian for Sullivan and Blue Mound school districts. He owned/operated Shull Janitorial Services while employed at the Decatur Professional Building. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Mary Lou Reedy on Aug. 14, 1949, in Mattoon.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Lu (Rick) Bruns of Decatur; sons, Frank (Doreen) Shull of Englewood, Fla.; Rob (Beth) Shull of Decatur; grandchildren, Shawn (Amber) Davis; Tanya (Joe) King; Stephanie Shull; Colton and Caitlin Hart; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Haley and Joey King; stepgrandchildren, Kelly, Angela, Laura, Jason, Brandon, Jameson, Cameron and Christian; great-stepgrandchild, Casey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sid; and granddaughter, Aundrea Fae Shull.

Strozier

DECATUR -- Lillie Strozier, 81, Decatur, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Walker Funeral Service and Chapel.

Thomas

DECATUR -- Warren Thomas, 55, Decatur, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003).

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Church of the Living God CWFF. Visitation: one hour before services in the church. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by: Walker Funeral Service and Chapel.

Wilder

DECATUR -- Louvern Wilder, 65, Decatur, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Church of the Living God Temple 1. Visitation: one hour before services in the church. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by: Walker Funeral Service and Chapel.

Stuckey

DECATUR -- Josephine T. Stuckey, 97, of Decatur died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Mrs. Stuckey was born April 14, 1905, in Gilsenkerchen, Germany, the daughter of Valentine and Rose Polofski Zielinski. She came to America in 1911. She married Francis A. Stuckey in Decatur in 1925. She and her husband were one of the founders of Decatur Plating Co. She worked as a secretary and office clerk before retiring. She was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Surviving are her son, William J. Stuckey and wife Lona of Decatur; daughters, Mrs. Edward (Margaret Mary) Gist of Shelbyville; Mrs. John (Elizabeth Rose) Blair of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.

Thompson

DECATUR -- Clarence A. Thompson, 91, of Champaign passed away 11:55 a.m. Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) at home.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church of Champaign with the Rev. Malcolm Nvgren officiating. A private family burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Champaign. Mittendorf-Calvert Funeral Home, Champaign, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Don Moyers Boys and Girls Club or First Presbyterian Church Kings Club International.

Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Girard, the son of Macpherson and Bertha M. Drum Thompson. He was a lieutenant in the Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a lumber and building material distributor of Champaign and Decatur, entering the Thompson Lumber Co. business in 1933 to 1995. He was a developer of land, currently Thompson Land Co., successor to above. His past activities included Lumber Dealers Research Council (National Organization) chairman from 1948 to 1960, National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association 1969, Manufacturers Council of NLBMDA 1970, National Building Materials Exposition, Illinois Lumber and Materials Dealers Association, Building Research Advisory Board of the National Academy of Science and National Research Council, Washington D.C. He was also president of the Champaign YMCA, president of the Champaign Country Club, director of the Chamber of Commerce of Champaign, one of the founders of Don Moyers Boys and Girls Club, Boys Club of America-National Association, Forest Products Industry Economic Council, director of First National Bank, director of Commercial Bank and Champaign Rotary Club. He associated in the development of 21 subdivisions in Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Decatur, Sidney and Savoy. He graduated from Urbana High School and received a B.S. College of Commerce from the University of Illinois. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign.

Surviving are his sons, Michael H. of Champaign; John M. of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Cynthia Thompson Green of Champaign; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Aderman

LINCOLN -- Mary Aderman, 77, Lincoln, painter, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003).

Services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Visitation: 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. Burial: Zion Cemetery, Lincoln. Memorials: American Heart Association or American Diabetes. Association.

Anthony

LOUISVILLE -- Alyvia K. Anthony, infant daughter of Kraig Anthony and Nichole Willison Anthony of Charleston, S.C., died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) in Trident Hospital, North Charleston, S.C.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Red Brush Christian Church, Louisville, with Brother Dusty Elmore officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Red Brush Cemetery, Louisville. Arrangements are by Neal Funeral Home, Louisville.

Alyvia was born Oct. 7, 2002, in South Carolina.

Surviving are her parents; grandparents, Michael and Tammy Anthony of Kenai, Alaska; Justin Willison and Rita Poe of Louisville; Theresa Willison of Wheeler; great-grandparents, Emma Jean Anthony of Colorado; Gene and Pauline
Willison of Louisville.
