A funeral Mass for Margaret Mary Faber, 86, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Gall Church, 100 Shannon St., Elburn. The Rev. Terence Stanton, O. S. B., will officiate.
Born Dec. 8, 1912, on her family's farm in Burlington Township, she passed away peacefully as she slept, Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at her home. Interment will follow Mass, in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Virgil.
Their farmhouse having been destroyed by fire the previous year, Miss Faber was actually born in the corn crib that had become the family home that first winter. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul Schools and grew up in the Virgil/Burlington area. She was just 13 and the eldest girl of nine children when her mother died. Her last words to her mother, `Don't worry, Mom. I'll take care of everyone,' was a promise she kept to three generations. Margaret never married and never relinquished the title of sister and aunt, but she held the role of `mom' and `grandma' in every heart. She took care of her father until his passing in 1979 and through all the intervening years, managed to feed the Faber throng every holiday (and many times in between). She also took her talent of `cooking for crowds' to Kaneland Schools, where she served many a meal for a number of years as well.
A natural at `tough love,' Margaret had the strength to draw lines and set limits as she saw them, but her love was larger than life. Through all the trials and triumphs of her days, she found her sustaining strength in the daily practice of her faith. She was formerly a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Virgil, presently a member of St. Gall Church in Elburn, and also active in the Altar and Rosary Society, where she gave many hours to others.
She is survived by five siblings, Joe (Anne) Faber of Maple Park, Therese Herrmann of Sycamore, Anthony `Tony' (Mary) Faber of Virgil, Lawrence `Tuffy' (Pauline) Faber of Maple Park, and Mary Ann Johnson of Elburn; 35 nieces and nephews and their families; and a community of good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Henry `Hank' Faber, Rose Bertram and Madeline Sibley.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with rosary at 4 p.m., at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass Thursday, at the church.
For information, (630) 365-6414.

Margaret C. George, 3, of Barrington, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. Arrangements are pending with Stirlen-Pieper & Davenport Funeral Home, (847) 381-3411.
