Robert A. Lindstrand, age 70 of East Moline died January 15, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd, 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Robert was born on June 11, 1933 in East Moline, the son of Adolph and Freda Holst Lindstrand. Robert was a clerk at the Post Office retiring in 1988. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Moline. He enjoyed his Wisconsin fishing trips, stamp collecting and traveling. Survivors: Nephews :, Robert (Lisa) Brathall, Port Byron Lennie Brathall, Moline, Richard Brathall, Silvis Niece:, Laurie (Wayne) Speer, Geneseo Several grand nieces and nephews and one great-grand niece Special friends: Arlene Canning, Silvis Jeff Streeter, Port Byron He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marjorie Brathall

Albert Vercauteren, 85 of Milan died January 15, 2004 at his home. A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m.Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at National Cemetery, Rock Island. military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #246. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the family. Albert was born January 12, 1919 in Belgium to Taefield and Cordula Duetshaver Vercauteren. He married Mary Jane Yeoward on June 1, 1946 at Sacret Heart Catholic Church, Moline. She preceded him in death in June of 1993. Albert was a security guard for 25 years for the Rock Island Arsenal. He retired in 1978. Albert was a WII Army veteran serving in the South Pacific. SURVIVORS: Daughter: Bonnie (Ron) Hoover, Milan Son, Larry (Margo) Vercauteren, Rock Island 5 grandchildren 1 great grandchild, Sister: Mary Vercauteren, Moline, He was preceded in death by sister Rachel Vercauteren

Hazel Jean McMeekin, 79, of Davenport passed away Thursday evening January 15, at Fejervary Nursing Center, Davenport where she had resided since May of 2003. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Moline. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. is incharge of arrangements. Hazel was born March 16, 1924 in Rugby, ND to Kenneth and Agnes Tweet Jennings. She graduated from Rugby High School in 1941. At the beginning of WWII, Jean moved to the Quad Cities and worked in the medical records department of the Rock Island Arsenal. On June 18, 1943, Jean married James McMeekin in Sully, IA. He preceded her in death in 1977. Following the war, the couple owned and operated a printing company. In 1956 they moved to Wheatland, IA where they published a weekly newspaper. In 1968, Jean became a travel agent with DePorter-Butterworth Tours, Moline. In 1977 she became a partner in an upholstery shop, where she worked until her retirement. Jean was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Moline. She will be remembered as a kind and happy person, always positive and appreciative of all she had. SURVIVORS: Daughter & Son-in-law Sandra & David Nieuwsma, Sigourney, IA Son & Daughter-in-law James & Mary McMeekin, Davenport Five grandsons, Saul McMeekin Anthony, Aaron, Andrew & Isaiah Nieuwsma Three Sisters, Dorothy Busch, Phoenix, AZ Mildred Papasergia Bakersfield, CA Arlene Enns Bakersfield, CA Brother, Errol Jennings, Norfolk, VA And many nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Jennings.

