Abel

DECATUR -- Maurine Abel, 89, of Decatur passed away 10:05 a.m. Monday (March 10, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services of farewell and tribute will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter's African Methodist Episcopal Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: St. Peter's African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Maurine was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Shawneetown, the daughter of James Marshall and Minnie Spottsville Abel. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's African Methodist Church and the Daughters of Allen. She enjoyed her grandchildren, bridge club and shared her enthusiasm and cooking abilities within the church.

She leaves not to mourn, but to cherish fond memories, her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Abel of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Kim of Chicago; Larry Marshall of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Lula Freeman; Clara Carter; Alma and husband Alan Hart; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Maurine went to join her daughter, Pat Smith; parents; four brothers; two sisters.

Maurine freely gave her best to her God and to the church. As her loved ones, we will cherish many precious memories of Maurine's life with us.

Anderson

DECATUR -- Jack Anderson, 53, of Rock Island, died Monday (March 10, 2003) in his home.

There will be private memorial services for family members. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Orr's Mortuary, Davenport, Iowa.

Jack was born Sept. 24, 1949, in Decatur. He married Michaela Demps in 1970.

Surviving are his sons, Jack Anderson Jr. and wife Regina of St. Louis, Mo.; Jason and Josh Anderson, both of Rock Island; sister, Deborah Hodge of Springfield; three grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Claire Anderson and grandparents, Thomas and Marie Waggoner.

Beyers

DECATUR -- Anna F. Beyers, 96, of Decatur died Monday (March 10, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick Catholic Church of Decatur, with the Rev. Donald Wolford celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. Arrangements are by J.J. Moran and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials: St. John's Hospice or St. Mary's Hospital.

Anna was born Dec. 3, 1906, in Christian County, the daughter of Patrick and Molly Keating Fogerty. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Decatur. She married Raymond Beyers in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1987.

Surviving are her stepdaughters, June Stone (Bernard) and Ruth Mickler (Albert); grandchildren, Dan Beyers (Valeria), Steve Beyers (Carolyn), Chris Beyers (Michelle), Robert Beyers (Karen), Carol Glover, Jeannie Hackney, Mary Ellen Ashley, Thomas Wenskunas (Shirley), Nancy Oakes, Patricia Parkin (John), Mike Werve, Larry Werve, Ron Werve, Linda Sharp; good friend, Art and family of Decatur; several other grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ronnie Beyers; stepdaughter, Frances Jean Wenskunas; two sisters.

Linn

DECATUR -- Robert E. "Bob" Linn, 88, Decatur, died Tuesday (March 11, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes.

Carr

DECATUR -- Robert E. Carr, 74, of Decatur passed away 8:05 p.m. Tuesday (March 11, 2003) in his home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials: American Legion Scholarship Fund.

Bob was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Decatur, the son of Leslie E. and Helen R. Meyers Carr. He had been a supervisor of purchasing and retired as a buyer for Caterpillar Inc. after more than 31 years of service. He served his country in the Army and then in the Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and was an avid golfer. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, who will dearly miss him. He married Ann Leeds on Jan. 12, 1957, in Hernando, Miss.

Surviving are his sons, Scott E. Carr of Decatur; Gregory R. Carr of Springfield; daughter, Lisa Kiessel and husband Al of Lakewood; brother, Leslie "Gene" Carr of Decatur; grandchildren, Megan, Graham, Matthew, Amber and Hannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Moore

DECATUR -- E. Leon Moore, 87, husband of the late Dorothea V. McNeal Moore, of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Durham, N.C., passed away Sunday (March 9, 2003).

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Fairlawn Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. No visitation. Arrangements are by Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Mr. Moore was born May 8, 1915. He was an agriculturist who served his country in the Navy during World War II. He married Dorothea McNeal Moore (formerly of Macon County). She preceded him in death Dec. 2, 1996.

Surviving are his son, Sam Moore of Madison, Wis.; daughter, Martha May Moore of Little Rock; son-in-law, Terry O'Brian of Little Rock; brothers and sisters, Opal Tuten, Jeanette Waldron, Edgar Moore and Glen Moore of Blackshear, Ga., and Waycross, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Piekutowski

DECATUR -- Pauline G. Piekutowski, 90, Decatur, died Sunday (March 9, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North. Burial: Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials: St. Teresa Building Fund.

Cheviron

DECATUR -- Rose Mary Cheviron, 88, of Decatur died 1:57 p.m. Wednesday (March 12, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Thomas Catholic Church, with visitation 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Catholic Charities or Make a Wish Foundation.

Mrs. Cheviron was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Decatur, the daughter of Benjamin and Philomenia Curci Marchisello. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, CD of A and Sons of Italy. She was in the first graduating class of St. Teresa High School in 1933. She married Louis A. Cheviron on Dec. 31, 1936, in Decatur. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1978.

Surviving are her children, Rita Willems of Huntington, Ind.; Lois Wildman and husband Jim of Bement; Michele Lamb and husband Richard of Dalton City; Mark Cheviron and wife Cindy of Decatur; Diane Catney and husband Craig of Zionsville, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Herman Marchisello of Venice, Fla.; Helen DePalma of Falls Church, Va.; Betty Schlarb of Lexington, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Phyllis Somers; great-granddaughters, Taylor Michelle Beck and Sarah Rose Beck; sister, Mary; brothers, Albert, Tony and Joe.

Drew

DECATUR -- Richard Lee Drew, 73, of Decatur died 6 a.m. Wednesday (March 12, 2003) in his residence.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: American Cancer Association.

Mr. Drew was born May 16, 1929, in Decatur, the son of Frank and Bertha Collins Drew. He was a fireman with he Decatur Fire Department. He was a World War II Navy veteran and Korean Conflict Air Force veteran. He married Barbara Manning on May 3, 1957.

Surviving are his son, Richard J. Drew of Oakley; sisters, Emigene Drew Kennedy of Decatur; Gladys Drew Brelsfoard of Decatur; Barbara Drew Bailey of Morton; Patricia Drew McFarland of Springfield, Mo.; Emily Drew Holmberg of Decatur; brother, Donald Drew of Texas; grandchildren, Ashley, Shelby and Tiffany Drew, all of Oakley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Drew; three brothers; two sisters.

The family would like to thank the second floor nursing staff of St. Mary's Hospital and St. John's Hospice for their compassionate care.

Turner

DECATUR -- Donnell Turner, 40, of Decatur passed this life Monday (March 10, 2003) in his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Walker Funeral Service and Chapel, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Donnell was born May 22, 1962, in Brownsville, Tenn., the son of Frank and Bert Bond Turner.

Surviving are his brothers, Frank and Jasper Turner, both of Brownsville; Lessie Lee Turner and James Turner, both of Decatur; Lynwood Turner of Wisconsin; sisters, Elizabeth Ricks of Decatur; Wauline, Dorise and Edith Turner and Lula Gill, all of Brownsville; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
