Henderson

DECATUR -- Wanita Marie Henderson, 87, of Prattville, Ala., formerly of Decatur, died peacefully Thursday (April 24, 2003) in Prattville Baptist Hospital.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. William K. Abbott officiating. A reception for family and friends will be 4 to 6 p.m. May 3, in the home of Barbara Howe. Arrangements are by Prattville Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to donor's choice in honor of Mrs. Henderson.

Surviving are her beloved spouse of 67 years, Bud Henderson of Prattville; daughter, Barbara Howe, Prattville; grandchildren, Kenneth Howe; Tim Howe; Michael Howe; Connie Willis; Carmen Meherg; Kevin Gilmore; Shane Gilmore; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Eugene Henderson; daughter, Phyllis Elaine Gilmore; grandson, Mark Gilmore; son-in-law, George Franklin Howe.

Johnson

DECATUR -- Dorothy G. Johnson, 79, of Decatur died Wednesday (April 23, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday in Linwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Lawrence Flaugher officiating. J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born March 15, 1924, in Shelby County, the daughter of James Henry and Minnie Eliza Jones Johnson.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Brian Bradshaw and Krista Bolt, both of Decatur; Kevin Bradshaw of Overland Park, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Brandi, Kari, Erin and Kacee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Carolyn Bradshaw; four brothers; one sister.

Morrison

DECATUR -- Wilbur F. "Bud" Morrison, 78, of Decatur died 7:23 a.m. Wednesday (April 23, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, with 7 p.m. prayer service. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. Memorials: Macon County Conservation District for the Rock Springs Center Pond Improvement Project or St. James Catholic Church.

Wilbur was born July 24, 1924, in Decatur, the son of Gilbert Charles and Zola Ellen Nicoson Morrison. He worked at Wabash Railroad as a fireman for 10 years and then worked for A. E. Staley Mfg. Co. as a foreman for 39 years before retiring. He joined the Navy in 1943 and served on the Battleship USS California during World War II. He was an all-state fullback for Decatur High School, a member of Staley's Foreman's Club and loved to fish and play golf. He married Marian McClintick on April 26, 1947, in St. Thomas Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years; children, Daniel "Dan" Morrison and wife Nancy of Elkhart, Ind.; Kathleen "Kathy" Smethers and husband David of Eagle, Idaho; Patrick "Pat" Morrison and wife Rachel "Ray-O" of Clarendon Hills; Michael "Mike" Morrison and fiancee Erin Hall of Bloomington; grandchildren, Douglas "Doug" Morrison; Jennifer "Jenny" Morrison; Lee and Blake Morrison, all of Elkhart; Jennifer "Jenny" and Beth Smethers of Eagle; Madeline and Joseph Morrison of Clarendon Hills; brother, Carl E. Morrison and wife Helen of Decatur; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margie J. Dill.

Elbert

DECATUR -- Kenneth M. Elbert, 67, Decatur, died Thursday (April 24, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Smith

DECATUR -- Eugene Dale Smith, 76, Decatur, Purity Baking Co. assistant plant superintendent, died Friday (April 25, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes.

Sandelin

DECATUR -- Gay Townsend Sandelin, 66, of Decatur died Thursday (April 24, 2003) in her beloved home on the Illinois tall-grass prairie.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. May 10, in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, with visitation one hour before services. The Rev. Dan Spruell, Chaplain of Decatur Memorial Hospital, will officiate. Memorials: Eleanor Roosevelt Fund, in care of American Association of University Women, 1111 Sixteenth St. N.W., Washington, D.C., 20036.

Gay was born Jan. 6, 1937, in Birmingham, Ala., Epiphany, beloved daughter of Dr. H. Laveine and Beulah Townsend. She was a graduate of University of Kentucky, majoring in home economics. Gay was a professional homemaker, past president of the Decatur branch of the AAUW and an active member of the All States Club of Decatur. She loved organic gardening, traveling and enjoyed reading. She was committed to those around her and her love of God. She married Bruce Sandelin on June 27, 1970, in Floydsburg, Ky.

Surviving are her husband of 32 years; brothers, Dr. Laveine McGill Townsend and wife Sally of Centralia, Mo.; David Leroy Townsend and wife Jan of Taylorsville, Ky.; Dr. Paul Robert Townsend and wife Peggy of Prospect, Ky.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia Ruth Townsend.

You will be a dearly missed wife and sister.