Kenneth F. Moody, 83, of Orion died Thursday January 15, 2004. Services will be 11:00 am Monday January 19, 2004 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover, IL. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Andover Cemetery, Andover. Memorials may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church or Oak Glen Nursing Home Auxiliary. Kenneth was born on November 29, 1920 in Henry County, IL to Frank and Rachel Nelson Moody. He married Mary Jane Oswald on February 4, 1945 in Rock Island County. Kenneth was employed at International Harvester and also farmed at the same time. After retiring from International Harvester in 1982, Kenneth continued to farm and also sold FASCO Feed in Mendota, IL. Kenneth was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, a former church council and also a former member of the church building committee. He was a member of the Thor Lodge #9 I.O.V. He was a die hard cubs fan and loved going to the Cubs spring training camp in Mesa, AZ. He was a NASCAR fan and also a fan of both the Fighting Illini and the Chicago Bears., SURVIVORS: Wife Daughter: Karen (Brian) Fouts Gengler, East Moline Son, Larry (Ruth) Moody, Colona, Grandchildren: Rachel (Larryn) Feliciano Chandler, AZ Matthew Moody, Chicago, IL Travis (Jennifer) Fouts, East Moline Jessica Fouts, East Moline Great Grandchild Delaney Fouts, East Moline Brother, Glenn (JoAnne) Moody DeKalb, IL He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edwin Gotheridge, age 83 of Bettendorf, died January 14, 2004 at Genesis West, Davenport. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday January 19, 2004 at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Rock Island. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Garden, East Moline military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #430 of Durant IA. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd, 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church. Edwin was born on April 2, 1920 in Pekin, IL the son of Samuel and Nellie Hammer Gotheridge. He married Arlene Fenton on October 4, 1941 in Unionville, MO. Edwin was an owner-operator truck driver and later worked for Miller Container, retiring in 1982. He was a dealer trade driver for Lujack’s for 12 years, retiring in 1994. Edwin was a WWII era Army veteran and a member of the Durant American Legion Post #430. He was also a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Rock Island. He and his wife used to take trips with the Hawkeye Ramblers motorcyle Club. He loved horses, Harley Davidson motorcycles and his grandchildren. Survivors: Wife, Bettendorf 2 Sons: Richard (Susan) , South Carolina Steven, Wisconsin Dells, WI 1 Daughter Sharon Riggs, East Moline 6 grandchildren 9 great-grandchildren expecting a great-great-grandchild in March He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and l brother,

Dorothy Louise Mellinger, 90 of Rock Island died January 12, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to Bethel Wesley Methodist Church, Moline, Rock Island Historical Society, Christian Friendliness or Christian Family Care Center. Dorothy Swenson was born November 9, 1913 in Carthage, IL to Herman W. and Hallie Irwin Swenson. She married Murphy Frank Mellinger on April 17, 1937 in Geneseo, IL. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1969. Dorothy was a self employed designer, professional dress maker and seamstress. Dorothy was a member of Bethel Wesley Methodist Church, Moline where she was past president of the woman’s society and couples club, and activity director of the fellowship group. She was also past president of Tri-City Cinema & Video Club, Moline Women’s Club, Rock Island Republican Women, Mens-Gals Singles Dance Club and Kings Daughters. She was past president and volunteer of Christian Friendliness Care Center. She was a 27 year member and Auxilary Board Curator of the Rock Island County Historical Society, and a 60 year member of the Elks Club. On her 90th birthday, she received the key to the city of Rock Island. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church in Sherrard. Burial will be in the Preemption Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. in Orion. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Lutheran Church of Sherrard. Bessie Krebs was born April 8, 1908 in Sherrard, IL., the daughter of William and Nora Jones Garrett Krebs. She married Richard Woodrow Hickman on May 28, 1938 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2002. Bessie worked on the assembly line at the former Servus Rubber Company in Rock Island for 13 years. She also worked as a telephone operator in the Central Office at the former Sherrard Phone Company and had previously been employed as a clerk in the grocery store in Sherrard. Bessie was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Sherrard. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing golf. Bessie was very devoted to her family, especially being very proud of her grandsons. SURVIVORS: Son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey (Betty) Hickman Sherrard 2 Grandsons Daniel Hickman Orlando, FL. John Hickman Charlotte, NC. Sister Katie Maier, Moline, Brother and sister-in-law Jack and Evelyn Krebs Milan Sister-in-law Bonnie Krebs Rock Island Number of nieces and nephews. She married Sylvester Krulik in 1946 at Watertown Baptist Church. She later married Roy “Jack” Holman on July 31, 1976 in Moline. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1988. Minnie retired as branch manager for the former Uptown Bank in Moline. Minnie was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline. She was active with the church’s babysitting program. She was a former member of the Family Campers on Wheels. She was also a member of the Bunco Club and was an active bingo player. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1962. Frances was a director of Roc-Mer Council of Girl Scout, retiring in the mid 1950’s. She was an active camper and outdoors woman. Frances was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Rock Island. She was an Army veteran serving in WWII in the Women’s Army Corps from August 4, 1943-October 23, 1945.
