Harvey

DECATUR -- Gene Edward Harvey, 66, of Decatur went to be with his Lord 5:20 p.m. Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) in his home, with his family by his side.

Services will be noon Saturday in First Church of God in Christ, with the Rev. Matthew Allen officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Memorials: First Church of God in Christ.

Gene was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Decatur. He was the second of two children born to the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Harvey. He attended Decatur public schools and was a 1956 graduate of Decatur High School (Stephen Decatur). He was the first male African-American to graduate from Decatur Practical Nursing School in 1959. He worked as a licensed practical nurse until his call for military duty. He served his tour of duty in the armed forces as an Army medic and a Spanish/English translator. He later met and married Ms. Bobbie Jack of East St. Louis. To this union, two children were born. While an employee at Lincoln State School for the mentally disabled, he continued his pursuit of education for more than 20 years, earning degrees in sociology and psychology from Richland Community College. He later transferred to Adolph Meyer Mental Health Center, where he worked until his retirement. Gene accepted the Lord at an early age and enjoyed singing and playing the piano for the church choir. He was an active and faithful member of First Church of God in Christ until the decline in his health.

Surviving are his parents; children, Donald Wayne Harvey and wife Lorena; Terry Lynette Harvey-Maxwell and husband Bill; grandchildren, Lyndsi and Ashley Maxwell and Sheena Harvey; sister, Velma Rogers and husband, the Rev. Charles Sr.; aunts, Mary Beals and Delores Ridley; nephews, the Rev. Charles Rogers Jr. and wife Leisa; Corey Rogers and wife Diana; great-niece, Sharon Rogers; great-nephews, Shandon Rogers; Shauon Rogers and Corey Rogers Jr.; a host of cousins and friends.

Wilder

DECATUR -- Louvern Wilder, 65, of Decatur died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) in her home.

Services of farewell and tribute will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Living God Temple 1, with Pastor John Jewitt III officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Louvern was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Brownsville, Tenn., the daughter of Horris and Verda Lena Comage. She formerly worked at the Chinese Tea Garden.

She leaves not to mourn, but to cherish fond memories, sons, Tommy Wilder Jr. and Ronnie Wilder, both of Decatur; daughters, Oretha McKinney of Springfield; Darlene Shelley of Decatur; brothers, James (Carolyn), Jimmie (Norma), Moses and Robert L. Comage,
all of Decatur; Roosevelt Comage of Bloomington; Leslie (Gladys) Comage of Chicago; Albert (Tonya) Comage of Sacramento, Calif.; Otis Comage of Brownsville, Tenn.; sisters, Ruby (Robert) Howard, Pearlie Taliaferro and Josephine Warren, all of Decatur; Ernestine Comage of Peoria; nine grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, three sisters and one brother.

Burns

MONTICELLO -- Thelma Burns, 81, Monticello, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003).

Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Monticello Township Cemetery. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, Bement. Memorials: Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Member: First Christian Church of Monticello. Survivors: son, Robert T. Burns, Farmer City; daughter, Linda Kirkland, Brentwood, Tenn.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents; husband, Thomas; one brother.

Cheesman

HUTSONVILLE -- Michael D. Cheesman, 51, Hutsonville, self-employed general contractor, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial: Hutsonville Cemetery.

Curran

CERRO GORDO -- Gerald Nevell Curran, 75, of Cerro Gordo died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003) in Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Brethren, Cerro Gordo. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the church, with 8 p.m. Masonic services. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, with military rites by Cerro Gordo American Legion Post
117. Arrangements are by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Memorials: Church of the Brethren or Cerro Gordo Ambulance Service.

Mr. Curran was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Cerro Gordo, the son of Roy Willard and Eva M. Hendricks Curran. He retired from farming in 1981 and retired from PPG in 1989, after 29 1/2 years of service. He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Cerro Gordo Masonic Lodge 600 AF & AM and Cerro Gordo American Legion Post 117. He was also an Army veteran, having served from 1945 to 1947. He married Mary Louise McClure on June 17, 1950, in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife; children, Brenda K. Hayes and husband Bill of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Terry Dale Curran and wife Jo Ellyn of Cerro Gordo; Darin Lee Curran and wife Trenda of Sugar Hill, Ga.; Susan Tyree and husband Rick of Jasper, Ala.; grandchildren, Nikki Cornish, Brett Hirsch, Alicia Hirsch, Dustin Curran, Zachary Curran, Miranda Curran and Noah Curran; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Degner

LOUISVILLE -- Gavin Joseph Michael Degn
er, infant son of Anthony J. Degner and Rebecca Linder Degner of Virginia, passed away Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) in his home.

Services will be 8 p.m. Saturday in Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, with Brother Randy McDonald officiating. Visitation will be two hours before services. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Louisville. Memorials: SIDS Foundation.

Gavin was born Nov. 19, 2002, in Virginia Beach, Va.

Surviving are his grandparents; Cheryl and William Degner of Hord; Charles and Debra Linder of Flora; great-grandparents, Frank Wascher of Louisville; Marlene and Kenneth Linder of Muscatine, Iowa; Donna and Edward Schiele of Woodruff, S.C.; Robert and Evelyn Degner of Rockford; aunt, Samantha Linder of Flora; uncle, Christopher Linder Camp of Lajune, Calif.

BROWNSTOWN -- Floyd L. Durbin, 91, Brownstown, retired Shell Oil Co. employee, died Wednesday (Feb. 19, 2003).

GREENVILLE -- John H. Ennen, 81, Keyesport, brother of Elvera Hediger of Greenville, died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003).

Flenner

ALTON -- Nellie F. Flenner, 87, Alton, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003).

Lietz

TUSCOLA -- Louis F. Lietz, 58, of Springfield, formerly of Tuscola, died 10:41 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) in his home.

Private family visitation and services will be in Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, with the Rev. Michael Ruhling officiating. Burial will be in Tuscola Cemetery. Memorials: Tuscola Community Foundation or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Lietz was born Jan. 24, 1945, in Champaign, the son of Albert H. and Thelma M. Doehring Lietz. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a 1963 graduate of Tuscola High School. He graduated from St. John's School of Respiratory Therapy, Springfield.

Surviving are his father of Tuscola; son, Ehren Lietz of Iceland; daughter, Jennifer Allen of LaGrange Park; brother, David L. Lietz of Tuscola; sister, Carolyn M. Hilligoss of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his mother and brothers, Wayne C. Lietz and Roger A. Lietz.

McConnell

LINCOLN -- Violet Fay Margaret McConnell, 87, Lincoln, homemaker, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003).