Wood

DECATUR -- Florence G. "Sissy" Wood, 89, formerly of Decatur and Green Valley, Ariz., died Feb. 27, 2003 in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Memorial services will be Saturday in St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, Green Valley, Ariz. Arrangements are by Hull's Crematory, Walnut Creek. Memorials: St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church.

Sissy was born in St. Louis, Mo. and educated at the University of Missouri. While at Missouri, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Following graduation, she was an elementary school teacher. She and her late husband, Robert J. Wood, lived in Decatur until they moved to Green Valley in the mid 1980's.

Surviving are her daughter, Carroll Wood Stewart of Carlsbad, Calif.; sons, Robert E. Wood of Walnut Creek; William M. Wood III of Sun River, Ore.; brother, Len Guitar of Columbia, Mo.; sister-in-law, Emily Hubble of Bloomington; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Adams

CLINTON -- Dale M. Adams, 89, Clinton, died Friday (April 25, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Bates

OLNEY -- William A. "Bill" Bates, 76, Olney, died Thursday (April 24, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with 11 a.m. Masonic rites. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Crest Haven Cemetery, Claremont, with military rites. Memorials: Immanuel United Methodist Church, Olney.

Crow

PANA -- Marilyn S. Crow, 51, of Chicago died April 19, 2003, in a Chicago hospital.

Final rites and visitation were at an earlier date. Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery. Malec and Sons Funeral Home, Chicago, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Cancer Society.

Marilyn graduated from Pana High School in 1969.

Surviving are her husband, David L. Crow; sons, Kevin and wife Cindy of Lexington, S.C.; Jason and wife Kathy of Chicago; brother, William "Bill" Baillie of Boston, Mass.; nieces, Kaitlin Quinn Baillie of Boston; Shawn Abar of El Paso, Texas; mother, Elda Marie Baillie of Pana.

Atwell

BOURBON -- Thomas E. Atwell, 67, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of Bourbon, died Thursday (April 24, 2003) in his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, with the Rev. Wayne Arganbright officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour before services. Burial will be in Bourbon Cemetery. Memorials: Bourbon Baptist Church, Bourbon, Hospice of Central Ohio or donor's choice.

Mr. Atwell was born March 23, 1936, in Bourbon, the son of John A. and Nancy C. Harrington Atwell. Mr. Atwell was retired from Owens Corning, where he worked as a technical writer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newark and Bourbon Baptist Church. He was a 1954 graduate of Tuscola High School and a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Epsilon fraternity. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer, but most importantly, he cherished his time with his family and many close friends. He married Sandra F. Stroup on Jan. 10, 1959. She preceded him in death Jan. 4, 1998.

Surviving are his sons, Brian Atwell and wife Eileen of Newark; Kevin Atwell and wife Michelle of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jeffrey Atwell and wife Tracy of Bristow, Va.; daughter, Joan Boroff and husband Bob of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, David Atwell; Abigail Atwell; Megan Atwell; Hunter Boroff; Morgan Atwell; Tyler Boroff; Christopher Atwell; Hallie Atwell; Aleksander Atwell; mother-in-law, Nadine Clark of DuQuoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. John E. Atwell.

Chancellor

ARTHUR -- John Robert Chancellor, 43, of Arthur died 8:19 a.m. Friday (April 25, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Arthur Cemetery, with flag presentation by the Arthur VFW and American Legion Post. The Rev. Michael Mayfield will officiate. There will be no visitation. Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Arthur EMT Association or College Fund for his grandson, Marcus.

John was born Jan. 5, 1960, in Decatur, the son of John L. and Joe Ellen Ghere Chancellor. John graduated from Arthur High School in 1978. He was named Most Valuable Player for the 1977 Arthur Football Team, played in the East-West Shrine football game in 1978 and was a Chicago all-state selectee. He was a member of the Eastern Illinois University football team that won the National Championship. He worked at R. R. Donnelley & Sons Printing Co. in Mattoon. He was a member of Arthur United Methodist Church. He served in the Army from 1981 to 1984. He married Valerie Bradford on June 19, 1981, in Arthur.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Corrine, Gabrielle and Allison Chancellor, all of Arthur; grandson, Marcus Chancellor; brother, Bruce Chancellor of Bourbon; sisters, Mrs. Terry (Vickie) Clark, Mrs. Bill (Valerie) Coleman and Mrs. Steve (Mar cia) Cornwell, all of Arthur; Cheryl Chancellor of Champaign.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
