CASEY -- Murlie Francis "Speedy" Wells, 71, Casey, house painter, died Monday (March 31, 2003).

No services. Arrangements by: Markwell Funeral Home, Casey.

Crittendon

DECATUR -- Nettie Lee Crittendon, 88, Culver City, Calif., formerly of Decatur, died March 21, 2003.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, St. Peter's AME Church. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Walker Funeral Service & Chapel, with 7 p.m. Order of the Eastern Star rites. Burial: Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown.

Dees

DECATUR -- Jay J. Dees, 82, of Decatur died Thursday (April 3, 2003) in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service in First Presbyterian Church, Decatur. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the church. Arrangements are by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Millikin University or First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Dees was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Christopher, the son of Alva and Myrtie Dees. He graduated from Christopher Community High School in 1938 and Millikin University with the Class of 1950. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific and European theaters, worked as a salesman in the Decatur and Central Illinois area and retired from PC Ltd. in 1985. He married Merrill Cameron on April 13, 1949, in Decatur.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years; son, Brian Dees and wife Marilyn, Springfield; daughters, Karen Meyer and husband Randy, Woodstock; Kay Mason and husband Bruce, Latham; grandchildren, Carrie and Scott Meyer, Kyle and Eric Mason, and Cameron and Connor Dees.

Fonbuena

DECATUR -- Abie S. Fonbuena, 97, Decatur, died Friday (April 4, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home.

Francis

DECATUR -- Merle Cecilia Francis, 90, Decatur, died Thursday (April 3, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Kiel

OREANA -- William Brandon Kiel, 30, Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Oreana, passed away 1:30 p.m. March 27, 2003, in Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.

Services were Monday in the Deseret Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bakersfield. Memorials may be made to an educational fund for the five Kiel children, established at Wells Fargo Bank, Bakersfield, Calif. Kern River Family Mortuary, Bakersfield, is in charge of arrangements.

Brandon was born June 24, 1972, in Charleston, S.C. He grew up in Oreana. At 19 years old, Brandon was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sent to California. After his mission, he returned to California, where he met his wife, Michelle Wilmert. They were married Feb. 25, 1995, while attending school in Idaho.

Brandon moved to Bakersfield in 1995 and resided there since that time. He most recently had been a deputy with the Kern County Sheriff's Department.

Surviving are his wife; children, Harrison (7), Madison (6), Jamison (4), McKinliegh (2), and Mason (1) of Bakersfield; a sister, Michel Applegate of Kearns, Utah; parents, Mike and Verda Kiel of Red Wing, Minn.; and grandmother, Betty Kiel of Murphysboro.

We love and miss you, Brandon.

Shelton

DECATUR -- Mary M. Shelton, 78, Decatur, died Wednesday (April 2, 2003).

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Salem Cemetery. Visitation was Friday. Arrangements are by J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Lucas

DECATUR -- Ruth Elizabeth Nalefski Lucas, 86, of Decatur died Thursday (April 3, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m., Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund.

Ruth was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Decatur, the daughter of Fred and Callie Ray Nalefski. Ruth was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was co-owner of Lucas Furs from 1970 to 1978, before retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. Mary's Auxiliary and Holy Family Ladies Guild. She married Earl Thomas Lucas on March 23, 1940, in Decatur. He preceded her in death March 19, 1978.

Surviving are her sons, Ronald E. Lucas of Decatur; Lawrence T. Lucas and wife Sarah of Columbia, Mo.; brothers, Robert Nalefski of Decatur; Richard Nalefski of Breeze; sisters, Mrs. Frank (Mildred) Zepnick of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Tex (Betty) Williams of Fort Myers, Fla.; and Mrs. James (Doris) Mattchen of Decatur.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Linda; two brothers; and six sisters.

Musgrave

DECATUR -- Annette Musgrave, 41, Decatur, died Friday (April 4, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Walker Funeral Service & Chapel.

Black

LOOGOOTEE -- Edward W. Black Jr., 78, Loogootee, died Thursday (April 3, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Pagel Funeral Home, St. Peter. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial: German Reform Cemetery, Loogootee. Memorials: Macedonia Christian Church or American Parkinson's Disease Association, Midwest Chapter.

Busby

NOKOMIS -- Mary E. "Betty" Busby, 79, Nokomis, retired from Secretary of State's office, died Friday (April 4, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Burial: Nokomis Cemetery.

Henson

KENNEY -- Dolores "Mousie" Henson, 77, Kenney, co-owner of Silver Dollar Rodeo and Henson Stables, died Thursday (April 3, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial: Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney. Memorials: Dolores Henson Memorial Fund.

Colclasure

SULLIVAN -- Louise Colclasure, 77, of Sullivan died 7:25 p.m. Wednesday (April 2, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Camfield Cemetery, Sullivan. Visitation will be one hour before services in Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Louise was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Sullivan, the daughter of Walter and Hallie Decker Carnes. She was bookkeeper for Brown Shoe Co., a member of the Sullivan VFW Auxiliary, Sullivan Rhoda Rebekah Lodge and Mattoon Eagles Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son, Darren Colclasure of Clay City; brothers, Don Carnes and his wife Joan of Sullivan; twin brothers, John Carnes and his wife Janice of Hinckley; Paul Carnes and his wife Florine of Sugar Grove; and Richard Carnes and his wife Marla of Mattoon; sisters, Frances Nelson and her husband Bill of Boerne, Texas; Edna Seitz of Sullivan; Hazel Jenne and her husband Loren of Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

King

TAYLORVILLE -- Keith K. King, 76, Taylorville, retired from Roland Machinery, died Sunday (March 30, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton. Memorials: Taylorville High School Summer Band Camp Fund or Land of Lincoln Girl Scout Council campership program, Springfield.

Powell

NEWTON -- Nellie G. Powell, 90, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Jasper County, died Friday (April 4, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton.
